MDJ Script/ Top Stories for April 9th Publish Date: April 9th Commercial: From the Ingles Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Tuesday, April 9th, and Happy heavenly Birthday to Hugh Hefner. ***04.09.24 – BIRTHDAY – HUGH HEFNER*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Police Investigate Suspected Murder-Suicide in Marrietta Solar Eclipse Fosters Unity Among Marietta Residents Debate Among Commissioners on Amendments to Public Commentary Regulations All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: CUofGA STORY 1: Marietta Police: Two Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide In Marietta, a tragic event resulted in the deaths of Michael Reno, 37, and Courtney Dobberson-Watts, 35, following a prolonged SWAT standoff that lasted approximately seven hours. The situation began when law enforcement pursued a vehicle bearing a stolen license plate, leading to Dobberson-Watts' residence where Reno was present. Reno had been identified as a suspect in a separate investigation in Paulding County related to the theft of significant amounts of cash and firearms. Despite efforts by SWAT teams to negotiate a peaceful resolution, both individuals were found dead inside the home upon entry. The Marietta Police Department is actively conducting an investigation into this murder-suicide case and encourages the public to provide any relevant information. STORY 2: Eclipse creates community in Marietta The Great North American Eclipse brought together communities in Cobb County, as people congregated at the Switzer Library to experience this astronomical phenomenon. Achieving between 81 to 86% totality, attendees engaged in a variety of activities, from viewing the eclipse through protective glasses to participating in space-themed crafts and tuning into a NASA livestream. For Marietta local Kathy Slough and others, this event was more than just a rare celestial occurrence; it was an opportunity for unity, bringing together individuals from all walks of life in shared wonder and curiosity. Destiny and Adam Kosarick found the near-total eclipse to be a profoundly moving, almost ethereal experience. Similarly, Chigoke Adoma reflected on the eclipse as a powerful moment of spiritual renewal and balance, offering a sense of solace and connection in the aftermath of recent global challenges. STORY 3: Commissioners Divided Over Public Comment Rule Change The Cobb Board of Commissioners postponed a discussion on changing meeting rules to disallow public commenters from giving audiovisual presentations. At their work session, commissioners found no consensus for the proposed revision, which would have permitted handouts but prohibited media presentations. With insufficient support, the item was removed from the agenda. Instead, they considered forming a study group to address related issues. Commissioner Jerica Richardson highlighted the evolving technological landscape and its implications for public discourse. Cobb Communications Director Ross Cavitt emphasized the need to navigate copyright regulations and intellectual property concerns. Chairwoman Lisa Cupid directed members to a memo suggesting alternatives for sharing visual presentations. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We'll be right back. Break: DRAKE STORY 4: Where Cobb's Mayors Stand on the 30-year Transit Tax Leaders from Cobb County and its cities expressed divided opinions on the proposed 30-year, 1% transit tax during a meeting. While some mayors showed interest and asked questions, none outright endorsed the tax. Concerns were raised about the lengthy timeline and potential impact on future SPLOST referendums. Officials unveiled projections outlining the expected benefits and investments from the tax, emphasizing flexibility and operational funding. Mayor Steve Tumlin echoed concerns about voter appetite for SPLOST programs. The Cobb Board of Commissioners plans to vote on the resolution to place the referendum on the November ballot on June 11. STORY 5: Cobb County's Cody Rhodes Wins WWE Championship in WrestleMania Main Event Cody Rhodes, a Cobb County native and Lassiter High School alum, achieved a historic victory at WrestleMania XL by ending Roman Reigns' WWE Universal Championship reign. This win fulfilled a promise to his late father, Dusty Rhodes, a legendary wrestler who never attained main championship gold in WWE. Cody's journey was marked by initial limitations in WWE, followed by a successful stint in All Elite Wrestling before returning to WWE in 2022. Reflecting on his father's influence and legacy post-victory, Rhodes expressed gratitude towards WWE executives for the meaningful gesture of returning his father's watch, symbolizing the profound personal and professional significance of his achievement. We'll be back in a moment. Break: INGLES 5 STORY 6: Cobb Chamber Names Top 25 Small Businesses The Cobb County Chamber of Commerce unveiled its annual list of the Top 25 Small Businesses and Three