Today we welcome D.C. United's Head Coach, Hernán Losada. Hernán is currently the youngest manager in the MLS. We begin the episode by speaking about Hernàn's beginnings and how he fell in love with the sport of football (or should I say, ‘'soccer''). Hernán then shares with us his story of how he made it through the ranks and dropped out of university to pursue his ambitions of becoming a professional footballer. After impressing scouts in Europe, Hernán packed his bags to leave South America and quickly found himself playing professionally in Belgium. We then speak about some setbacks and challenges he experienced during his career as a player and how goal setting helped him overcome these difficult periods, particularly when going through injury spells. Hernán then takes us through his transition of becoming a coach, his coaching philosophy and what managers he currently looks up to. Having an excellent awareness of the mental side of sport, Hernán gives us his thoughts about the types of psychological qualities he looks for in academy players and footballers when scouting for new players. He also provides us insight on what happens behind the scenes in the dressing room at half time and of the importance to not overload players with information during this crucial period of the game. Hernán also shares with us the realities of working in a high pressured job, being a head coach of a professional football club and how he goes about coping with this. We finish the episode by asking Hernán the questions you had for him. It was a true privilege to speak with such a high profile professional, a truly insightful episode. Thank you for coming on Hernán, it was a pleasure to speak with you.

He's most famous for coaching the US twice, from 1998-2006, leading the team to their best finish in a World Cup Finals, when the US went to the quarterfinals in the 2002 tournament and also most recently in 2016, when he took over from Jurgen Klinsmann and was unable to lead the US to qualification for this year's tournament. It was the first time the US didn't make the World Cup in 30 years and we'll get into why Arena believes we didn't make and where the national team program should go from there. Arena has won 5 Major League Soccer titles and has been named MLS Coach of the Year 3 times. We've been at this for 11 months, through preseason, opening day, the dog days of summer, the playoff push and more than a month of postseason action. After all that, the 2016 Major League Soccer season comes down to two teams without a championship to their name: Toronto FC and the Seattle Sounders. MLS Cup at BMO Field will be lit, as the kids say, but will it be as incredible as the Eastern Conference Championship? The guys aren't so sure after TFC and the Montreal Impact played out a playoff series for the ages, culminating in a wild, back-and-forth, heart-attack inducing second leg that had the guys gasping for air. How'd the Reds come back after another early blow from their norther rivals? Why didn't the Impact mark (like, at all) on set pieces? Is Sebastian Giovinco alright or is there an injury issue to watch the rest of the way? Who has the edge on Dec. 10 when the Sounders travel to Ontario hoping to spoil the party? In the second segment, buckle in for half an hour of new US national team head coach Bruce Arena, who joined Andrew and David for an exclusive interview that you can also watch above. Arena explains how the transition from Jurgen Klinsmann went down from his perspective, lays out the immediate future of the program, evaluates the player pool and task at hand and even manages to reveal a few new nuggets along the way, like which European team offered him a job in the wake of the 2006 World Cup. In the mailbag, Matt gives his take on MLS Coach of the Year, won by FC Dallas manager Oscar Pareja, and listeners give their take on the playoffs so far and the MLS Cup matchup to come.

We are delayed by a day, but don't worry, Filibuster is back. We start off by talking about the MLS Cup Playoffs and with the New England Revolution vs. New York Red Bulls. We talk about whether or not this series matched our expecations, Tim Cahill replacing Bradley Wright-Phillips, and the tactics of the two teams. We then move into Seattle Sounders vs. LA Galaxy, and wonder how the Sounders lost that series and take a look at the performances overall. We close by talking about MLS Cup and who we think (and hope) will win. We then talk about the D.C. United stadium plan and the DC Council for a long time, including using such words as "supplemental budget" and "first reading." We try to walk you through what actually happened yesterday and what it means for the team. We then talk about the MLS Best XI, which features two D.C. United players in Bill Hamid and Bobby Boswell, as well as talking about MLS Coach of the Year Ben Olse. Finally, we end the show with some Goat or Fox on Jared Jeffrey, Samuel Inkoom, and Eddie Johnson. Give it a listen!
