Life can throw so much at us—unexpected challenges, significant transitions, and the everyday pressures in our personal and professional lives. Recently, I experienced overwhelming emotions when my family received nearly 50 boxes of items from our house that survived a fire. We've also been navigating the stress of selling a home, living in a hotel, and buying a new home in a new state. Needless to say, it's been overwhelming! So today, let's chat about Overcoming Overwhelm!  In this episode, I specifically chat through the stories of biblical figures who faced overwhelming situations, including practical steps for navigating overwhelm in your life. Here's a sneak peek into what I share:Moses: Learn how Moses dealt with the immense burden of leading the Israelites and how God provided support to help him carry the load.Elijah: Discover how Elijah found rest and spiritual reassurance after a major victory left him feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed.Job: Reflect on Job's experience of profound loss and suffering, and how his trust in God's wisdom brought him solace.Ruth: Understand how Ruth navigated the uncertainty of widowhood and a foreign land, and how her faithfulness led to new beginnings. Friends, feeling overwhelmed is a natural part of the human experience, but you don't have to face it alone. By leaning into Jesus and taking practical, intentional steps, you can navigate life's challenges with resilience and hope. You are not alone, and together, with God, we can overcome overwhelm! Reflection QuestionsAre you carrying burdens alone that could be shared? Who in your life can you trust to help you carry these responsibilities? When was the last time you truly rested and took care of your physical and spiritual needs? How can you create space for rest and renewal in your busy schedule? In moments of deep overwhelm and pain, how do you find the strength to trust in God's plan? Can you recall a time when trusting God brought you peace, even without understanding the situation? How can you cultivate unwavering faithfulness in your life, like Ruth did, even when you're facing uncertainty and overwhelm? What steps can you take to actively trust in God's provision and timing?Episode Takeaways"Just as God provided Moses with seventy elders, we can seek out our own support systems to share our burdens.""Taking care of our physical and spiritual needs can help us navigate overwhelming times, just as God provided Elijah with food, rest, and gentle reassurance.""Like Job, we can find solace in trusting God's wisdom, even when circumstances are confusing or painful.""Ruth's unwavering faithfulness and hard work were honored by God, showing us the importance of staying committed to His path.""Feeling overwhelmed is a natural part of the human experience, but you don't have to face it alone—lean into Jesus for resilience and hope."Connect with Jen:Connect with Jen:Website: https://drjenbennett.com/#BeWorthFollowing Book: http://amzn.to/2H4gn9mInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/drjenbennett/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drjenbennett/Dr. Jen Bennett, Associate Professor at IWU, empowers future leaders in business entrepreneurship. Adventures Of A New You

In the past few months we’ve all been forced by the universe to slow down and there have been good things that have come from this. We all live in a world where we constantly hustle and bustle and go from one thing to the next. We go from work, to picking our kids up from school, to rushing to activities to throwing dinner at the kids in the car and we never really have downtime.Having this forced downtime has allowed us all to spend more time with each other.Of course there are negative aspects of this and negative implications for everyone. But there positive things that have come out of this. For many of us working moms we had to go back to work 6 to 8 weeks after our babies were born leaving them in the care of someone else because we needed to be able to provide for them. Many of us have never had time at home with our kids. I was one of those moms.I went right back to work after my son was born. I had to go back to work to provide for him.I had planned to take six months off to be at home with him.But that plan was shattered and my heart was broken but I went back to work.Since that time I have worked. I work while my son goes to school and after care and I work during the summer so he goes to camp. So many moms like me have dreamed of being able to do things differently. We have plotted and schemed and tried to figure out how to be at home with our kids. Well now we have that. We get to be at home and work at home and be with our kids. Granted this time at home has not exactly been what we had always been looking for. We have been trying to juggle work, kids, home, school and even take on challenges that we’ve never been faced before and we are doing it all at once. But there has also been this quality time that we have gotten to have with our families that we would not have typically had. I’ve had time to sit and eat meals with my son. I’ve had times to play games with my son. I’ve had times to do things like build a swingset and start a garden. I've gotten to do things that have always been on my to do list but have never been accomplished because we’re always moving and shaking. We live in a society that doesn’t value rest and doesn’t necessarily value being