Businesses to Watch, recognizing their contributions to the county's vitality. The distinctions include Small Business of the Year, Businesses to Watch, and a Community Service Excellence award. The awards ceremony will take place on May 13 at the Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre, with tickets available on CobbChamber.org/SBOY. STORY 7: 'Married at First Sight's Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner Share Gender Reveal Video—With a Twist Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner from "Married at First Sight" announced their pregnancy with twins in February after struggling with infertility. They recently revealed the gender of one of the babies through a YouTube video. Their children, Henley and Hendrix, participated in a gender reveal using tic-tac-toe blocks, ultimately revealing that one of the twins is a boy. As entrepreneurs, our natural inclination is to want to put our best foot forward on social media, but building an authentic following is often about being as vulnerable as possible. Today on the show my guest is Jamie Otis, and she joins me to talk about her journey toward vulnerability as a TV personality and social media influencer, and how this connects to her process as an entrepreneur. Jamie is a dynamic American TV personality, registered nurse, entrepreneur, and TV host, having been on shows such as The Bachelor, Bachelor Pad, and Married at First Sight. In this episode, Jamie shares the story of how she ended up being selected to appear on these widely viewed shows and the shame she felt about admitting that she grew up in a trailer park on them. She talks about meeting her husband on Married at First Sight and building a career based partly on their relationship involving the podcast they co-host together – Hot Marriage. Cool Parents. Our conversation covers the inspiration Jamie became to other women after she shared about her background and how this helped her build an audience connected by authenticity and vulnerability. We also get into Jamie's processes during pregnancy and motherhood, moving toward accepting her body, and how she is helping others do the same through her course, Become Body Positive. Be sure to tune into this great conversation all about using your story for a purpose and a business!

She’s opening up about her troubled childhood, what led her to marry a complete stranger on television, and how the heck her and Doug’s relationship grew from there! Plus, all about motherhood, difficulty conceiving, and sharing it all on social media!

Jen and Alise have an amazing guest! They are getting real with Jamie Otis. You may have seen Jamie on "The Bachelor" or more famously on "Married At First Sight" where she met her husband to whom she is now madly in love with 5 years later. She loves being referred to as wife and almost two years ago added "Mom" to her title. Jamie is also a labor and delivery nurse, author, TV host, and podcaster. But what we appreciate most about Jamie is her honest, down to earth personality. Jamie got really honest with us about how she manages all the roles in her life, hemorrhoids, birth, sex after a baby, and things even a labor /delivery nurse found challenging postpartum.
Pull up a seat with Erica, Melissa and today’s guest, reality superstar, Jamie Otis! What started as a stint on the Bachelor turned into Jamie becoming Married at First Sight. I can't even imagine the balls it took for Jamie Otis and Dough Hehner to get married at first sight. But that's exactly what they did! They were on the first season of the hit Lifetime show "Married at First Sight" and are coming up on their 5th wedding anniversary. In the last 5 years they've faced challenges just like every newlywed couples do, but they did it under the watchful public eye. And from what I can tell, a lot of people are rooting for them to make it! So I was very excited to talk with them and get some scoop on how they make it work. If Jamie looks familiar outside of MAFS, it's because she was a contestant on the 16th season of The Bachelor and the spin of The Bachelor Pad. She explains how her time on those shows changed her outlook on love and sent her right into the arms of Married at First Sight. That's where she went through weeks of what I called pre-marriage counseling and high-level matchmaking and was paired with Doug Hehner to get married. You can read more about her story on their website, and hear what she says happened next and why she wanted to do that show in this episode. Credit: Jamie Otis/Instagram In the last 5 years Doug and Jamie also started a podcast called Hot Marriage, Cool Parents where they talk about their unusual coupling and the joys of parenthood. I love how raw and honest they are about their journey and I know you will too. Listen to this episode on iTunes and don't forget to leave a review! And while you're there make sure you subscribe to their podcast as well and you can listen to the interview they did with me!
