What does choosing joy really mean when you’re living through pain, pressure, or exhaustion? In this deeply personal solo episode, Choosing Joy host Deborah Joy Winans Williams sits down—not as an actress or celebrity, but as herself—to answer your questions, share her heart, and reflect on what joy looks like when it’s uncomfortable, spiritual, and hard-won. Deborah opens up about motherhood, mental health, faith, grief, self-worth, and how she learned (and is still learning) to choose joy daily—not just on stage, but in real life. From the lessons of her Winans family legacy to her girls' trip epiphany with Merle Dandridge to the quiet prayers that sustain her, this episode is a soulful, grounding invitation to go deeper. Whether you’re a woman of faith, an artist in progress, a mother in motion, or just someone trying to pour from a not-so-full cup—Deborah’s raw honesty and wisdom remind us that joy isn’t a mood... it’s a decision. There's so much to learn from the women of the Old Testament. One such character in 2 Chronicles is Huldah. Today's episode is a quick look into the heart of a woman who was a support to the eight year-old King Josiah. Huldah was a trusted porphetess during Josiah's spiritual renewal. She fearlessly conveyed God's messages, helping bring reform and revival to the land. May we all be bold be like Huldah. www.sueduffield.com
A recent study by the Pew Research Center shared statistics that Latter-day Saint women are top of the charts when it comes to experiencing “a deep sense of spiritual peace and well-being on a weekly basis.” We also report the “highest rate of being very happy.” To someone only paying attention to what media and popular culture might say, these statistics might be surprising. But we know why these numbers ring true: we live our faith daily and it really does bring us greater peace and happiness. Dr. Jenet Erickson, a fellow of the Wheatley Institute and a professor in the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University, recently dove into these findings and is here to share what she learned. The real stories of Latter-day Saint women are ones of peace, power, and strength that shine brighter than any viral trend. We are women of conviction who love and serve God and each other with all of our hearts. Send us a textGod has given every single one of us things to steward & diligently tend to that He desires for us to bear fruit in and multiply for the kingdom. And the realty is that we will ALL have to stand before Christ one day in regards to our stewardship. There, He will test the work we did with the time He gave us. The question is, will our work be worthless and burned up? Or will it have been of value and therefore stand the test of fire? That's for us to take a sobering look at today.
