Wayne Cassidy's Tajik Mountain Traverse is an awesome sounding race that takes place in the Mountains of Tajikistan. It offers runners a unique mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. The race is designed to challenge endurance athletes and immerse them in the culture of the Tajik people."The Tajik people are just some of the warmest, most hospitable people," Wayne shares. "Strangers will be inviting you to come in for tea. That's just an amazing experience to have." The event takes runners through an environment steeped in history, from the ancient Silk Road to the footsteps of explorers like Alexander the Great and Marco Polo. The nine-day format is a blend of adventure and cultural exploration, with participants dealing with high altitude mountain passes and enjoying stunning turquoise lakes. Wayne describes it as a beautiful and majestic place. It's clear that the location is one he loves and a key feature that sets this race apart.Wayne hopes to see growing participation in the future, with the aim of including more and more athletes from around the world, all drawn to this hidden gem in Central Asia. The race already garners interest from international runners, with the goal of creating a community that shares both the passion for endurance sports and an appreciation for the unique cultural heritage of Tajikistan. It was awesome to have Wayne on and learn more about this place and his race! Today Chantelle Erickson is an ultra trail runner and, as she says, a multipreneur, in addition to being a wife and the mother of two children. Erickson runs her business Be Well Chantelle, and under the umbrella of that business, she has many offerings. One of them is Baby Mama, where she offers pre- and postnatal fitness services; she is a running coach.  Additionally, Erickson is a financial advisor focused on helping women with financial literacy. She is also a freelance writer, and one of her primary outlets is Canadian Running Magazine. And, Erickson is a recurring co-host on the Community Trail Running podcast, with Adam Lee.  So today, Erickson is thriving in many ways, but things for her were definitely not always like this. A little background here, Erickson was raised by her grandmother and her mom who had Erickson just as she was finishing high school. Erickson did not connect with her father until much later in life, and she talks about that in her story.  Over the course of her life, Erickson has experienced many traumas and her upbringing and early adulthood were chaotic. And then running came into her life and it provided a steady foundation for many positive changes.  What Erickson discovered through her running journey and how it all unfolded is what her story is all about.  How to Keep Up with Chantelle Erickson Instagram: @runningmama85 Website: bewellchantelle.com Mentioned in This Episode Community Trail Running podcast: communitytrailrunning.substack.com/podcast Cherie Louise Turner on the Community Trail Running podcast: communitytrailrunning.substack.com/p/ep-119-the-womens-running-podcast Women's Running Stories Newsletter: womensrunningstories.substack.com Support Our Supporters Lagoon Pillows: lagoonsleep.com/WRS15 Use the discount code WRS15 for 15% off your first order YMR Track Club: ymrtrackclub.com Use the discount code WRS20 for 20% off your purchase To support WRS, please rate and review the show iTunes/Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/womens-running-stories/id1495427631 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4F8Hr2RysbV4fdwNhiMAXc?si=1c5e18155b4b44fa Music Credits Cormac O'Regan, of Playtoh Coma-Media, via Pixabay RomanBelov, via Pixabay SergePavkinMusic, via Pixabay penguinmusic, via Pixabay Lidérc Bell, via Pixabay Ways to Connect and Engage with Women's Running Stories Over 50, Sub 20, 5k Project Instagram: @over50sub20_5k_project WRS Instagram: @womensrunningstories Facebook: facebook.com/WomensRunningStories Website: womensrunningstories.com Email host Cherie: clouiseturner@gmail.com Women's Running Stories is a proud member of the Evergreen network: https://evergreenpodcasts.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. “I knew that I was going to die and that was made very clear to me by people in the hospital and by a doctor that I had seen. And I knew I had very limited time. I was having a lot of seizures. Whenever alcohol got out of my system, I would have a seizure. So I was having to drink, even though I didn't want to.”Keeley Milne has faced difficult challenges in life. She's persevered through dark times to lead the life she does today. She's incredibly grateful for the support she's had to get there and through that support she's lived a sober life for the last 11 + years. She recognizes that everyone's journey is different, but that everyone deserves another chance.“I guess that is, it's never ever too late and it's always worth it. There are people that care and will help even if you don't know them. It doesn't have to be AA, there's people out there, there's 24 hour hotlines that people will get you through until you can see somebody else. There are, there, there are people out there who care. And It's really never too late, no matter how many bridges you burn, no matter what you've done.”Keeley has done nothing but fall more in love with the sport of running during the last 11 years and is looking to attempt a 200 miler in Alberta. She's always enjoyed challenging herself which is why she's also working towards becoming a librarian, a childhood dream she's getting closer to accomplishing. She's also appreciated being an active mom to her son and having family in her life. All of it has given Keeley a unique perspective for her writing at Canadian Running Magazine. Chantelle and I were really grateful to have her on and share so openly about her struggles and triumphs. Last weekend, she added another record to that list, running the 10,000m in 30:00.86 as she prepares for her marathon debut in London next month. But despite her impressive athletic resume, Eilish frequently finds herself fending off social media trolls who are more focused on her appearance than her results. Coached by her mom, Olympic medalist Liz McColgan, Eilish knows the impact of strong female role models. From a young age, running was a way for David to enjoy nature and explore the outdoors. As a teen he was able to shift that passion to track and field but managed to keep it fun while racing competitively. Fast forward and he's now taking on ultra distances, nurturing his light heartedness towards the sport with challenges, and generating funds for charities in need.
