LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 7, 2024) – The interconnectedness of Black arts and cultural institutions is essential to the mission of community impact and affecting change. That's one of the observations made by University of Kentucky Assistant Professor Jaleesa Wells, Ph.D., from the Department of Arts Administration. For 12 months — from June 2023 through May 2024 — Wells explored the relationships between three East Okland, California, arts organizations: Artist as First Responder, Black Cultural Zone and Eastside Arts Alliance.  “The crux of my project was interviewing the stakeholders, interviewing their community members, board members, artists and the community that they interacted with,” Wells said.  Those groups were cultural institutions, she said, that went beyond the confines of their respective physical spaces.  On this edition of “Behind the Blue,” Tom Musgrave of UK Public Relations and Strategic Communications and Shauna Morgan, Ph.D., an associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in UK's Department of English Creative Writing Division, join Wells to discuss her exploration of those three groups and how she is applying what she's learned to her work at UK.  ‘Behind the Blue' is available via a variety of podcast providers, including iTunes and Spotify. Become a subscriber to receive new episodes of “Behind the Blue” each week. UK's latest medical breakthroughs, research, artists and writers will be featured, along with the most important news impacting the university.  For questions or comments about this or any other episode of "Behind the Blue," email BehindTheBlue@uky.edu or tweet your question with #BehindTheBlue. The Surfer’s Journal presents Soundings with Jamie Brisick

Hailing from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, freesurfer Jaleesa Vincent leads a life deeply immersed in explorative practices of self-expression and connection with nature. If she isn't hunting for waves, she's playing music, painting, cooking, writing poetry, and experimenting with taxidermy. Over the past few years, her output has helped define a new generation of paradigmatic Renaissance surfers in Australia through unbending fidelity to play, creativity, and staying true to oneself—in the water and out of it. In this episode, Vincent talks with show host Jamie Brisick about her robust creative sentiment, the importance of losing yourself in the things you love, rediscovering her inner child, tap dancing, her recent injury, rustic living, Indonesia, touring with her band, and cultivating her sense of what it means to be a woman.

On this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome Jaleesa Jaikaran to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Jaleesa grew up in Trinidad, the small island where her life-long passion for makeup was birthed. Her involvement in a fashion show led her to purchase a foundation that became the spark that led her into the world of fashion and beauty. In 2011, while pursuing her business degree, she landed a job with a cosmetic company, where she was exposed to the international scope of the beauty industry and the opportunity to train her peers. Having worked with Trinidad's most well-known photographers, designers, and artists and as a freelance beauty writer, she took her unrelenting passion and desire to learn, packed up her bags and moved to New York. Jaleesa works to enhance a clients' natural beauty, “I like skin to look like skin,” she says. Obsessed with the transformative powers of makeup, her approach has always been to see the entire picture first and tailor it to suit the creative vision. Her inspiration comes from being exposed to diverse cultures and the desire to uplift the self-esteem of women as this was a struggle she experienced growing up. The vivacity she possesses along with the tremendous expertise and enthusiasm she brings to every job are the driving forces behind her successes thus far. Jaleesa is proud to have been called on to assist Kabuki, Lisa Elridge, Pat McGrath, and Isamaya Ffrench. With that extensive experience, Jaleesa has now had her work in publications like Elle, Glamour, L'Officiel, Vogue, and Schon!  Currently, Jaleesa spends her time working on commercials and campaigns, while collaborating with beauty brands by creating content like before and afters, how to's and reviews. Welcome back to another episode of the Punch Drunk Soul Podcast where we share the best stories, tips, tricks, motivators to help you jumpstart and grow your soul-aligned coaching business! Today I'm bringing on a coach on my team, Jaleesa Chambers who is one of our Path to Freedom Coach Accelerator success coaches. Jaleesa is a new mom and is not new to the feeling of being unmotivated and overwhelmed in her coaching business. So today we're going to talk all about how to get back on the horse when you fall off, how to reignite your motivation after disappointments, and how to dust yourself off after failures in your own coaching business. This may sound simple, but in reality, it's VERY hard to do! We've all been there. We've all run into scenarios that we had high hopes for, just to be crushed with crippling disappointment and failure when those things didn't turn out as we'd hoped. And then trying to find your motivation and will to go on can be...well challenging! But if there's one thing we've learned in business it's that the ONLY way to success is through failure.   The ONLY way you're going to reach your goals in your coaching business is if you learn how to pick yourself up & get back on track after you fall down. Because if you stay down, so does your coaching business.   STAY TUNED TO LEARN: ✨How we coach our clients to stay motivated after disappointments ✨What we do to gain motivation and inspiration after feeling stuck, lost or overwhelmed in our coaching business ✨How to re-wire your brain to focus on the positive over the negative (my 2-sided paper hack) ✨An energetic & somatic practice to physically move energy through your body in just minutes or seconds to get you back on track   2) Path to Freedom Coach Accelerator program (Intensive 8-week Program)

Today we are starting a new series called “Collaboration Over Competition,” and I'm super excited about my guests. I'm joined by my husband Aaron and my dear friend Jaleesa McCreary. Aaron and Jaleesa work together at The Austin Stone Community Church, and in this episode we talk about how they collaborate in the workplace. In addition to leading worship at our church's downtown congregation, Jaleesa is the worship team manager, overseeing all of the worship leaders across our six different campuses. As the pastor of worship and creativity, Aaron leads and serves the creative teams at all six locations, supporting the people tasked with design, film, and production. Aaron and Jaleesa share their story, the journey they've taken to get where they are today, and what it's like working together. We talk about the dynamics of the relationship between males and females, how they work through conflicts when things arise, and why it's hard for people to collaborate, especially working in the church. We talk about how Jaleesa has felt championed by Aaron, and what it looks like for Aaron to empower women. Jaleesa says what helps her in her role is thinking of herself less as the person who leads the worship leaders and more as the person who serves the worship leaders. You're going to love this conversation, and we've got more episodes on “Collaboration Over Competition” coming your way next week, too! Connect with JamieFacebook //  Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

In this episode with my friend Jalessa McCreary, she talks about how she's changed the way she rests as she's transitioned through seasons both in motherhood and professionally. She also addresses the anxiety some of us feel when we consider stopping to rest and the shame that can accompany it, as well as why silence is vital to get acquainted with the Holy Spirit and recognize God's voice.
