North Dakota State is in week three of spring football and as the practices continue, it's not just for the players to get up to speed, but for the coaches as well. The Bison have four new staff members, including Devin Klieman, who was hired as the new safeties coach. It's a return to Fargo for Klieman, who's dad Chris, was the head coach at NDSU from 2014-18, winning four national championships during that span. Devin has been a graudate assistant at Kansas State the last three years, he discusses about interviewing for the job and what it meant to be hired at NDSU. Klieman also talks about the Bison safety position, which returns starters Cole Wisniewski and Sam Jung and highlights a couple of young players. The Bison Media Zone airs Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. on WDAY Xtra.
Tim Polasek's first coaching staff is starting to come into shape. This week Polasek announced the hirings of Devin Klieman, the son of former NDSU head coach Chris Klieman as the safeties coach and Will Johnson as the new cornerbacks coach. Each have been graduate assistants at their previous stops and will be making their position coaching debuts in the 2024 season. Polasek has another hire to make with longtime assistant and former standout player Tyler Roehl leaving to take the associate head coach and offensive coordinator job at Tennessee State. Roehl leaves Fargo after not being selected as the new Bison head coach that went to Polasek. Roehl's NDSU career began in 2004 as a player, then returned on Craig Bohl's staff in 2011. He was hired full-time by Klieman in 2014 to coach the fullbacks and tight ends and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019. The Forum's Jeff Kolpack and WDAY's Dom Izzo discuss the departure of Roehl and who could potentially replace him. They also talk about where each of the NDSU basketball teams sit at as the halfway mark of the Summit League season approaches. The Bison women sit at 5-1 in league play, while the men are at 2-4.
We've been asking all year if the Chiefs can flip a switch when the playoffs arrive and play their best football and we got a resounding answer in Saturday night's frozen tundra beatdown of the Dolphins. Cracked helmets and all, this team was almost flawless for the first time this year. Stan Weber helps us break down how the Chiefs have re-invented who they are. The Dallas Cowboys are in shambles after an utterly embarrassing loss to the Packers. And Chris Klieman and Lance Leipold are staying put at K-State and KU after Washington came calling to see if either would make a move to the Big Ten with the Huskies.
Local Sports this week Chiefs win. Enjoy their success as it can be fleeting, see Cowboys. NFL Recap. KU wins, KSU can't hold on. Liepold and Klieman staying put.

It's the Football Feast as the Chiefs head into a bye week with a 7-2 record atop the AFC as KC rolls to a 21-0 halftime lead against the Dolphins in Germany then rode an insanely great defensive performance to victory. Stan helps us set the table for the second half of the season. KSU coach Chris Klieman went for fourth and goal from the 4 yard line to try to beat Texas in OT and there's a lot more to this decision than the fourth and 4. KU does it on both sides of the ball dominating most of the night in Ames to beat Iowa State. The Clones never got the ball with a chance to tie. Mizzou, for the second year in a row, had a second half lead against the best program in America. We discuss putting this loss to Georgia in the rear view mirror and playing for a sensational season. Also, Sporting KC advances to the Western Conference semi finals after beating St. Louis 2-1 in a wild setting at Sporting Park.
Osborne only HS Fball team left standing in our area. Chiefs defense carries the day again. Chiefs fans need to accept what the team is and what their strengths are, otherwise going to miss out on the joy and journey of going back to back. KU with another huge win K-State loses as Klieman goes for it in OT. Why the move made sense based on the situation. What if the KSU kicking game was going well? Same decision? Huskers with bad loss. Pitt State falls KU and K-State men's basketball begins their seasons.

The Chiefs couldn't avoid the injury bug hitting NFL training camps. Defensive back Nazeeh Johnson, who had been rising up the depth chart, suffered a torn ACL and is lost for the season. On today's episode of SportsBeat KC, The Star's sports podcast, beat writer Jesse Newell discusses the impact of that injury and other topics. Johnson was one of five defensive backs selected by the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL Draft. He didn't play a defensive snap last season, but he did see reps this summer with the first-team defense, earning praise from head coach Andy Reid and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Also, although it's only been a few days of practice in pads, it's not too early to offer observations about who has stood out. Among those making a good early impression is undrafted running back Deneric Prince. After a break, we stay with football but switch teams: Kansas State coach Chris Klieman spent time with beat writer Kellis Robinett during Big 12 media days, and today you'll hear that conversation. Klieman discusses this season's prospects for the defending Big 12 champion Wildcats, including how K-State will adjust to losing star running back Deuce Vaughn and defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah (who's now with the Chiefs). One of the top college football stories in 2022 was authored by former North Dakota State head coach Chris Klieman at Kansas State. Klieman guided the Wildcats to a 10-3 record and a Big 12 Championship, as the Wildcats beat previously unbeaten TCU in the title game, earning a spot in the Sugar Bowl. K-State lost to Alabama that day 45-20. Klieman enters his fifth year in Manhattan with sky-high expecatations. The Wildcats were picked to finish second in the Big 12 this fall, right behind Texas. It's a year of transition in the Big 12 as the Longhorns and Oklahoma will leave after this season, but are welcoming BYU, Central Florida, Cincinnati and Houston into the league. Klieman talks about the 2022 season and what to expect this coming season. He also discusses his time in Fargo and how that set up success in the Big 12. Klieman also chats about his relationship with the man that hired him in Fargo, Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl.

