For Lisa Hover and her husband Andy, life on the Hampshire Dorset border with their family of four children seemed idyllic. Even when a routine sight test on their daughter Annabelle as she started Primary school picked up an abnormality it all seemed manageable. But the abnormality turned out to be macular degeneration and early sight loss, which itself masked a more severe and life shortening genetic condition. The diagnosis of Batten disease changed everything. And yet, with no cure available, and physical and mental decline forecast, Annabelle lead the family in demanding everything from her limited life span. That included setting up a charity, Batten fighters forever or BFF ( battenfightersforever.com ), continuing her Girl Guiding and going skiing. Lisa talks to Sian about the challenges, the joys and the sadness - and particularly about Annabelle's desire to have a White Christmas will all the family.Producer; Tom Alban

It goes without saying that in financial services, trust is a vital commodity. The potential dividends of trust and ethical conduct are significant. Employees are far more likely to be engaged and live your organization's values, be strongly committed to their job and the customers they serve. While customers are far more likely to advocate on your behalf, stay loyal, and crucially buy your products. In this interesting webinar, we will be talking to David Coe, CEO of the Fairbanking Foundation, whose presentation will explain the Fairbanking Mark, how it works, and why financial services companies should keep trust and ethics central to their culture. David will be joined by Matt Gantley, CEO of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), which as the UK's government-appointed National Accreditation Body oversees and accredits the Fairbanking Mark scheme. Speaker: David Coe is Chief Executive Officer of the Fairbanking Foundation. He leads the charity's strategy to increase the coverage of its Fairbanking Marks scheme and the range and impact of its growing advisory and research activities. Previously David was Interim CEO of WAGGGS, the global movement for Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. Before that David was Executive Director of Abbeyfield International (independent living and care homes provider), Director General of the International Psychoanalytical Association, and Executive Director of Orbis (blindness prevention organisation). Here he led the organisational transition from ‘Flying Eye Hospital' to land-based blindness prevention programmes. He has also worked extensively as a Consultant and more recently, as an Executive Coach working with many charities and for-profit organisations on major change. He was also Chief Executive of the Soil Association, the organic food certifying and campaigning organisation. Matt Gantley is the Chief Executive of UKAS, the UK's Accreditation Body and major contributor to the national quality infrastructure. Accreditation by UKAS means that conformity assessment (testing and calibration laboratories, inspection and certification bodies) have been assessed against internationally recognised standards to demonstrate their competence, impartiality and performance capability. Matt has over 20 years' experience in the conformity assessment and prior to joining UKAS he was the Managing Director of NQA Certification and held senior Directorship positions in certification, training and consulting enterprises. His key achievements include strategic and commercial development alongside international management in emerging markets. Matt is passionate about corporate and business strategy and served as a visiting MBA lecturer at Manchester Business School. Matt has also fulfilled Non-Exec roles for Elmhurst (EPBD Training/Certification), was a Board Director of SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) and was the Chairman of the Association of British Certification Bodies. Hello. I’m Anna, an adventurer, speaker and mischief-maker. I get my kicks from exploring the world through long human-powered journeys. On a mission to find the limit of my own potential, I’m hoping to help you unlock yours too. Let’s dance. . WEM speaks to a fellow maverick adventurer Anna McNuff . Anna, a British born adventurer, motivational speaker, influencer and author. She was recently named by Condé Nast Traveller as one of the 50 most influential travellers of our time, and by the Guardian as one of the top modern female adventurers . I am also proud to be the UK Ambassador for Girl Guiding, and the co-founder of Adventure Queens; the UK’s fastest-growing women’s adventure community. She's best known for her recent attempt to run the distance of 100 marathons through Great Britain, in my bare feet.  Anna gets her kicks by travelling the world on long, human-powered journeys, and in sharing those journeys with others. When not running up mountains or sleeping in the wild, she encourages others to grab on to life (non-scientific term), and speak and write about the importance of adopting a growth mindset (scientific term), in everything we do. She believes that there’s more strength and magic in each of us than we will ever know – adventure is her personal way of unlocking that.  https://www.annamcnuff.com

The daughter of two Olympian’s she grew up in a family where the pursuit of physical and mental excellence was encouraged. Seeing the respect and admiration that her parents received led her to me harbouring ambitions from an early age to be an Olympian myself. As a middle sibling sandwiched between two brothers, she could often be found down the local BMX track, up to her armpits in mud or playing football in the local boys’ team. Growing up, she simply did what the boys did because it’s all I knew. By aged 16 she had moved on from football, and taken up the sport of rowing, where she went on to represent Great Britain. During her time in the Great Britain squad, she became a World Champion at the University Games in 2006, and won a Bronze medal at the 2007 European Championships.Dogged by injury in her twenties, she made the difficult decision to retire from the sport and to let go of my Olympic dream. She then embarked on a new life as an adventurer – darting around the world on the hunt for new and exciting endurance challenges. She talks to Annie and Louise about her passion for cycling and adventures such as cycling the Andes. Anna McNuff is an adventurer, speaker, author and mischief maker. Named by The Guardian as one of the top female adventurers of our time, Condé Nast Traveller included her in a list of the 50 most influential travellers in the world. She is also the UK ambassador for Girl Guiding.   Anna’s major journeys include cycling a beautiful pink bicycle through each and every state of the USA, running the length of New Zealand, and exploring the peaks and passes of The Andes mountains – a journey in which she ascended the equivalent to eleven times the height of Everest on a bicycle.   In the summer of 2019, she set off on her most ambitious adventure yet – a 2,300+ mile (90 marathon) run through Britain… in her bare feet. Starting in the Shetland Islands and ending five months later in London, she weaved her way along rugged coastlines, through small villages, across moors, along beaches, over farmland and even pitter pattered down the odd picturesque A-road too. All the way along, she gave talks to the young women of Britain about taking on challenges of their own.   Much closer to home, Anna has also spent a month cycling across Europe directed entirely by social media, run the length of Hadrian’s wall dressed as a Roman Soldier, and the length of the Jurassic Coast, dressed as a dinosaur. As you do.   She can often be found writing in a local café in her home city of Gloucester, and will never turn down a slice of lemon meringue pie.   Show notes What Anna enjoys doing Why she loves doing big challenges The Barefoot Britain Challenge 2019 How 50 barefoot marathons turned into 100… Building awareness for the Girl Guiding Preparing her feet for the run Running the London Marathon April 2019 - 26.2 miles  Dealing with other people’s opinions about you Why you know what you are capable off Asking for help… Starting the challenge in the Shetland Islands Having a kit bag called “Barry Buttercup” Dealing with the logistics and how challenging it was Making it 1000 miles….
