A promising first half and an epic collapse in the second half led to a 3-3 draw with FC Dallas. Sporting Kansas City returned to their losing ways on Saturday night in a staid, depressing, and rather familiar feeling performance losing 2-0 to LAFC. LAFC was the 2nd in a row of very solid defensive opponents that do not care that much about possession and unlike Minnesota last week, did not relax once up 2-0 and gave SKC no opportunities of consequence to attack, and SKC was certainly not up to the task of creating said opportunities on their own.Peter Vermes lamented this fact after the game in his post game comments, stating that LAFC were simply the better team in every phase of the game. While it was a fairly obvious statement, it rings a bit hollow as the team spent $9M in the offseason supposedly improving the quality of the attacking players on the roster only to see them struggle with the exact same issues as in the past. There are of course reasonable arguments to be made about rapport building and time playing together, but this all feels so familiar it is hard to believe that this is simply going to get better with time.We will discuss what we would do both with the personnel and tactics to try to get something out of this team, as well as discuss the reality of the situation that Peter Vermes finds himself in, and whether we believe he is capable of pulling the team out of it.Finally we will look at the fun soccer team in KC, the Current as they start the season 2-0, a USMNT that sadly looks just as ineffective offensively as Sporting KC, and preview Sporting's upcoming road trip to Frisco to meet up with the now Lucho Acosta-led FC Dallas.
It's a packed episode of the Agenda this week after FC Dallas' 1-nil loss this past Saturday to Vancouver. Ryan, Garrett, Steve, and special guest hosts random birds from Steve's yard take you through the critical events in the Vancouver loss including some tactical solutions on how to maximize Lucho Acosta. The lads then break down the arrival of Brazilian wunderkind Kaick, who has his first Frisco training under his belt, including what his personality says about the front office's aims in culture.Ryan then has a long-form interview with club legend goalkeeper Mark Dodd. Dodd tells the story of his tenure in Dallas and his journey in Paris with PSG as a young man. He also breaks down what's happening with Maarten Paes and the FC Dallas keeper situation as a whole.Post interview the boys break down all the FC Dallas ties on the international break and also clue you in to what might interest you in Round 1 of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Believe it or not, FC Cincinnati is about ready to celebrate their 10th season of professional football-soccer-Fußball this year! That's ten years of abject joy, regional pride, and celebration (with a few years of bottom-of-the-barrel misery in the middle). However, there is no time to party just yet--the Orange & Blue start their packed schedule in less than one week! How quickly can FC Cincinnati transition to 90-minute fitness and take on two matches in two different countries over four days? This week, we sit down with Tommy G to get his thoughts on what 2025 will mean to FC Cincinnati and reflect on the past decade as the voice of the Orange & Blue. (Dare we ask if that voice is insured for laryngitis?) Note from the podcaster: This podcast was recorded before the news on Lucho Acosta's trade to FC Dallas, so some information is already past its expiration date. Manu Garcia arrived in KC just in time to be greeted by a snowstorm and his new teammates returning from preseason. We take a look at some much too soon predictions for the team filled with a bunch of partial information from preseason scrimmages and lineups.Peter Vermes made the rounds on radio shows this week giving some insight into some of the offseason transactions and the things he is looking for from the team. It is always good to have a listen to what he has to say as he is often more forthcoming in these interviews than he is during normal press availability. We spend some time overreacting to everything that happened this off-season, given that said off-season is almost over, hopefully it gets it out of our requisite systems so we can get ready for an actual game of meaning Tuesday evening vs Inter Miami. Finally, a quick discussion about both Claire Hutton and Michelle Cooper getting calls up to the USWNT for the SheBelieves Cup, as well as the Soap Opera saga involving Lucho Acosta and Evander, as both find new homes and Portland gets money to re-invest in a new DP#10.Music by The Spin Wires.
