Introduction: Host Michael Rand has an early appreciation for Twins rookie Brooks Lee, who has the more RBI (eight) through six games of his career than any player in franchise history and who has the second-most hits (11) in that span, trailing only Kirby Puckett. Small sample sizes are dangerous, but Lee absolutely looks the part. Once (if) Royce Lewis gets healthy, can you imagine what these two players might do for the next several years? 9:00: Star Tribune Timberwolves writer Chris Hine joins Rand from Las Vegas to break down USA Basketball's camp and the upcoming Summer League. Anthony Edwards isn't shying away from his potential role in the Olympics and as a budding face of the NBA. Meanwhile, it's a huge offseason for several young Wolves players. 32:00: On Paul George and the feeling of being disrespected.

3-14-2023 Passed Ball Show. John opens up this show by declaring the combined Perfect Game thrown by team Puerto Rico against Israel during the World Baseball Classic as official and should be considered the twenty-fourth (24th) of all time in the history of baseball. John explains why it does not matter that four (4) pitchers were needed to finish the job and why it does not matter that the self imposed mercy rule was used to limit the game to eight (8) innings. Also, John gives reasons why the World Baseball Classic is not an exhibition and what he compares it to. John then talks about the decision made by the Las Vegas Raiders and Head Coach Josh McDaniels to sign Jimmy Garoppolo to be the team's starting quarterback. He explains why McDaniels has the right to put his stamp on the team he is ultimately going to take the blame for if they do not win over time. John then takes Tennessee Titans owner Amy Skunk Adams to task for her reasoning for firing General Manager Jon Robinson. She claimed the latter was fired because there is an expectation to win now. New GM Ran Carthon seems ready for a full blown rebuild, something completely contradictory to what caused Robinson his job. On today's “Saving Sports History” segment, John talks about the Stanley Cup Champion Canadian teams, Kirby Puckett, and Stephen Curry before mentioning the 1992 rape allegations against former Mets players Dwight Gooden, Vince Coleman, and Darryl Boston. If that had happened today, all three would have been suspended without the opportunity to prove their own innocence, and probably released from their contracts and blackballed from the league the same way Trevor Bauer was. Bauer has the right to work and should have a job as a Major League Baseball pitcher.

3-6-2023 Passed Ball Show. John opens up this show by declaring it is a bullshit show. He talks about how the Eastern NBA Conference is very top heavy and most of the best talent and overall teams once again reside in the Western NBA Conference. John then compares teams like the Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies to the likes of the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers, for a couple of reasons and questions whether the two latter teams can simply play their best basketball at the most opportune time. John then declares the six MLB teams who should be locks to make it to the postseason, not just in 2023, but for the distant future (ask him about one he conveniently left off). On Saving Sports History, John talks about Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Pete Gray, Willie Stargell, Kirby Puckett, and Shaquille O'Neal.

His clutch skills on the diamond, made him one of the best all around players in the game, until glaucoma robbed him of his career and set the lovable player on a dark path.

Plaaaaaaaay baaaaaaall!  Baseball season has started here in America and what better way to kick-off the season than by enjoying this episode of the podcast! Author John Rosengren stops by the show to discuss his latest book: "Classic Baseball: Timeless Tales, Immortal Moments." Joe and John cover just a few of the stories covered in John's latest classic. Come listen to this episode, pick up the book, and get ready for an upcoming summer filled with Baseball! Enjoy! About John Rosengren I once interviewed a woman shot in the head by hijackers and left for dead on the tarmac.  I raced my bike against Greg LeMond in South Africa (and beat him). I played a tennis match against the world's top-ranked wheelchair tennis player (and lost). I channeled a 330-pound, Samoan, retired NFL nose tackle who is gay (Esera Tuaolo, for his memoir). I played softball on snowshoes in the summertime (wood chips spread across the infield). I rapped a base hit off former Twins pitcher Rick Aguilera. I listened to a nurse tell me the story of prying a shotgun shell out of Ernest Hemingway's hand when he was intent upon killing himself. I profiled a woman who is a Roman Catholic priest. I attended a powwow with LGBTQ Native Americans. I interviewed a mortician in the room where she embalmed my father. I interviewed a 15-year-old boy in his hospital room after he tried to stop a school shooter. All in a few days' work, stretching back to 1981, when I began freelancing as a senior in high school, same time I got clean and sober. My work has won a couple dozen awards and been nominated for a National Magazine Award and a Pulitzer Prize (but didn't win either of those). Along the way, I have lived in Boise, Boston, Florence, London, Paris, and St. Paul. Today I'm at home in my native Minneapolis with my wife Maria, our two children, and a golden retriever named Maya. About Classic Baseball A collection of iconic, unbelievable, and intimate stories from baseball history that celebrate the enduring impact of the national pastime. Baseball—rooted as it is in tradition and nostalgia—lends itself to the retelling of its timeless tales. So it is with the stories in Classic Baseball, a collection of articles written by award-winning journalist John Rosengren and originally published by Sports Illustrated, The New Yorker, Sports on Earth, VICE Sports, and other magazines. These are stories about the game's legends—Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Josh Gibson, Bob Feller, Frank Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Kirby Puckett—and its lesser-knowns with extraordinary stories of their own. They cover some of the game's most famous moments, like Hank Aaron hitting No. 715, and some you've never heard of, like the time the Ku Klux Klan played a game against an all-Black team. Whether it be the story of John Roseboro forgiving Juan Marichal for clubbing him in the head with a bat, Elston Howard breaking down the Yankees' systemic racism to integrate America's team, or the national pastime played on snowshoes during July in a remote Wisconsin town, these are stories meant to be read and read again for their poignancy, their humor, and their celebration of baseball.   Thanks to Empire Toys for this episode of the podcast!
