There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters. Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening. In what is definitely the biggest story in the world of Batman right now, you know we had to do an episode on the new Amazon series, Batman: Caped Crusader.  Daniel is joined once again by Podcasting Director of the Pop Break, Alex Marcus, as the two sing the praises of this phenomenal addition to the Batman canon. SPOILERS ARE ON as the duo discuss all ten episodes. They dive heavily into all the reimagined villains, and both have a hot take on Harvey Dent/Two-Face.  No villain stone is left unturned.  Clayface.  Catwoman.  Penguin.  Harley Quinn.  Firebug?  All are discussed.  Daniel also criticizes one of the villains used, but then realizes he was talking about the wrong villain!  That happened.  Not only are the villains discussed, but they praise the use of all the supporting characters, including Barbara Gordon, Renee Montoya, and…Pennyworth? Hear Daniel and Alex argue about the episode where there's a ghost!  One is positive.  One is negative.  You'll have to listen to find out who's on which side!  They also discuss favorite scenes, favorite Batman moments, top episodes, and Daniel gets annoyed at a certain cameo tease at the end.  Also, months after Daniel's passionate defense and thesis about Harvey Bullock being a complex character with tons of potential in a previous podcast, Alex tries to poke the bear on Bullock's different type of role in this series...Daniel does turn the tables though when a certain Robin is conveniently left out in one particular episode…If you loved this show like most Batman fans did, this is a must listen to episode! Also…we tease a BIG rankings episode for next month!

Episode 46 - The Dark Knight - Full Review Movie PodcastThe whole world voted with their feet and The Dark Knight was the first comic book movie to hit $1 Billion, but can the three of us agree on whether this is a good movie, let alone a great one? This is the first superhero/comic movie that the Born to Watch team have tackled and we had a lot of fun doing it. Gow is away on Academy duties and our "Super Sub" Damo steps in and fills some big shoes. Universally loved by the public it may not get the free ride you would assume in this episode and one of the team has a bit to say about this "Modern Classic".The 2008 movie The Dark Knight is widely considered to be one of the greatest movies of all time, and it's easy to see why. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Heath Ledger as the Joker, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, the movie provides a thrilling ride with a psychological and moral depth rarely seen in comic book-inspired films. The story takes place eight years after Batman Begins, where Batman has been successful in cleaning up Gotham City. However, his work is soon challenged by a mysterious master criminal known as the Joker. As Batman engages in an epic battle with him while struggling to protect Harvey Dent from falling into darkness and becoming Two-Face, it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary villain. The Dark Knight excels in its complex characterizations; it presents resonant themes of justice versus chaos, corruption versus morality, and principle against pragmatism - exploring issues that are still relevant today. Elements such as well-crafted plotlines and dialogue help move the film forward but what stands out most is Nolan's expertly crafted attention to detail in portraying Gotham City - with everything from its art direction to camera angles illustrating its chaotic yet beautifully flawed nature. It's no surprise then that since its release The Dark Knight has become influential for many - inspiring other successors such as Marvel's Avengers Endgame or DC's Justice League - both of which have taken cues from Nolan's film in developing their plots. It has also had a big impact on pop culture with phrases such as “Why so serious?” or “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain” remaining iconic even ten years later due to Heath Ledger's brilliant performance as the Joker. In conclusion, there's no doubt that The Dark Knight remains timeless; it doesn't just entertain but educates too - leaving a lasting impression on viewers of all ages regardless of their generation or background yet never once compromising on quality or entertainment value throughout its runtime making it a truly unforgettable experience.

Batman 89 is based on the Tim Burton Batman movie that started it all. Publisher Description Continuing the twisted adventures of DC's Dark Knight from Tim Burton's seminal classic Batman movies, Batman '89 brings in screenwriter Sam Hamm (Batman, Batman Returns) and artist Joe Quinones (Dial H for Hero) to pull on a number of threads left dangling by the prolific director. The gothic mentality behind the world, while still rooted in a sense of realism, helped inform many of DC's global fans' first impressions on the Dark Knight's Gotham. In the new Batman '89 comic, Hamm and Quinones will help usher in the return of Selina Kyle/Catwoman and will debut a new Robin! Plus, Quinones has a vision for Harvey Dent/Two-Face that is as close to movie magic as a comic can get! SUBSCRIBE to watch more videos like this one! After complaints that Batman Returns had been too traumatizing for younger viewers, Warner Bros. set a clear mandate for the next film in their flagship franchise: lighter, brighter, and more fun. Desperate to move away from the gloomier aesthetic of Tim Burton’s first two entries, the studio turned to Joel Schumacher - a director whose pop sensibilities were more in line with pushing happy meals and action figures. Batman Forever was an absolutely massive hit at the box office in the summer of 1995, but it remains a divisive installment amongst fans. Join us as unpack its complicated legacy and also clear up some misconceptions about its development and production. Topics include: whether or not there was ever actually any version of “Tim Burton’s Batman 3", how late into pre-production Michael Keaton dropped out and what that meant for the film, the much different story Schumacher initially pitched, some insane stories of the tension behind the scenes, the mishandling of Harvey Dent/Two-Face, the challenge of bringing Robin into live-action, alternate casting choices, how we felt about this new approach to the series as kids, where it ranks for us now, and much more! FilmSpeak and Vocal Qs got an exciting opportunity to sit down with other select journalists to partake in a roundtable discussion at New York Comicon recently, with voice actors Bruce Greenwood (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Vincent Martella (Redhood/Jason Todd), Zehra Fazal (Talia) as well as Brandon Vietti, the writer, director and producer of the film. The cast also includes Gary Cole as Harvey Dent/Two Face and the incomparable John DiMaggio as the Joker. Batman: Death in the Family follows the iconic Batman crossover event written in the late 80s, following the fate of Jason Todd, the second young soldier to take up the mantle of Batman's sidekick, Robin. Trained as Batman's protégé, Jason Todd brings a relentless sense of justice as Robin, who sets his sights on bringing down the Joker. But can Batman save Robin from a fate worse than death? Tragedy, revenge and redemption await in this groundbreaking DC film! Who will live? Who will die? Who will watch over Gotham? The blu ray also includes 4 additional DC Showcase Shorts: Adam Strange, Sgt. Rock, The Phantom Stranger, and Death. We at Vocal Qs wanted to bring you this exciting BONUS episode where the voice actors share their experiences. It is important to note however, that this was a Zoom call with over 30 participants (mostly press) and where we did not have control over the audio settings, or possible interruptions throughout the interview. While there may be some audio issues at times, we did want to present the great question and answer session relatively uncut.

