Join Rahul and Ben for their conversation with Canadian trial lawyer, Paul Miller, who shares the fascinating account of his effort to find justice for Canadian diplomats impacted by Havana Syndrome. Paul explains the mounting evidence showing that Canadian and American diplomats posted in Cuba, England, Russia, Vietnam, and China have been targeted by weapons that use microwave or similar technology that is invisible but can cause brain damage, leading to a variety of life-long injuries and symptoms. The story is somewhere between science fiction and spy novel, but much more troubling because the human victims are real people, including diplomats and their families. About Paul Miller https://hshlawyers.com/ “I became a personal injury lawyer because I wanted to ensure that people, when devastated by injuries had access to not only benefits and compensation, but access to the courts in order to seek out justice for injuries they have suffered.” A dedicated advocate for people who have suffered personal injuries, Paul has 20 years of experience involving cases of defective products and medical devices and fighting for those denied justice. Paul has proven experience with high profile cases including serving as co-counsel for Canadian Diplomats in Cuba affected by Havana Syndrome, co-counsel representing Canadian Veterans affected by Mefloquine, co-counsel representing B.C. in its class action lawsuit against opioid drug companies, co-lead counsel for the victims of the 2005 Air France crash at Toronto's Pearson airport, and as representative for 23 Canadians involved in litigation surrounding the events of September 11, 2001. His passion for helping those wronged by negligence led to his dedicated work on the MK Airlines Halifax Plane Crash, TVM Litigation, and presently, the Ethiopian Airline Crash, Hernia Mesh Litigation and Essure. A Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation, Paul has been nominated twice for Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers and recognized in Best Lawyers for his work in Product Liability Litigation. He's a past board member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (2004–2006) and a current board director with the US-based organization Public Justice. Paul is an avid golfer. When not tirelessly working on cases or spending quality time with his wife and four children, you'll likely see him out on the green. NYPD officers who've been serving in Afghanistan are getting pretty violent, domestically, and the Unit has to race against a *gasp* journalist to get to the bottom of what's going on in this week's Ripped from the Headlines edition of SVU. The Army are very bad, doctors are huge cowards, and journalists may or may not be bottom feeders in this screed where no cows are sacred and no army wife is safe. And before you entertain the conciliatory notion that at least no actors were harmed in the making of this episode, Goliath marked the end of yet another child actor's on-screen career, and it seems unlikely that it was due to his performance, rather owing to the exceptionally dark things to which he was meant to see and react.Sources:Ripped from my headlines - Mark Benjamin, SalonThe Dark Side of Lariam - David Kohn, CBS NewsNeuropsychiatric Outcomes After Mefloquine Exposure Among U.S. Military Service Members - Angelia A. I can't remember where I found out about your show, but am I glad I did. I wanted to contact you today for two reasons. First I'm a currently serving member of the CAF. I would like to talk about a few things that have been going on that has been bothering me. Last year the CAF put through a policy that changed military writing in that we were not allowed to use He/Him, She/Her in military writing and Personnel Evaluation Reports. Last month email signature formats were changed and pronouns were added if you felt comfortable adding them. I didn't and I refuse to add them until they make it mandatory and if they do I plan on putting in something very obscure. The pandemic response has been pretty strict in my unit. We wear masks at all times in all buildings and are supposed to wear the masks outside while on base. We were told to wear them in military vehicles even if we are the only ones in the vehicles, which is absolutely stupid. There has been an entire operation across the CAF called Op Vector. On of the stated missions of Op Vector is to reduce vaccine hesitancy. They also claim to be informing soldiers so they can give informed consent, but they parrot Pharmaceutical companies talking points, which I pointed out and reminded the group about the Mefloquine incident. There are a few people that I know of who said they didn't want the vaccine that were coerced into saying they would get it. Comments by officers like, "You tell the three people who don't want it to read the medical brief." and "The one person who doesn't want the vaccine can come see me in my office in the