There's something happening here. Can you feel it?Joan Walsh and her fellow contributor at The Nation, Micah Sifray, both wrote this week about the resistance. Or as they both prefer, the defiance. But whatever you call it, it's here. And if you're not participating in it, then you're helping to take down our nation and our future. Today, Joan Walsh will join us to talk about it, for what it's worth.Senator Cory Booker has been speaking, holding the senate floor since 7pm ET last night. I'm writing this shortly before 4pm ET. I go on the air at 5. He's not delaying a vote, so it's not technically a filibuster. But he said he needed to do something different. "John Lewis and so many heroes before us would say that this is the time to stand up, to speak up,” Booker said near the start of his remarks. “This is the time to get in some good trouble, to get into necessary trouble. I can't allow this body to continue without doing something different, speaking out.”As I've not been able to listen for the now 19 hours he's been speaking, I can't tell you that I'll share the highlights. But we'll share some of them. And perhaps we'll hear him wrap it up.

Despite our best efforts to keep the weekend going, Mondays inevitably arrive. And with Mondays come the reality of the shit that hit the fan over the weekend. And the madness began Friday evening when we learned that D'ump has his unqualified, drunken idiot of a Secretary of Defense fired the highly qualified chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. At "The Nation," Joan Walsh's article on this travesty carries the headline, "Make No Mistake, This is Trump's Worst Move Yet".And that says something, as we know the moves he'd previously made.Joan Walsh joins me today to discuss wtf is happening and assist me in my search to find reasons for optimism...

She's been our Vice President for almost four years now, but do we really know Kamala Harris? Joan Walsh first interviewed her for a 2003 San Francisco magazine profile when Ms. Harris was running for district attorney. She sat down with most recently just a few weeks ago, for a cover story profile of the VP for The Nation magazine. The timing was fortuitous -- or maybe just slightly early, as they spoke just before the ill-fated debate between President Biden and his orange White House predecessor and now again-opponent. And then everything changed. Regardless, we'll speak with Joan Walsh on today's show about the woman who will (hopefully) be the first female President of the United States... But first... what a contrast. Kamala Harris held another rally last night, this time in Atlanta. It was quite brilliant and yes, I have clips. And as I'm writing this an hour before showtime, I just finished watching the livestream of TFG's appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, which was the polar opposite of quite brilliant.. And yes, I have clips of that too....

“The call was coming from inside the house,” says Fordham University political scientist Christina Greer about the pressure campaign Democrats applied to President Joe Biden in the weeks since his debate against Republican contender Donald Trump. Biden's fitness for another four-year term had been called into question, and although he seemed determined to stay in the race, his late-July announcement that he'd suspend his re-election campaign came with little surprise. That decision also came with an endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the new Democratic nominee, which prompted anxiety from Biden devotees, excitement for some Democrats who hoped for a (younger) infusion of energy into this campaign, and vicious attacks from the right. In this episode, host Kai Wright is joined by Greer, who is also host of The Blackest Questions podcast, and by Joan Walsh, national affairs correspondent for The Nation magazine, to discuss Biden's choice and electability politics as they relate to a likely new Democratic ticket with Kamala Harris at the top. They also hear from Americans around the country as they process the new dynamics of a volatile campaign year. Tell us what you think. We're @noteswithkai on Instagram and X (Twitter).
