Movie #2 for The Butler Did It keeps us in 2009 with Neveldine/Taylor's GAMER. Along with Gerard Butler is Michael C. Hall, Terry Crews, and Ludacris. From IMDB: In a future mind-controlling game, death row convicts are forced to battle in a 'Doom'-type environment. Convict Kable, controlled by Simon, a skilled teenage gamer, must survive thirty sessions in order to be set free. Third time's the charm for returning guest (and video essayist extraordinaire) Patrick H. Willems, as we strap ourselves into the driver's seat for a pair of gonzo Cage-rage drivin' devil movies! First up is Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the Neveldine/Taylor-directed sequel to the 2000s adaptation of the Marvel comic character, with Cage reprising his role as cursed cyclist Johnny Blaze. This time, he's scraping at the door in Romania, going full Terminator 2 as he keeps the Devil (a scowling Ciaran Hinds) away from his kid. Meanwhile, Neveldine and Taylor do their Crank thing to mixed results, and Idris Elba is completely wasted as a French motorcycle priest(?) obsessed with helping the good guys. Then, we shift gears to Patrick Lussier's Drive Angry 3-D, a faux-grindhouse pastiche filled with more lolrandom epic bacon humor and random CG objects popping out at the screen than you could imagine. Still, it's got a lowbrow charm to it, and William Fichtner somehow out-acts Cage as a smarmy Accountant from the underworld who's chasing Cage's hell-escapee grandpa and his sexy waitress sidekick (Amber Heard). Goodman Season staggers bloodied and bullet-riddled to its final resting place to specifically not be saved by any sort of devilry or devil's deal, because they just didn't get that the CGI was good, not bad like everyone else seemed to think so. That's right, it's the one good thing about Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), directed by Neveldine/Taylor and starring Nic Cage, Idris Elba, Ciaran Hinds and more! Because the CGI in this is a damn sight better than everyone else seems to think, and they're wrong and need to rethink their whole lives and [steps away from microphone, screaming into a paper bag] Featuring: Mama Mary and Scary Boy, Nicolas Effiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing Cage and two Pauls just scraping at the door. This week we delve further into the Neveldine/Taylor filmography with 2009’s Gamer. This is a strange film with exceptional amounts of sex and violence that nonetheless has a lot to say about society, and seems to have aged surprisingly well. We also cover Matt’s gradual descent into insanity as the film Rock of Ages (2012) consumes his very soul. Don’t get played, check out this week’s Buzzed on Movies! Follow us on Twitter! This week, Twitty and Bran do their first remote edition. The boys link up to discuss two dystopian action flicks. One one hand, you have "Guns Akimbo", featuring a stellar performance from Daniel Radcliffe in a smorgasbord of trolling, ultraviolence, and unfortunately named side characters. On the other you have "Gamer" a Gerard Butler instant classic that puts the pedal to the metal and doesn't let up for a single second. This flick manages to combine jailed lunatics, high technology and ... Election tampering? They boys sling some serious praise on this Neveldine & Taylor adventure.

Ben Clausen gushes with host Joey Bergren about a unique action movie directing duo that never gets their proper respect; Neveldine/Taylor!
Possibly a first in the history of podcasting, Andrew and Anthony get to take revenge on a fan for requesting a horrible movie this one time by forcing them to come on the show and watch that movie's sequel. Listener Meghan Murphy joins us to take on 2011's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance! Would this movie have been better if the kid had been named Seamus O'Bullfighter? Is the moment when Ghost Rider turns a titanic industrial digger into a hell-machine the greatest moment in the history of cinema? And welcome to the show cave-dwelling, tattooed Christopher Lambert! PS: Don't look up that "first in the history of podcasting" thing from before, it's undoubtedly not true. PPS: The audio gets really screwed up for reasons unknown half way though. We're still trying to figure that one out. Though really we may have unintentionally replicated the experience of watching a Neveldine/Taylor movie, which is that it's really loud and kinda hard to follow, but if you do it's a pretty great time.
The New Flesh is proud to present an in-depth interview with Mark Neveldine, one half of prolific writer/director duo Neveldine/Taylor responsible for the CRANK series. Mark stops by Joe's rooftop penthouse to walk us through his incredible career — from his early days bullshitting on BIKER BOYZ, through the CRANK films, up to the more recent VATICAN TAPES. That is, once Joe and Mark stop gushing about their love for Slipknot. Throughout the hour-long conversation, Mark reveals who was slated to be the original Chev Chelios before Staham signed on, details all the times he almost died while filming CRANK, and walks us through a prank he and his wife Alison Lohman (DRAG ME TO HELL, MATCHSTICK MEN) pulled on 'mega-actor' Nicolas Cage.
Nicolas Cage reaches dizzying new heights of insanity in this 2012 sequel of the first Ghost Rider movie. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance combines the deadly duo of Neveldine/Taylor with the off the wall madness of Nicolas Cage; will we be able to handle the mayhem?
Cage-rage!
Taking a look back at the older films they saw for the first time in 2013, Mike and Sean revisit Neveldine/Taylor's 2006 Crank and Sammo Hung's 1980 The Victim (aka Lightning Kung-Fu). They also count down their top five movies discoveries of 2013 and listen to some of their favorite songs of the year. And for some reason they spend five minutes arguing about Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers.
Andrew might have to give up his critic card. Critics everywhere are calling Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance a worthless piece of garbage, but is it as bad as that? Tune in as Andrew defends the film (or at least, the filmmakers) and points out signs of creativity. Plus, our hosts unveil a new show segment. SHOW NOTES: 0:22 - Intro and clip 5:57 - Frank's favorite scene 7:48 - So bad it's good? 9:42 - Elements of the Neveldine/Taylor style; peeing fire and Twinkies 16:22 - A callback to the Wicker Man remake? 19:09 - The Blackout makeup design 20:55 - Unique imagery, or just standard superhero visuals? 22:38 - Disregarding the backstory of the first film; plot inconsistencies 29:52 - Blackout's love life, the action sequences 35:29 - Reboot This! 43:05 - Show close 45:41 - More Ghost Rider sequel ideas DON'T FORGET: You can contact the show by emailing cinemafix@filmgeekradio.com.
