Jeannette presents a special montage episode featuring insights from four remarkable CEOs leading multi-billion dollar businesses. Listeners will hear from Johan Lundgren, Group CEO of EasyJet, who discusses his rapid ascent in leadership and the importance of diversity and inclusion within his organisation. The episode also includes perspectives from Duncan O'Rourke, CEO of Accor, who shares his journey through the luxury hotel sector and the evolving definition of luxury in today's market. Additionally, Barbara Muckerman, former CEO of Silversea Cruises and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, and Oriele Frank, co-founder of Elemis, contribute their experiences and insights on brand building and sustainability KEY TAKEAWAYS Effective leadership during challenging times, such as a pandemic, involves breaking down overwhelming situations into manageable parts. Staying focused on outcomes and maintaining a positive demeanour can help guide teams through adversity. Authenticity is crucial for successful leadership. Being true to oneself and leading in a way that aligns with personal values fosters trust and engagement within teams. The cultural differences between running businesses in Sweden and the UK are discussed, noting that Scandinavian leadership often emphasises consensus and early adoption of digitalisation, which can influence decision-making processes. The journey of building a brand or business involves constant evolution and adaptation. Embracing change, learning from experiences, and being open to new ideas are essential for long-term success and sustainability. BEST MOMENTS "If you can let everybody be at their best level, if you can get everybody to express themselves in the most natural way, that ultimately must be better." "Luxury is limited by definition. Luxury is limited. It's personalised. And it's changed fundamentally from 10 years ago to what is luxury now." "I never thought that 10 men in the boardroom is equal as bad as 10 women in the boardroom." "Profit is not a dirty word. If we don't make profit, we don't have a business and we don't have people employed." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. On Ian's show, EasyJet boss Johan Lundgren talks about predictions of a record summer and why he's stepping down. Helen Gordon, Chief Executive of Grainger, discusses being on course to deliver 1,000 new rental homes this year in Birmingham, Bristol and North London. And, there's Steve Hare, chief executive of Sage, talking about a rise in profits and demands for its services.
The FTSE 100 fell in early trading as a string of companies went ex-dividend, while news from easyJet appeared to disappoint. Shell, BP, GSK, Tesco, Unilever and Kingfisher pushed the blue-chip index lower as they began to trade without the value of their next dividend payment, resulting in a temporary lowering of share prices. In addition, easyJet took an early morning hit after it was revealed its chief executive would be leaving at the start of next year, being replaced by current finance chief Kenton Jarvis. Johan Lundgren worked as the boss of the airline for seven years, most recently overseeing its return to the FTSE 100. One stock which pushed higher was BT after it lifted its dividend higher despite earnings coming in below expectations. New boss Allison Kirkby said that the telco achieved its £3 billion cost-cutting programme a year ahead of schedule and therefore nudged the final dividend 3.9% higher. #ProactiveInvestors #marketreport #ftse #ftse100 #footsie #easyjet #shell #hbp #gsk #unilever #kingfisher #bt #dividend #exdividend #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews
The FTSE 100 headed higher for a second day led by airline easyJet on a bullish trading update that helped put 45 points on the index at 7,893 in early trades. Ticket sales rose by 9% year-on-year and ancillaries jumped by 10%. Chief executive Johan Lundgren said easyJet expects to be one of the fastest-growing major airlines in Europe though he was mindful of Middle East situation. Music rights fund Hipgnosis Songs was the best performer following a bid from Nashville-based Concord at a 32% premium to yesterday's close. Meanwhile, Deliveroo shares rose by 6% as the takeaway specialist said gross transaction value was up 6%, with per-order value increasing 4%. International order growth outstripped the UK and Ireland. And wealth platform AJ Bell shares also rallied as customer numbers rose above half a million for the first time. Another 19,000 people signed up in the three months to March while net inflows also beat forecasts. #proactiveinvestors #marketreport #ftse #ftse100 #footsie #hipgnosissongs #delliveroo #easyjet #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

My Duvet Flip with Young Jack ft. Johan Lundgren, CEO at easyJet In this captivating episode, I have the privilege of conversing with the extraordinary Johan Lundgren, who serves as CEO at easyJet Johan Lundgren joined easyJet on 1 December 2017 as Chief Executive Officer. Johan trained as a classical musician before moving to Russia to begin his career as a tour guide, in part due to his love and knowledge of Russian composers. Since then he has spent more than 30 years working in the travel industry starting out in various roles in travel marketing and sales and then moving into managerial positions. He became a CEO of one of the top three travel companies in Sweden for the first time at the age of 29. Prior to joining easyJet, Johan was the Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Mainstream Tourism at TUI AG. Prior to this Johan was the Managing Director for the Northern Region at TUI Travel plc from 2007 until 2011. He has occupied 7 positions in 3 different companies (mytravel), then TUI and then easyJet. His first job ever was picking strawberries in the summer as a teenager. Join me as I delve into an enthralling discussion with Johan Lundgren, where we explore some of their most memorable instances of making mistakes and the valuable lessons they gained from them. Their journey and experiences serve as true inspiration! We extend a special thank you to Aviva, EY, and Totaljobs (Part of The Stepstone Group) for their support, which made this conversation possible.
