What is the culture of your organization? It's a fair question and can be puzzling. We attribute an unengaged workforce or misalignment of values to the culture. Yet, we seem to fall short of building the culture we want. Mario Moussa and Derek Newberry are the authors of The Culture Puzzle: Harnessing the Forces That Drive Your Organization's Success. They share with Kevin that, too often, we think of culture as an afterthought. We share our vision, build the team, and then create the culture. However, culture happens when you put the people together. Culture is about the stories. Culture is dynamic and fluid and can change overnight (just think back to March 2020). They share the four forces that drive culture: vision, interest, habit, and innovation. They also recognize that anyone can influence culture. In this episode, Mario and Derek discuss Anthropology and organizational culture. Misconceptions about culture. 4 forces that drive culture. Thoughts about culture in a post pandemic world. This episode is brought to you by… From Manager to Remarkable Leader, Kevin's Flagship workshop based on his proven leadership model.   This episode, Lucinda talks to award-winning author, management consultant, keynote speaker, and executive educator, Mario Moussa. In his new book, 'The Culture Puzzle: Find the Solution, Energize Your Organization', Mario describes a step-by-step process for creating sustainable business cultures. Mario joins Lucinda to discuss his process, and to explain why redesigning culture should be at the forefront of every organisation's thinking, going forward. Key Takeaways Many think culture remains static when implemented, but it is constant flux - always adapting and changing as the business moves and grows. Start having conversations about how you would ideally like to work with others, defining your critical values, and crucially, listen to the responses. Additionally, listening is key. When forces in any branch of life (organisations, society, workplaces) clash, they push against each other and impede progress on either side. Furthermore, this can lead to a stasis - a stalemate. Lastly, the three basic needs we all have as people in the workplace are to be connected to others, to have meaningful work, and to be recognised for that work.

Have you been tuning into The Soul Purpose Leadership Podcast this quarter? We're bringing you a different way of looking at leadership and life and today we're back with another episode about The Conqueror Approach: The Vision of What's Possible & the Truth Behind Self-Mastery with Moussa Mikhail. Moussa Mikhail is a submarine Navy veteran and the host of The Conqueror Approach Podcast about a journey of self-mastery, mind, body, spirit, and finances which has been streamed in 30 countries to date! As an author and coach, he has dedicated his life to spreading the principles of mastery and empowering others to live their most authentic and highest potential. On today's episode, we discuss military life and mental health. We also discuss the vision of what's possible (leaders, this one's for you!). “Everything that I want to create starts with me,” says Moussa, on the vital importance of self-mastery. What is self-mastery? We break it down into tangible, practical language to help you start your shift, including the power of accountability - surrounding yourself with those people who will hold you up and have the hard conversations with you. Yep, self-mastery doesn't happen alone! We also chat resistance, avoidance, and “counting the cost” - it's scary, but worth it! As Moussa says, “What am I missing out on; what am I not getting to experience because of this fear?” Take a moment and reflect on that question yourself. And then when you're done, tune into Episode 64 of The Soul Purpose Leadership Podcast: The Conqueror Approach: The Vision of What's Possible & the Truth Behind Self-Mastery with Moussa Mikhail! How can we create a culture where it's okay to talk about mental health and isolation?!  It takes a community to succeed! Moussa Mikhail lived on a Navy submarine where 150 people had to share 90 beds. Talk about uncomfortable! Right after Moussa left the military, his friend, who struggled to adapt to life on the submarine, killed two people and then himself. This incident and all that lead up to it highlighted how the Navy neglected the mental health struggles that people dealt with. And it was this incident that propelled Moussa to learn about and advocate for mental health support.

Was ist passiert? Was ist passiert?