This is the first of two Batman-related episodes from this year's New York Comic Con. It was a particular thrill for me to attend the press event for Batman vs Two-Face at the con this year, with William Shatner in attendance. This episode includes the audio from my roundtable interviews, which includes the following: William Shatner (voice of Harvey Dent/Two-Face), Burt Ward (voice of Robin), Rick Morales (Director), James Tucker (Supervising Producer/Co-Writer), and Michael Jelenic (Producer/Co-Writer). Do listen to all of them, as each reveals a distinct piece of the conceptualization and production that went into making the film a reality. But don't miss Shatner's portion of the episode, where we get surprisingly deep about recent national events.

"Batman Vs. Two-Face" Released October 10, 2017 How is it possible to top the success of last year's The Return of the Caped Crusaders? You add William Shatner to the mix!  Shatner takes on the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face in this new feature length film and just as with the previous film, the producers bring us an interesting take on the classic villain.  In this episode, we discuss Adam West's final performance, just how couched in the first season this film is, and our thoughts on the possibility of the series continuing without its lead actor. Joining John to breakdown this movie in a double-sized episode is Dan Greenfield of 13th Dimension, Billy Flynn of Geek Radio Daily, and Ben Bentley of the Batman 66 Message Board. Comment on the episode here or write thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.   Dan Greenfield is the editor and co-creator of 13thDimension.com, a website devoted primarily to comics and pop culture, past and present. To him, the basic food groups are Batman, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek (the Original Series), James Bond, the Beatles and the Stones. But if he had to he'd be able to subsist on Batman alone. Channel 11 in New York was his favorite syndicated channel as a kid -- you can guess why -- followed closely by Channel 5. Channel 9 didn't really enter into it unless he was home sick and there wasn't much else on. He's married to his remarkably patient wife Wendy and his best sidekick is his son, Sam. They have two cats,Lex and Zod.   Links 13th Dimension Website Facebook page Twitter   The Wonderful Billy Flynn brings the funny each week on Geek Radio Daily! His daytime alter ego is mild-mannered (well, that part is a stretch) radio station personality at WLEE in Virginia.   He actually gets paid to sit on his butt and run his mouth! His “edumacation” is from UNC-Wilmington, the Columbia School of Broadcasting, and University of Phoenix. When he is not gracing the podcasting airways with his comedic stylings, you can find Billy Flynn on Xbox Live (flynn71), rockin' out on Guitar Hero or Rock Band, watching movies, reading comics, working out, or posting on the forums at geekradiodaily.com (ding!).   "Ben Bentley is an internationally published music photographer and Bat-Fan based in the United Kingdom. When Ben isn't behind the camera, you can find him sharing his lifelong love of Adam West's TV Batman as a co-moderator over at the 1966 Batman Message Board (66batman.com). Having traveled to California several times to attend conventions and hang out with Bat-friends, Ben has been lucky enough to try on one of Adam's original screen worn Cowls, meet several surviving cast members from the show and even run up and down the steps of Gotham City Police Headquarters in his own Adam West Batsuit.   You can keep up to date with Ben's photographic work over on his blog... http://www.benbentleyphoto.tumblr.com or why not come and join Scott, Ben and the gang at the internet's longest standing 1966 TV Batman message board... http://www.66batman.com".

Hey, Do You Remember...?

You want to get nuts? Come on... let's get nuts. It's the 100th episode of HDYR and there really was never any question which film we were going to revisit for this milestone. If you're even a little bit familiar with this show, you probably could have guessed - it had to be Batman. This one made quite an impression on all three of us as kids and for Chris in particular, this was a formative movie-going experience. Which is not to say he can't be objective about some of its more controversial elements. This is a fairly divisive adaptation of the Caped Crusader's mythology and a lot of the criticisms are valid. But are those betrayals of the source material a deal breaker or are they outweighed by the elements this gets right? Topics include: the decade long journey to get Batman on the silver screen, previous incarnations of the film before Tim Burton got involved, some surprising alternate casting choices for both Batman and The Joker, how Vicki and Knox were better served by earlier versions of this script, why the movies can't ever quite nail that Harvey Dent/Two-Face transformation, the heavily rewritten third act (which at one point introduced Robin!), the plot of Sam Hamm's original Batman 2 script, our thoughts on this Joker in a post-Dark Knight world, who our favorite live-action Batman is, and much much more! iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
