If you've ever felt unsafe speaking up, shrunk your practice to avoid regulatory scrutiny, or wondered if the system designed to protect you is actually harming you—this conversation will validate everything you've been feeling but haven't said out loud.I'm speaking with Dr. Julie Sladden, a medical doctor, writer, and advocate who walked away from clinical practice, handed in her medical license, and became one of Australia's most vocal advocates for practitioner wellbeing and regulatory reform. You might know her from The Spectator, The Daily Declaration, and as co-founder of Australians for Science and Freedom.HERE ARE THE KEY INSIGHTS:1️⃣ The Public Protection Paradox – By silencing and harming doctors, regulatory bodies effectively harm the public. When practitioners are too afraid to speak or are strategically planning their exit from clinical work, patients lose. Workforce wellbeing isn't separate from patient care—it's the foundation of it.2️⃣ The Line in the Sand – Julie shares the moment she realized she couldn't stay silent. She had three choices: walk away quietly, continue practicing and hope she didn't get caught, or close her practice publicly and speak out. She chose the latter, despite the financial devastation (her family income halved overnight) and fear of regulatory retaliation.3️⃣ The Culture of Fear – We dive into how practitioners are shrinking their practices, deregistering entirely, and self-censoring out of fear. Julie shares why she ultimately surrendered her medical license—she realized AHPRA would likely come after her, and she didn't have capacity to fight that battle while doing advocacy work.4️⃣ Finding Your Tribe & Rebuilding Healthcare – Julie discusses the critical importance of community. After mandates were announced, she connected with 500 practitioners who were thinking the same way. She also shares her vision for a better system: grassroots health education, protecting social connections, and shifting from sick care to true preventative care.RESOURCES:* Australians for Science and Freedom: scienceandfreedom.org* The Collective Waitlist: therapistsrising.com/collective* Instagram: @dr.hayleykellyA NOTE FROM HAYLEY:This episode might be controversial. I knew that going in. But I believe we're at a point where the cost of silence is higher than the cost of speaking up. Practitioners are burnt out, shutting down, deregistering, and strategically planning their exits from clinical work. That's not a retention problem—that's a system problem. You don't have to agree with every position Julie holds. I don't either. But this conversation isn't about ideology. It's about the system we're all practicing inside, the weight it places on us, and what it costs to work within structures that often feel opaque, punitive, and misaligned with actual care.If even our most capable, thoughtful practitioners are planning their exit, something needs to change. And change starts with conversation.Thank you for listening with curiosity, compassion, and courage.SUBSCRIBE & REVIEW:If this episode showed you what's possible when you give yourself permission to build differently—or inspired you to rethink what scaling could look like in your practice—please take a moment to subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcasts!
In recovery, we don't heal alone — we heal together. Finding your tribe means finding the people who walk beside you, challenge you, call you on your BS, celebrate your wins, and remind you who you truly are. Your tribe isn't always your family. It's not always your old friends. It's the people who share your experience, speak your language, and help you grow — spiritually, emotionally, and honestly. Today we talk about how to recognize the people who belong on your journey… and how to gently release the ones who don't. No one trudges alone.