See how you can get involved at kickitout.org. Saints made some changes this week. They changed formations, changed player positions, changed their recent run in the league (it no longer just has LLLLL) and so we changed up the matchday routine too. This week I jumped on Mike Smales YouTube Channel to watch the match with him and Jack (You can get the channel here). It was a 4:30am kickoff for me, so I hadn’t even had a sip of coffee before kickoff. But, as I injected the caffeine, Taki injected some life into our performance and put us ahead. Chelsea leveled the score from the penalty spot, but overall it was a wonderful match to watch, especially with the company of Mike, Jack, and the people in the comments saying I look like Johnny Sins. Anyway, getting to actually see and watch a match with other humans was great, even if it was via YouTube, and it was also a lot of fun to get to chat with Mike about the match afterward and give some praise to Minamino, Djenepo, Salisu, and Ralph. Joshua Baker is simply one of the most impressive journalists out there working today. You may know him for his current podcast series with the BBC, I’m Not a Monster, or his related documentary Return from ISIS. The two follow his attempts to track down and understand Samantha, the woman who took her family to live with ISIS in Syria. If you’ve not yet listened to I’m Not a Monster, do give it a go, it’s incredible from the start. Listening to the first episode, I was walking in the snow in Berlin and it was -15C, and I stayed out longer in such extreme conditions, so I could reach the end of the first episode, that’s how riveting it is. Joshua Links I'm not a Monster Podcast: https://podfollow.com/1540251892 https://www.instagram.com/joshbakerfilm https://www.twitter.com/joshbakerfilm Andrew Links http://twitter.com/andrewgold_ok http://instagram.com/andrewgold_ok http://youtube.com/andrewgold1 http://patreon.com/andrewgold http://andrewgoldpodcast.com It begins by explaining minute by minute what it was like for Joshua to be attacked and bombed by ISIS, fracturing his back in an explosion that destroyed that left nothing of an entire street. Then, we hear audio footage of a young American boy being taught to assemble and use a suicide bomb. The kid explains how he would lure American soldiers by asking for help, before pulling the string. Now, I didn’t want to go into too much detail, because I want you to be able to listen to this full podcast without real spoilers, and to be able to then fully enjoy I’m Not a Monster afterwards. I was fascinated by Joshua from a journalistic point of view, because the one thing I always said was that I’ll do anything, and I’ve done stuff over the years in dangerous places – but I would never go near ISIS or anyone who might behead me. It’s just not worth the gain, so we talk a lot in this one about his experience literally being blown up by ISIS and surviving by the skin of his teeth – and then what it means to be doing this kind of journalism. That said, we do talk a bit towards end about the characters in the series, so I’ll give you a little run down without any spoilers, all stuff you know from the beginning of episode one. Sam is an American mother who took her kids to Syria, and wants to come back. She claims she was tricked into going there by her husband Moussa, but Joshua doesn’t entirely trust her, as her story doesn’t always check out. Joshua does track down a woman called Tsuad who was bought as a slave by Sam and Moussa during their time in Syria – and Tsuad speaks nicely about Sam, so I ask Joshua about that at the end. There is about nine minutes of bonus chat in this episode for patrons – get that on patreon.com/andrewgold. I’ll try to get Josh to come to my weekly Discord chat room event, they’ve been great so far – just find the link in the show notes.

Darrin: I'd like to ask you Feras Moussa, what is the biggest risk?   Feras Moussa  Yeah, I'll say there's two I'm gonna answer to two risks. Right? For me, personally, I'm one of them is just kind of really seeing what happens with COVID. And the government stimulus, right? Or deals of you know, I mean, our we've collected a lot of money, these properties, but that's been because of the stimulus. Right? So really seeing, you know, what happens around that situation around evictions, all of that, right? And is the government to help kind of, you know, bail out tenants or not? Right, that was definitely something top of mind. And, you know, that kind of segues to my second risk, which is cash is king, you know, and all these properties cash is king and, you know, we make sure we have significant reserves, right. And even at the company level, I mean, we've been doubling down and just, you know, investing back in the company, right, we're in growth mode and doubling down and reinvesting reinvesting, but just again, making sure there's enough cash for everything. Right. So, I'd say those are my two biggest risks and some things I'm you know, just kind of very conscious of and, you know, continue to think about so.
