Thirty years ago this month saw the release of the directorial debut of Robert DeNiro with this touching coming-of-age tale set in the violent world of organized crime in the Bronx in the 1960's. The story focuses on the young Colagero (played at different points by Francis Capra and Lillo Brancato) who watch grow up from the ages of 9 to 17 as his parents struggle to raise him right. His father is a bus-driver played by DeNiro and the other major influence in his life becomes the local mob boss Sonny played by Chazz Palminteri who also wrote this film's screenplay which was an adaptation of his own autobiographical stage play of the same name. Of course Colagero is torn between these two powerful figures in his life as he potentially drawn to a life of crime while also starting to fall for a girl from his local school by Taral Hicks. And what results is a sometimes violent, often funny, and always touching modern classic - let's head back to the Bronx!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Welcome back to Hell Has an Exit featuring LILLO BRANCATO! For part 2 of the two-part series. In Part 1, Lillo and Bryan discussed what it was like for Lillo becoming an overnight sensation. It wasn't long before accompanying fame proved too much for the new star. His addictive behaviors grew along with his new fame. As his addiction worsened – encompassing alcohol, cocaine, crack and heroin – it became obvious to to everyone around him; there were unsuccessful attempts at interventions as he grappled with the ‘demon' that overtook him. Then came the fateful night in the Bronx, when Lillo and friend Steven Armento were the two were attempting to break into an old friend's house to score money for drugs. The two were confronted by a neighbor and off-duty cop, 28-year-old Daniel Enchautegui who heard glass breaking. Daniel was fatally shot by Steven Armento. Lillo Says: ‘There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about that night and how I wish I could change its outcome. I can't – so now I'm living every single day, trying to give back.' But he also got clean in prison and has accumulated 15 years clean and sober. Lillo does work and service to help youth and addicts get and stay sober themselves. Lilli Brancato has a series of films to be released, Sleep Head which is set for 2023 where he plays a man in hell, I'm On Fire with Meadow from the Sopranos and a film just released Made In Mexico. Lillo was discovered while swimming at Jones Beach by talent scouts who were searching for Robert De Niro look-alikes. It was his impersonation of De Niro from Taxi Driver (1976) that won him the role of young Calogero. His younger brother, Vincent Brancato, had a small uncredited part in A Bronx Tale (1993). Vincent was one of the boys who jumped onto the back of the bus driven by Robert De Niro. Vincent was the one closest to the screen. Lillo is a family friend and a great man! Episode 7 RICHIE KRUTCH, THE GODFATHER OF PAHC Richie Mancuso of Wisdom in Chains, better known as Richie Krutch takes us down memory lane in the early 90's NEPA hardcore scene. From house party shows while in high school, to the infamous Airport Music Hall in Allentown,PA and 100s of nazis at shows, Richie walks us through the beginning of Krutch, one of the most important Pennsylvania Hardcore bands, that would lay the foundation in the Keystone State for so many other bands, including Rich's current band Wisdom In Chains. Echoing previous guests' thoughts on that era of hardcore, we hear more on how bands networked to play out of their own scenes. Krutch would be a standard bearer for PAHC traveling out of state every weekend, and would eventually even garnish attention abroad. It is a great conversation with plenty of detail into the early days of Krutch and many of the great shows and venues of the era like Sea Sea's in Moosic, PA. This episode lays the foundation for much of the friendships that still exist over 25 years later, that explains how alot of the first connections amongst PAHC began. Richie is a Union Concrete Laborer and travels every day via bus from the Poconos to NYC, he has been doing this for over 25 years now. He still manages to write/record/ play shows and tour with Wisdom In Chains. He also runs the Post America Podcast with fellow bandmates Chris Mav and Jotham Oliver. He is also a part of Fastbreak Records and Crucified Straight Edge Clothing. He is a paragon in the PAHC community and is beloved across the world. His wit and calm demeanor and sense of humor has brought alot of attention to recent editions of the Post America Podcast under the subtitle "Voices From Quarantine" . He recently had rapper/actor Slaine, Lillo Brancato ("C" in Bronx Tale) Freddy Madball, Scott Vogel, Jami Morgan and many more. You may know him as Calogero, but his name is Lillo Brancato. He became an overnight celebrity as a teenager when he starred in “A Bronx Tale” with Robert DeNiro. Not only could I feel a connection to the character he was portraying, but there was also a physical resemblance between the two of us and there there still is. He had a role on The Sopranos as well. Much has changed since his days as a movie star. He spent 10 years in prison and overdosed on heroin in Riker's Island, while awaiting trial for murder. He talks about how he overcame his drug addiction, his new addiction working out, and his mutual respect for black women.
Mario sits down for a fascinating chat with Actor Lillo Brancato who's life story is almost too crazy to believe. From how Lillo got his start alongside Robert De Niro in 'A Bronx Tale' to how he ended up in prison for 8 years, Lillo shares his incredible story of acting, fame, drugs, addiction, crime, and how he's now turned his life around and is helping others! Given when In Ice Cold Blood premiered -- April 1st -- you might forgive me for thinking it was Oxygen's PR team tryna prank me. And it...might still be that, actually! But it's a pretty long con, if so, since we got screeners, and based on the first two episodes, guest Eve Batey and I are kind of about it: it's an interesting niche in terms of the crimes covered; the talking-heads and interrogation footage are, while nothing groundbreaking, used well; and the production chose its topics smartly. The only issue we have with IICB is...Ice-T himself. And it's not that he's bad; it's that we're not sure this is the right show for him. We're very sure Mysteries & Scandals isn't the right show for Soledad O'Brien; we like her, but the writing, oo-fah. S01.E06 delves into the lethal falls from grace of Johnny Lewis, Lillo Brancato, and Ricardo Medina...if we can use "delve" to describe shallow 12-minute segments larded with platitudinous interstitials and hysteric sound design.