present but we’ve all had a reminder over this time to slow down do things more simply and just be.So as things are shifting once again and many things are reopening it’s important for us to have learned from this period of time and to value the slow down.As you’re scheduling your time going forward make sure that you are scheduling time for rest .Schedule time to literally slow down.If you have a friend or even a family member that would love to hear this podcast please share this podcast with them and encourage them to join us!Join my mailing list to get My Best Tips For Women Working In Helping ProfessionsSchedule a FREE Coaching call with Jen Connect with Jen and others on their adventures at Adventures of a New You on Facebook! For daily inspiration and support visit Jen on Instagram at Adventures Of A New You For inspiration check out Jen’s Pinterest Jen can also be reached via email at adventuresofanewyou@gmail.com

Episode 52: Real Life vs the Highlight ReelDon’t get caught up in other people’s highlight reels. When people post about their wonderful vacations we don’t share that the cat ran away as we were trying to leave, we don’t share that we packed two bottles of conditioner and no shampoo. They don’t show that they lost their minds trying to get the kids to help get everything packed. They don’t show you that someone got sick and tossed their cookies all over a walmart parking lot. Mom’s get frustrated and then we hide and cry in the shower when we get overwhelmed or stressed. We try to show up as brave and strong and we don’t want anyone to see that we are struggling. But we need to normalize the struggles in life. We need to make it acceptable to share that we need help. We need our kids to know that we have our own struggles and that we may get upset but that we will problem solveLife is messy, really messy and we all need to remember that it is messy for everyone not just for us. Sometimes we look at what other people appear to have and we get jealous. But we need to remember to keep ourselves in check because we actually have no idea what is going on with those individuals and honestly it’s none of our business! Sometimes Father’s day is a trigger for people. You see all of the family’s together and sometimes think that families are supposed to be a mom, a dad, 2.5 kids and a dog. But that’s not what families are. Families are the people that surround each other, show up for each other and take care of each other. That looks different in every situation. Sometimes our natural families are unhealthy, sometimes our blended families are unhealthy. Sometimes you are blessed with a bonus family. You may not get to decide who you are biologically related to but you do get to decide who gets to be a part of your life. You get to decide who you allow to take up your time. You are allowed to put boundaries in to protect yourself. You should put boundaries in to make yourself feel safe. You should stop feeling guilty because you don’t agree with other people. You should stop people from wasting your time. Your time is so incredibly valuable and it is time for us to stop giving our time to people who don’t deserve it. Time is a commodity just like money. We need to show up in our real lives every single day and know that it’s not perfect, some days it’s not even pretty. But we need to make the most of each day and do the best that we can. We need to stop worrying about what everyone is doing or what everyone else has! Put your blinders on, put your phone down and go out and live your life. I shared a post on instagram about taking a break. The other day by 2pm I was done. I was done with work. I was done with parenting. I was done with myself. So we got in the car. We had nowhere that we had to go and frankly few places that you can even go. But I needed that break. I needed that sense of normalcy. I am a doer. I am a mover and a shaker. I’m not someone who stays home… like literally ever. So at some points this being home is frustrating. Notice I didn’t say hard. It’s not hard to stay home. It’s frustrating. Lots of things are frustrating right now. Some things are challenging. Working during this time is a big challenge. There is a constant pull from home, there is a constant pull at work and everyone needs us at the same time and if you are like me you feel like you can’t show up as the best version of yourself in any one of these places because we are being asked to show up in all of these places at one time. There are so many things going on that it is completely over stimulating. Self regulating takes time, it takes practice, it takes being insightful and mindful. Sometimes it takes dealing with shit that we don’t want to deal with. But if you are a bottler then you know that you can only fit so much into the bottle until one day it explodes all over everything and if this has ever happened to you then you know that it’s not pretty and it will likely happen at a very inopportune time. So take a minute right here and just listen. Let your brain just go…. Scribble down your thoughts, or email them to yourself, you can even use the voice memos on your phone. Take a minute and let all of that out and then you can see what it is that you really need. If you want to bounce this off on someone, reach out to me! I am happy to jump in and do this with you!I’m telling you letting your brain go on this rant will give you a clear picture of what your body needs from you today.
