Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
Jorge Soler would make the San Francisco Giants' lineup better. But at what point does the asking price become too much? For Soler, it's probably not about average annual value. He should get ≥ $12 million a year and ≤ $18 million. So there's not a huge range there, and if the Giants are truly interested, they can likely agree on that front. However, as MLB Network's Jon Morosi reports, teams, including the SF Giants, are balking at Soler's desire for a third guaranteed year. Given Jorge Soler turns 32 on Feb. 25, it's not too surprising that the Giants and other teams are hesitant to hand out that guaranteed third year, and with Spring Training report week finally here, there's pressure on Soler and other free agents to make a decision soon. It's worth pointing out that ESPN, MLB Trade Rumors, and FanGraphs all predicted that Soler would land a three-year deal worth somewhere between $37.5 million and $45 million. However, the FanGraphs readers, with their crowdsourced submissions, had an average contract prediction of around 2.5 years, which sort of exemplifies where we stand now. The SF Giants love their club options, so something like 2/$33 million with a third-year team option could perhaps get a deal done.In other news, the Giants signed hard-throwing lefty Amir Garrett to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Garrett will ear $1.35 million if he makes the major league team. Left handed relief is something of a soft spot on the SF Giants' 40-man roster, and the erratic Garrett will enter camp firmly in the midst of the competition to join Taylor Rogers as another lefty in the major league 'pen.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Part Two of former Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman with Dave Lapham In The Trenches presented by First Star Logistics gets to what all Reds fans are asking after several trades before the start of the 2022 season. Will the Cincinnati Reds make noise in 2022? The Reds moved on from Tucker Barnhart, Eugenio Suarez, Jesse Winker, Sonny Gray, Nick Castellanos, Wade Miley, and Amir Garrett, leaving fans throwing in the towel before the season started. However, Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas remain, with Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, Tyler Stephenson, Tyler Naquin, and Nick Senzel being some of the names looking to step forward for David Bell as the Reds will look to surprise many in the National League. Brennaman discusses how the Reds will look to compete in the National League Central. Who are the teams to beat in the division? Will the changes prove to be better than expected this season and going forward? Along with talking about his favorite Reds team, Brennaman discusses the players and managers who hold a special place in his memory. This is a must-listen for any Reds fan as the MLB season gets started.
In the fourth installment of our 2022 MLB Preview Series, Cincinnati Reds fan Ryan Pacatte returns to the show for a comprehensive preview of the NL Central. Had Major League Baseball expanded its postseason to include six playoff teams in each league, the Reds would have made the playoffs in 2021. Over the winter, the Redlegs lost three big bats from their lineup, as Nicholas Castellanos signed with the Phillies, and the Reds traded Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez to the Mariners. They also lost pitchers Sonny Gray, Wade Miley, Amir Garrett and Michael Lorenzen. Ryan sets the table for the 2022 Reds, and he and Jack estimate how they might perform in 2022 (0:00 - 28:45). The Pittsburgh Pirates are in full-rebuild mode. What should baseball fans watch for from the Buccos this season (28:45 - 37:25)? The Chicago Cubs are also rebuilding. After gutting the heart of their order last year at the trade deadline, what happens next on the North Side (37:25 - 54:35)? After firing their manager Mike Schildt and ending the 2021 regular season as baseball's hottest team, what's the trajectory for the St. Louis Cardinals entering 2022? And how should Major League Baseball recognize Albert Pujols' final season (54:35 - 1:11:45)? The Milwaukee Brewers won 95 games a season ago; will they repeat as division champions (1:11:45 - END)? Episode complete with win total projections for each team.

Zack Greinke spent his first seven major league seasons with the Royals, the team that drafted and developed him, and now he'll be in Kansas City for season No. 19. The Royals signed Greinke to a one-year, $13 million deal this week, but that wasn't the team's only mound move. They also traded starter Mike Minor to the Cincinnati Reds for reliever Amir Garrett. Tim, Nick and Carlos will discuss the MLB lockout and what that means for the Cincinnati Reds. The guys evaluate the Reds keeping all 10 of their top non-tender candidates (Luis Castillo, Jesse Winker, Tyler Mahle, Tyler Naquin, Amir Garrett, Kyle Famer, Luis Cessa, Lucas Sims, Jeff Hoffman and Nick Senzel). They will also take a closer look at the Reds five minor league signings with invites to camp: Andrew Knapp, Trey Wingenter, Allen Córdoba, Trey Amburgey and Brandon Bailey.
Today is the Non-tender Deadline for MLB as the lockout looms on December 2nd and the Cincinnati Reds have a few players that some people see as candidates to be non-tendered. We talk about Amir Garrett, Tyler Naquin, Jeff Hoffman, and Aristides Aquino and why the Reds may actually keep them instead of moving on from them. We also look at Tyler Naquin, why he seems like a roster lock, and why Andrew McCutcheon could be an interesting platoon candidate with him.As Michael Lorenzen signed with the Los Angeles Angels, and many other free agency happenings went on, the Cincinnati Reds continued their status quo of little to no movement. This seems to allude to how they will approach today's non-tender deadline. with some players due to make raises, and some of those players making seemingly easy non-tender targets, we look at why none of them may be moved on from a the Reds have established a position of immutability.Let's pretend for a moment that the Reds do make a move and look at what Andrew McCutcheon could bring to the table as a Red. He would greatly improve Cincinnati's lineup against left-handed pitchers. Imagining also brings to light the reality of status quo, though, so lets also try to squint and see the positive side of Aristides Aquino being given the platoon job with Naquin and how he can improve.