morning." That was enough to get most people to take it. We have been told that if we don't take the vaccine we will lose allowances because we are not deployable and can't go out in the field. There is a major lack of scientific understanding while claiming to follow the science. They claim unvaccinated individuals will put missions at risk and can't be allowed to go overseas but if everyone but one person has the vaccine then it's only the one person at risk but seeing how most are vaccinated herd immunity would hold. I've taken enough of your time. My second reason was to recommend a couple of books for the book club. The Law by Frederic Bastiat and No Treason by Lysander Spooner. I've included booth ebooks with this email. Have a great day and keep up the great work. Subject ResulFrom DalHi guys, I heard about the resul march on your show and after looking at the sign up form I noticed there is a section for team, so I was wondering if I can join your team. I believe I saw the owne Oshkos Island retreat in the list so I figured that was you guys. A little bit about me, I'm in the air force and in 2018 did the full work up training for the Nijmegen march, unfortunately I didn't end up making the final team since there were quite a few people doing the training and only a small team was going. I did however complete two months of work up, finishing with two back to back 40km+ days of marching which I was quite proud to have competed. The work up training was a great experience and really got me in shape. These kind of events are great since they create a goal to work towards. I haven't decided how many km I'm going to do yet, I don't think I'll attempt the 160 this year but I think I'll try at least 50+ in total. Maybe 160 next year with more work up. Anyway thanks for letting me know about this march and putting the challenge out there. Agent Orange, Mefloquine, PCB's, ... Soldiers are often exposed to toxic, and even lethal substances with the full knowledge of their superiors. This puts the Government on the hook, and they cover their ass every single time. Deny, Deny, Deny.... Here is how to know if you have Mefloquine poisoning, and what to do about it. Mefloquine is also known as Lariam, Tafenoquine, Krintafel, and Arakoda. Dizziness. Vertigo. Paresthesias. Visual disturbances. Gastroesophageal and intestinal problems. Nightmares. Insomnia. Sleep apnea. Anxiety. Agoraphobia. Paranoia. Cognitive dysfunction. Depression. Personality change. Suicidal thoughts. These symptoms are not “side effects”. They are symptoms of poisoning by a class of drug that is neurotoxic and that injures the brain and brainstem. This poisoning causes a disease, and this disease has a name: Chronic quinoline encephalopathy — also known as quinism. In Episode 7 of the DAV Podcast we tackle some toxic exposure topics and tips on filing claims related to toxic exposures. Plus we take a deeper look at Mefloquine, a drug widely prescribed to U.S. Service Members, and the drug’s growing list of long-term effects.
Mefloquine (Lariam) was an anti-malarial pill widely used by the military in the 1990’s and 2000’s that was known to case severe neurological and psychiatric symptoms, earning the FDA’s “black box” waring in 2013. Some veterans are now struggling to manage these symptoms, sometimes mirroring PTSD, and obtain disability compensation for this exposure. Join CCK attorneys and our special guest Dr. Remington Nevin, a leading expert on mefloquine poisoning and a veteran himself, as we discuss the history of its use, and potential service connection for veteran suffering from its effects. This episode of the Posh Corps Podcast investigates Peace Corps' use of the anti-malarial drug Mefloquine. This story is the third segment in The Reform Series, a four-part series about Peace Corps reform efforts. Mefloquine, also known by the brand name Lariam, is an anti-malarial drug that has been prescribed to Peace Corps Volunteers since 1989. Mefloquine is effective at preventing malaria, but some believe that the adverse side effects of the drug may be just as dangerous as malaria itself. Sara Thompson served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Burkina Faso from 2010 to 2012. She experienced serious adverse side effects of Mefloquine use during service, and the side effects did not end when she stopped taking the drug.
Detainees held by the United States government at the Guantanamo Bay prison have been administered very high doses of the drug Mefloquine, according to a new report from Seton Hall Law School. While the drug is a powerful anti-malarial, it also has a number of adverse side effects, which include hallucinations, paranoia and depression. On today’s Underreported segment Mark Denbeaux, one of the reports authors and director of the Seton Hall Law Center for Policy & Research, discusses why administration of the drug to detainees (at five times the regular dosage) is controversial.