Chris Klieman arrived at Kansas State in December of 2018 after winning four national titles in his five seasons at FCS-level North Dakota State. The athletics director who hired him at NDSU was Gene Taylor, who in the spring of 2017 became the new AD at K-State. Taylor went through the search process and kept coming back to Klieman, not just as a coach who would win football games in the Big 12, but one who could deftly take the reins from the legendary Bill Snyder, fit into the K-State culture and might, just might settle in at Kansas State for a very long time. Well, Klieman is four seasons into his time in Manhattan, his Wildcats won the 2022 Big 12 championship, and he just signed an eight-year new contract offered by Taylor that Klieman says will keep him in Manhattan for the rest of his coaching career. On top of all of that, Klieman is one of the more likable coaches you will ever meet, and he seems to understand how to navigate these changing times in college football. *** Tim Fitzgerald is a sports journalist who writes, does TV, radio, daily YouTube videos, and is a long-time podcaster. Day one was so rough for Ron DeSantis he's already announced his "Campaign Kickoff" will be next week in Iowa. It was only one day, but his reboot will matter. People are watching him early and it hasn't been good. We've got a much better reason to boycott Target than their pride sections... it's their official response to what's going on. Words matter and Target is clearly not interested in half of Americans shopping at their stores. After the Bud Light debacle, the parent company is offering a rebate that if you're a smart shopper, it equals free beer. And not just Bud Light, their other brands, too. Andy Reid commented about the NFL's new kickoff fair catch rule matching the college game and says if this league doesn't watch out, it will soon be flag football. Meanwhile, his star QB politely isn't commenting about his brother's legal troubles. And KSU Football coach Chris Klieman strolled into KC for a Catbacker event with a new contract, the Chiefs top draft pick and a Big 12 title ring. He's also flush with quarterbacks. Then, he dropped one of the best quotes of the year. We'll tell you what he said.

Did Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman sign a coach-for-life contract? Eight years, $44 million is about as long-term as it can get, and with the Wildcats becoming off a Big 12 championship season it seems like a bargain for the Wildcats. On today's SportsBeat KC, The Star's daily sports podcast, beat writer Kellis Robinett breaks down the deal and discusses not only the contract terms but where it ranks among Big 12 coaches and the statement Kansas State and Klieman made with the agreement. Also, Robinett provides the latest on the men's basketball transfer portal. K-State is being considered by former Kansas center Ernest Udeh. Who else do the Wildcats and Coach Jerome Tang have on the radar? The price for success in college sports can be expressed through coaches contracts. Kansas State is happily in the process of paying that price. After a football season led by Chris Klieman that included the first Big 12 championship in a decade, and a men's basketball season that had the Wildcats, picked last in the conference, that extended to the Elite Eight under first-year coach Jerome Tang, it's time for K-State to show its gratitude. Klieman and Tang are in line for extensions and raises that should lift them into the upper half of Big 12 salaries. “If you look at all of our salaries, we've typically been towards the bottom half of the Big 12,” K-State athletic director Gene Taylor told beat writer Kellis Robinett. “And that's where we compare ourselves. We don't really compare ourselves with the Big 10 and how the SEC is doing. How are we salary-wise for coaches and staff within the Big 12? I think from an owner's perspective, we want to be up in the upper half, if not better.” On today's SportsBeat KC, Robinett discusses Kansas State's next moves on the contract and salary front, and other topics relating to the Wildcats, including whether the 2022-23 year in sports was the best in school history. With no video, no motive and no real information on why an illegal alien, drug addicted, BLM, Pride Flag waving lunatic broke into Pelosi's house in a sanctuary city... it couldn't get stranger, right? Wrong. Now David DePape's own defense attorney seems to be on the side of the Pelosi's. You have to hear what this lawyer said to media and the signal it sent. In sports, everyone knows the Houston Astros cheated to win the World Series a few year ago. Now, it's Philadelphia, within the rules, that noticed Houston's game three starter tipping his pitches. So funny. Five homers later the Phils had a 7-0 win. And Kansas State has a HUGE game against Texas Saturday night in Manhattan and coach Chris Klieman is staying mum on which quarterback he's using. Normally, two quarterbacks is a sign you aren't good enough. In this case, Klieman could use them like chess pieces to win the Big 12.
