Some cricketers we love at first sight; some, we take time to appreciate; others, we do not understand the fuss; and still others are quick to get under our skins. Often, we review our views over time - and often surprise ourselves by changing our opinions about cricketers. Kapil Dev, Ishant Sharma, Ravi Shastri, Ian Chappell, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Steve Waugh - all formidable cricketers. All of whom we have changed our minds over at various stages. And all of whom we focus on in this episode - to understand the evolution of our fandom. Talking Points: What Kapil Dev chasing Hadlee's record meant for many young fans The staggering image of Kapil being a combination of Bumrah and Pant Ishant Sharma's arrival in Test cricket - and the 'trolling' years that followed Post-2016 Ishant - the most improved Indian cricketer this decade? This week on the show we review a great week for both the Black Caps and the White Ferns, as well as a host of other topics as we look back at the week that was. We start by discussing the amazing performance from Matt Henry, which saw him record the third-best bowling figures in a Test innings for New Zealand, as well as smashing a quick 50 at #11. There's praise for Tim Southee, Tom Blundell and Colin de Grandhomme as well as Gary Stead for his decision to promote Neil Wagner to #5 in the absence of Kane Williamson. But will South Africa bounce back in the second Test? We remain in Aotearoa to chat about the White Ferns, who have looked more and more impressive with every game of their series against India, highlighted by contributions from many different players within the squad. Then it's a quick look at the domestic scene, with the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield and the Ford Trophy up for grabs this weekend. As we venture offshore, we discuss a changing of the guard for the Indian Test team, with Pujara, Rahane, Saha and Ishant all left out. There are questions around the Australian white ball team, despite winning their T20 series 4-1 against a Sri Lankan side that showed a lot of promise. Will Aaron Finch make it to the next T20 World Cup? And how much is the IPL going to impact international tours for both Australia and New Zealand? We'll be back in your feed again later this week with a special guest to preview the Women's World Cup. Adam Collins and Geoff Lemon sum up the action, name our Player of the Day, and rank entries for our own Hall of Fame.It couldn't have got any better. Another gripping day that again ended prematurely thanks to bad light. Kyle Jamieson set a Test record with another five-wicket haul, up against some fight from Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin. Then it was New Zealand's turn to be scrutinised against the moving ball, with India's quicks starting the interrogation but Ashwin getting first results. The most important moment of the day happened in the last five minutes... Find The Final Word's longer shows on podcast apps. You can support the show at patreon.com/thefinalword. The formalities were completed, and now New Zealand head into the World Test Championship final on a winning note. But which of their many bowling options will each team choose? Bumrah, Ishant, Shami, Ashwin, Jadeja, Siraj are all top-class for India. Boult, Southee, Wagner, Jamieson, Henry are the same for New Zealand, but space for a spinner is also required, and Ajaz Patel may have gone past Santner. So many options, so little time, as England try to make sense of such a comprehensive defeat. It's another full house this week with Varun, Ashwin and DJ as we raise our bat after scoring our maiden ton (the only century scored during the New Zealand v India test series!). It's also our second year anniversary episode so we get excited, emotional and also a little nostalgic in turn. But there is work to be done so we discuss India's disastrous 2-0 series loss against New Zealand (first series loss during the WTC). We go over the opportunities wasted by Indian batsmen in the first and second innings, poor use of the DRS and once again India's inability to get the tail out hurting them in the final analysis. We also rant a little more about India's intent problem and its selection and team management issues with a focus on Ishant's injury and swapping Ashwin for Jadeja. We then wrap the series with our thoughts on Kohli's intense press conference where he snaps at the reporter asking him about swearing at Kane Williamson and the Kiwi crowd. In the second half of the show we talk about our favourite century from childhood and the Women's T20 World Cup where Team India has topped the group and will play the first semi final. Finally Ashwin hosts a quiz about centuries for Varun and DJ. Enjoy! Link to Kohli press conference https://twitter.com/1tip1hand/status/1234399095806185477?s=21