Family healing is one of the most challenging and rewarding paths of working with plant medicine. At some point on this path, you may find yourself in a place of sacred solitude. When old relationships are falling away or changing, but new ones haven't started to sprout yet. This can be a lonely place of feeling like you don't belong. That there is something wrong with you. That you will never find your people. That's simply not true. You can come to peace with your origin family, even if your relationships change. You can choose your family by embodying the values and vibration you want and attracting from that place of magnetism. It is not hard to make friends when you are confident and present in your authentic self. You can only elevate your relationships with others when you come to peace and love in relationship with yourself. When you face and feel the feelings handed down to you by your grandparents and your parents and everyone who came before. When you stop separating yourself from Nature and Spirit, and look in the mirror and see that God has been here inside and all around you the whole time. When you decide to believe a new truth. On this week's show, I'm sharing about healing the wounds of family. Deciding you can choose your family. And learning how to let go of limiting beliefs about the world and what matters through authentic, honest relationship. Healing the wounds of our ancestors, finding your tribe, and the power of love to outlast time and space. Send us a textWhat happens when the professional becomes the parent? Despite 14 years working in the disability sector, Paige Carter found herself completely lost when her son was diagnosed with autism at age two and a half. That moment sparked a powerful realization: if someone with her experience felt overwhelmed, how do families with no prior exposure to disability navigate this journey?Paige shares her family's remarkable story of discovery- how her son's diagnosis eventually led to recognizing autism and ADHD in her husband, daughter, and finally herself. With refreshing honesty, she describes this journey not as a burden but as "magic" that transformed her understanding of neurodiversity."Neurodivergent people, the way their brains operate, is just incredible," Paige explains, bringing a perspective that celebrates different ways of thinking rather than pathologizing them. As founder of Inclusive Oak, she's created the support system she desperately needed as a new autism parent- a blend of education, community, and connections she calls "the recipe for success."For parents feeling isolated or overwhelmed, Paige offers practical wisdom: find your tribe, even if that starts online; advocate confidently knowing you're the expert on your child; and recognize when you need rest without self-judgment. Her ADHD gives her "this never-ending energy source" when passionate about something, yet she's learning to honor her need to retreat and recharge when advocacy depletes her.The conversation vibrates with possibility as Paige discusses her expanding mission to make support accessible to all family members, not just mothers, at affordable rates without NDIS dependence. Her message resonates with hope: as more neurodivergent families connect and advocate collectively, we move closer to a world where neurodiversity isn't just accommodated but genuinely celebrated.Listen now to discover how finding your community can transform your neurodiversity journey from isolation to empowerment.Paige's Free Online Masterclass: https://mytherapyhouse.com.au/findingyourvoice/ danabaltutis.com, mytherapyhouse.com.au, https://mytherapyhouse.com.au/your-childs-therapy-journey/ https://www.danabaltutis.com/services

Think about the last time you laughed so hard with a friend that it felt like a weight was lifted off your shoulders. When was the last time you felt truly understood without having to explain yourself? These are the kinds of connections that can keep us grounded, even when life feels chaotic. Yet, for so many moms, it feels like friendships belong in the “someday” pile—the pile of things we'll get to once everything else is done. But let's be honest: when is everything ever done? What if finding your tribe isn't about adding something else to your to-do list but about enriching the life you're already living? What if it's about realizing that connection doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming—it just has to be intentional? Friendships aren't just a luxury for when you have extra time (does that even exist?). They're a lifeline, a source of energy and comfort, and they can help you be the best version of yourself—for you and everyone else who depends on you. This week, I'm going to discuss why it feels so hard to maintain friendships when you're a busy working mom and how building meaningful relationships doesn't have to be complicated. This week's podcast is Part 2 of last week's podcastIn this episode of The Wellness Matters Podcast, I had the chance to talk with my good friends, Erica Cordeiro and Kim Reed, about the importance of open conversations, building community, and the challenges of making friends as adults. We explore the desire for deeper connections, the exhaustion of surface-level interactions, and the significance of receiving compliments and acknowledging self-worth. Our trio also reflects on personal growth journeys and how focusing on self-work has led us to find our community. We also touch on the impact of the 'New Earth' on personal evolution and the changing dynamics of conversations in today's world. We delve into the concept of the 'New Earth' as an evolution of consciousness, emphasizing the shift from rigid thinking to a more feeling-based approach. This episode was next level for me. Our conversation went from one topic to the next, which felt so seamless and easy. We talked for a LONG TIME so I decided to break it up into two episodes (part two coming next week). In our journey of faith, we often encounter seasons of transition and growth. This discussion reminds us of the importance of building our tribe - a community of believers who share our values and support our spiritual journey. Just as Joshua sent spies into Jericho, we too must venture into new territories, both physically and spiritually. The story of Rahab teaches us about God's redemptive power and how He can use anyone, regardless of their past, for His divine purpose. As we navigate life's challenges, let's remember that isolation can be dangerous, but intentional connection with God and others can lead to tremendous growth. We're encouraged to be authentic in our relationships, understanding that true depth comes not from the length of time we've known someone, but from shared values and experiences.