Jamie Otis appeared as a contestant on the sixteenth season of The Bachelor. She is most known for participating in the first season of Married at First Sight, where she met her husband, Doug Hehner. The couple was later featured in a spin-off series, Married at First Sight: The First Year. Jamie discusses her experiences on both The Bachelor and Married at First Sight, this season of Married at First Sight, and her fertility journey. Director Tommy Avallone discusses The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man, which is currently available on Netflix and Amazon. The film is one man’s journey to find meaning in Bill Murray’s many unexpected adventures with everyday people, rare and never-before seen footage of the comedic icon participating in stories previously presumed to be urban legend.Brandon Alvarado hilariously reviews this season of Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club.Reality Life with Kate Casey http://www.loveandknuckles.comTwitter: @katecaseyInstagram: @katecaseycaFacebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245/Facebook.com/loveandknucklesAmazon List: http://www.amazon.com/shop/katecaseycaZIPRECRUITERhttp://www.ziprecruiter.comPROMO CODE: REALITYKATEMILKLIFEhttps://milklife.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We never planned on recording this episode, but you know how much it matters to us to be open and honest with you. We’ll never pretend that everything is perfect; we value you enough that we want to be vulnerable with you. Not long ago, we announced that we were pregnant. Jamie felt deep down that this was going to be a great pregnancy… until she started spotting. This can be totally normal for some women and some pregnancies, but Jamie had the exact same symptoms with our angel baby, Jonathan. Unfortunately, for us, the spotting indicated that there was a problem. If you haven’t heard, we had a (failed) miscarriage. We were so excited for this pregnancy, but part of us was guarded because we had lost a pregnancy before, even as we tried to stay positive. It’s amazing how hard it is to stay calm and stress-free while accepting that you can’t control whether your pregnancy has a successful outcome. Of course, this brings up a lot of complicated thoughts and emotions. We’re so happy for our friends who are due around the same time we were, but at the same time, it’s impossible to avoid feeling sorrow that we’re not going to be having a baby with them. Something we’re grateful for is that we went against the conventional wisdom of waiting to tell people about a pregnancy; how can they support you through your loss if you don’t tell them? On that note, we’re so grateful for the outpouring of love. Thank you for helping us to get through things. If you’re wondering what you should (and shouldn’t) say to someone who has suffered from a loss, don’t miss this episode. We’ll discuss some tips, and list some specific things you absolutely shouldn’t say (even if they’re true for us). For example, don’t ever say things like, “At least you know you can get pregnant,” “You weren’t that far along,” or “This miscarriage must be easier than the last one.” Things you can say include, “I’m thinking of you,” “This baby will never be forgotten,” “I’m so sorry for your loss,” and “I can’t imagine what you’re going through.” Even better is to sit and just listen! We don’t want you to ever feel alone. If you’ve suffered with fertility in any way, and you feel like there’s no one you can talk to about it, please reach out to us! So many of us go through these things, and no one should ever feel like they don’t have someone on their side. Finally, we’ll chat about Jamie’s book, Wifey 101! Tune into the episode to hear what it’s about and get a taste of what you’ll read when you buy it. (Plus you’ll learn how to get a signed copy!) Last week, on our first-ever episode of our new podcast, we shared an exciting announcement. If you didn’t hear it, we won’t keep you in suspense: we’re pregnant!! Doug’s first reaction was concern for our wonderful daughter Henley, but we quickly got super excited. After a couple stories about intimate moments gone very wrong, we’ll transition into talking about more important (and less, uh, personal) things: our two amazing guests today from our MAFS family! In case you’re not familiar with our story or the acronym, we met and got married on the same day on the first season of the show Married at First Sight. Our guests, >Ashley Petta and Anthony D’Amico went through the same crazy experience in season 5, and it turned out wonderfully for them too! If you’ve ever doubted the idea of love at first sight, you need to watch their season. They’re still so in love, beautifully happy, and are super pregnant in their new house as we speak. We’ll chat about the experience of moving while heavily pregnant, which is something we have in common. We’ll also dig into the topic of intimacy while pregnant, including suddenly-larger boobs that are off-limits (ouch!) and having sex while pregnant. We also share the stories of how we respectively revealed our babies’ genders. You’ll learn that Anthony has special dream-powers, because he figured out his future wife’s first initial and his future baby’s gender through dreams. We then talk about baby names! We always knew we wanted to name our daughter Henley, but we don’t even have a boy’s name picked out. Ashley and Anthony aren’t ready to reveal their unborn daughter’s name yet, but they’ll share a name they aren’t using! Tune in to hear more about all of this! We’ll also talk about how long house-hunting took for them, whether they have experience with other infants in the family, taking advantage of pregnancy (and nursing), putting swings together, conceiving our babies, and more. Our daughter Henley will even make an appearance! Links and Resources: Married at First Sight Ashley Petta on Instagram Anthony D’Amico on Instagram White With Style (our sponsor!)
