In this episode of American Potential, host David From sits down with Marine Corps veteran Adam Jahnke, Strategic Director for Concerned Veterans for America in South Carolina, to discuss the Taking Care of American Veterans Act and what it could mean for veterans and their families. Adam breaks down several major reforms included in the legislation, including the Major Richard Star Act, which would address retirement benefits for combat-wounded veterans; the Veterans Access Act, which would expand veterans' ability to choose health care providers outside the VA; and the Love Lives On Act, which would protect benefits for surviving military spouses who choose to remarry. Drawing from his own experience as a Purple Heart recipient and former VA clinical social worker, Adam also discusses the problems veterans continue to face navigating the VA system and why greater choice could lead to better health outcomes. The conversation also tackles one of the biggest debates surrounding the legislation: how to deliver meaningful new benefits and health care reforms while being responsible with taxpayer dollars. Adam explains why he believes modernizing the VA system and prioritizing resources for critically injured veterans and their families can accomplish both.

Ein Festival, in this economy? Was steckt logistisch und finanziell dahinter? Was sind die Risiken? Und was, es gibt Sozialtickets?! Mega! Roman und Thomas sind absolute Musik-Liebhaber und das haben sie sowohl mit diesem Festival, als auch im Gespräch komplett zur Schau gestellt! Danke an die beiden und euch viel Spaß!

This episode of the Not a-Fib Podcast features Dr. Sarah Jahnke, someone who spent over a decade researching the health of first responders. The conversation moves past the usual surface-level advice to tackle the deep-seated cultural issues that lead to burnout and chronic disease. Jahnke challenges the "badge of honor" mentality surrounding sleep deprivation, citing evidence that shift work itself is a likely carcinogen. The discussion also reframes mental health through a unique lens, comparing it to hypertension—a condition that requires constant monitoring rather than just emergency intervention. While the statistics on depression and PTSD in the fire service remain high compared to the general population, Jahnke highlights the protective power of the fire service's unique camaraderie. In this powerful Memorial Day episode of American Potential, host David From is joined by Marine Corps veteran Adam Jahnke, now a Strategic Director at Concerned Veterans for America, to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday through the stories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Adam shares deeply personal memories of his fellow Marines—Corporal René Martinez, Lance Corporal Donald Chaplain, and others—who were killed while serving in Iraq. He also talks candidly about the realities of combat, the emotional toll of survivor's guilt, and his journey of recovery after being wounded in 2006. This conversation goes beyond the headlines and ceremonies. It's a sobering, heartfelt reminder that Memorial Day is not just a time for relaxation—it's a time to honor lives lost, to tell their stories, and to recognize the lasting impact on those who served alongside them. Adam challenges us to rethink how we observe Memorial Day—not just with gratitude, but with intention: by reaching out, listening, and ensuring that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes are never forgotten.
Renee Jahnke shares her journey of leaving a 26-year career that no longer brought her happiness. Taking two years to make this tough decision, she was filled with fear of the unknown. Despite the challenges, she prioritized her mental and physical well-being. We want to inspire others to realize that it's okay to abandon a successful career if it no longer fulfills you and to seek passion and fulfillment in life, even if it means making difficult changes.
