A flesh-eating parasite known as the New World screwworm has been detected in U.S. livestock for the first time in decades, putting producers across North America on alert. While Canadian officials say the risk here is low, the parasite can burrow into living tissue and has a long history of devastating livestock herds once it gains a foothold. To tell us more about the threat and how Canada is preparing, Evan is joined by Leigh Rosengren, Chief Veterinary Officer with the Canadian Cattle Association.
Ryan Wrecker kept the momentum rolling through the third hour of The Tara Show, blending straight-talking life advice, heavy military messaging, and a critical deep dive into public health. The Common Sense Cowboy: The hour kicked off with author Patrick Dorinson sharing wisdom from his book, The Common Sense Cowboy's Guide to Life. Dorinson delivered a humorous, cynical take on the modern political class, urging listeners to value hard-knocks wisdom over institutional degrees and emphasizing personal accountability.Hegseth's Blunt Warning to Cadets: Wrecker then dissected Pete Hegseth's viral speech to a graduating class of military cadets. Hegseth explicitly warned them, "You are not..." standard corporate citizens or social influencers—emphasizing that their singular, brutal job is to lead men in lethal combat, not to serve as a petri dish for modern administrative or ideological experiments. The New Threat of Germ Warfare: Closing out the segment, Wrecker brought on infection prevention specialist Rayne Guest, CEO of ArrowClean. Fresh off national media appearances discussing recent Hantavirus outbreaks, Guest detailed the critical failure points in modern sanitation infrastructure and exposed the corporate reliance on toxic chemicals over sustainable, ultra-fast pathogen killers.

Gas goes up 50 cents in a single day… and nobody really questions it anymore.Meanwhile, headlines are pushing a “backyard chicken problem” based on 34 cases across the entire country. In this episode, we break down both—what's real, what's noise, and why it feels like the focus is always in the wrong place. On top of that, real progress on the cabin build: two full sides wrapped in metal, a few mistakes, a few do-overs, and a lot of figuring things out as we go.This one's a mix of boots-on-the-ground reality and stepping back to look at the bigger picture most people don't question.☕ Coffee: Food Forest Farms (code LOTS10)
On April 21st, US Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins rocked the North Coast with a Tweet: She claimed that a Los Angeles-area local water district, the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, wanted to purchase the Eel River dams to operate them for hydroelectric power and provide irrigation. The Water District has since walked back Sec. Rollin's Tweet, claiming that it had no firm plans and its interest was, at present, only exploratory. Now, Congressman Huffman is involved and livid—rightfully so, as he has worked hard on a solution that would work for both parts of his district—and has initiated an investigation into this affair. Alicia Hamann and Scott Greacen of Friends of the Eel River join the show to discuss whether the public should take this threat seriously and what can be done to keep dam removal on track.Support the show

Hussein Al Zweidi's two-year detention in Israeli prisons were some of the hardest days of his life. He described a practice of physical and sexual abuse against prisoners, as well as poor conditions and ill-treatment. Even after his release, he suffers from deep emotional scars and severe fatigue, he said. Now, he fears that an Israeli law will deal a bigger blow to the detainees he left behind. The Knesset passed a bill at the end of March that mandates the death penalty exclusively for Palestinians convicted of terrorism in military courts. About 10,000 detainees are in Israeli prisons, many under "administrative detention", without charge or trial. This includes children. Since 1967, an estimated one million Palestinians have been incarcerated by Israel, according to human rights groups. It's for this reason that April 17 marks Palestinian Prisoners' Day, an annual event to raise awareness about an issue that sits at the heart of the Palestinian cause and the struggle of living under occupation. In this episode of Beyond the Headlines, host Nada AlTaher examines the death penalty law and what it could mean for thousands in Israeli jails. We hear from former detainee Hussein Al Zweidi, Miriam Azem, international advocacy co-ordinator at Adalah Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights, and Knesset member Ofer Cassif, from the opposition party Hadash.

Banking executives know their industry is being disrupted. What they don't know is how much of their balance sheet they've already lost control of. According to Accenture, more than $200 trillion in global bank deposits and loans are now at risk, and that threat isn't coming from another bank. It's coming from stablecoins, AI agents that can automatically optimize finances, and platforms that can quickly move cash, often outside the traditional banking system. Today's guest is Mike Abbott from Accenture. His team's new report on the top banking trends for 2026 reveals some uncomfortable truths. Seventy percent of IT spending still goes to maintaining outdated systems. Margin compression could reduce US bank pre-tax income by 22%. And many of those loyal customers who've stayed with their bank for seven years? The research calls them "lazy loyalists." The real question for banking leaders isn't whether this shift is happening, but how much of the balance sheet they'll still control when it does. Mike joins us to discuss how banks can respond to threats moving faster than their modernization efforts.
Populations of the Greater Sage Grouse have dropped by 80 percent over the last 60 years. That’s because the iconic bird depends on high desert sagebrush for food and habitat. And that habitat has been threatened for decades by wildfire, human activity and invasive species. A historic agreement that came together in 2015 to protect these birds and keep them off the endangered species list has helped turn that trend around. But now, a potential lithium mine could blow up the whole deal. OPB “Oregon Field Guide” producer Cassandra Profita fills us in on the details and you can see the video and article she recently produced about sage grouse here. We also hear from journalist Ashley Ahearn, who created an 8-episode podcast series called “Grouse” all about the birds and what they can teach us about compromise and life in rural America. On March 20th, 1995, the Tokyo subway system was flooded with sarin nerve gas in a coordinated terrorist attack by the religious cult Aum Shinrikyō. Led by the charismatic new-age guru, Shoko Asahara, the well-funded and technologically ambitious Aum organization manufactured and deployed chemical weapons in an attempt to bring about the end of the world. In the chaos that followed, 13 people were killed, thousands were injured, and the international community shuddered at the possibility of future attacks by fringe political groups. I sat with ex-FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke tonight and we talked through the assassination of Charlie Kirk. What stood out most wasn't politics. It was Robin, a dad himself, saying the first thing he thought of was Kirk's children — now growing up without their father. A 31-year-old kid himself in so many ways, gunned down for talking. This wasn't about agreeing or disagreeing with him. It was about the simple right to stand up, speak, ask questions, and argue. That's what Charlie built his life around — conversation. You don't have to like him to see the danger in silencing that with a bullet. Robin said something that cut through: assassinations like this aren't usually about ideology — they're about rage, broken problem-solving, people looking for notoriety. And that's what makes this scarier. It means the next shooter doesn't need a political cause. Just an excuse. If talking becomes deadly, what's left for the rest of us? We need to remember how to argue without killing, how to disagree without dehumanizing. Because if a voice can be erased this easily, the fear that follows will silence a lot more than one man. The Grand Hypocrisy Buffet. Welcome. Today we're taking a culinary tour of the most exclusive, most decadent buffet in all of Washington D.C. It's not at the Willard Hotel. It's not in some Georgetown brownstone. It's at the mayor's office, and the only thing on the menu is a heaping, steaming plate of piping hot hypocrisy with a side of crow. The chef? President Trump. The guest? Mayor Muriel Bowser. And the special of the day? Her words from just a few weeks ago, pureed, roasted, and served back to her with a garnish of her own principles. We're talking about the stunning, breathtaking, “you-gotta-be-kidding-me” pivot...See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