Joining Lionel this week is the CEO of leading airline Easyjet. In this podcast they discuss what this challenging year has meant for the travel industry. We'll hear Johan Lundgren's thoughts on the vaccine passports and why the Government needs to open up more European countries for travel.
No industry has been hit harder by the global pandemic than aviation. Cross-border travel is either banned or constrained by tests and quarantines across much of the world. And, in a time full of uncertainty and insecurity, who wants to travel for either business or pleasure? Stephen Sackur speaks to Johan Lundgren, CEO of easyJet, Europe's second biggest budget airline. Can his business model survive the double whammy of Covid and climate change?
Ian King speaks to EasyJet boss Johan Lundgren who's questioning the government's reasoning behind amber list countries. All change! Hear from the general secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers - Mick Lynch – about how Britain's network is facing its biggest shake-up in a generation. And in his first broadcast interview, Kingfisher's chief executive Thierry Garnier talks about a strong rise in sales during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Johan Lundgren, Group CEO of EasyJet serving 100 million customers every year (pre-covid). They talk about his incredible career, how Johan wanted to be a professional classic trombonist originally but then started his journey in the travel industry starting out as a tour guide, becoming MD at the age of 29 and then progressing to become CEO. Johan shares many of the lessons he learned along the way and tips that anyone can apply to their business or role. Jeannette and Johan discuss the benefits of diversity in the workplace and explains how his organization has achieved the right mix and balance without relying on positive discrimination. He talks about why EasyJet is run as an egalitarian company and the approach they have taken to successfully deal with the fallout from the CoVid crisis. KEY TAKEAWAYS Take the opportunities as they come. If you discover that you cannot follow your dream for some reason, don´t give up find a new one. Spending time working at the coalface teaches you so much about your customer and industry. When making decisions, always ask yourself what impact it is going to have on your customer. Having a diverse and inclusive workforce brings many commercial benefits. When people with different perspectives work on a common goal the results are always better. Letting everyone express themselves in the most natural way creates energy and passion within an organisation. A good leader, leads by example and provides the framework for a motivated team to succeed. Johan has had to deal with multiple challenges at Easyjet - Brexit, Covid pandemic, data breach and shareholder activism. When faced with a big problem, break it down into pieces and assign a team to tackle each aspect. To make sense of a big problem and stay on track, focus on the outcome and what you're trying to achieve. Whatever difficulties have happened the day before, tomorrow is another day. When working as a leader, be yourself and be authentic. When you're younger you often feel you should behave in a certain way but with age and experience you learn to be more comfortable in yourself. Having mentors is critical to success Setting out to be proud of what you're doing gives you energy, and is a core part of Johan's true purpose Every day when you wake up you have the opportunity to be a little better than you were yesterday. Choose a career you feel passionate about - you're going to be spending a lot of time on it, so it needs to be engaging. Don’t be intellectually lazy, don´t be afraid to push things and go beyond good enough. BEST MOMENTS ‘Take the opportunities as they come.’ ‘Be at your best and do what you think you´re capable of doing and be a force for good. ´ ‘The best outcomes come by having people who have different experiences come together to achieve a common goal. ´ ‘Authenticity is absolutely critical when it comes to successful leadership. ´ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series www.jeannettelinfootassociates.com www.easyjet.com ABOUT THE GUEST Johan Lundgren joined easyJet as Chief Executive Officer in 2017. The boss of Easyjet, Johan Lundgren, sits down with the Evening Standard's Susannah Butter to explain how he thinks the UK's airlines can get off the ground again after nearly a year of pandemic restrictions. Right now, it's far from clear whether people will be allowed to travel this summer, and Mr Lundgren is calling for clarity on how lockdown will be lifted, saying that there is a "pent up demand" for people to get on flights abroad again. They also discuss vaccine passports, which he doesn't think "should be mandated". And he talks about the future of flight, describing how battery powered planes are already powerful enough to cover 2,000km, which would be 80% of Easyjet's network in Europe. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Still on the aviation industry, the boss of EasyJet says he would feel "100% safe" flying on full planes as the airline resumed a limited number of flights after a 10-week hiatus. Johan Lundgren told the PA news agency the airline had followed international guidelines to step up hygiene ahead of a resumption of services on Monday. Passengers and crew will wear masks and planes will be deep-cleaned often. But passengers will not have to sit 2-metres apart, despite calls for middle seats to remain empty for social distancing.
