It isn't often you get so many genre icons in one movie, but so is the case with the Ready or Not sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. This action horror film was directed by Matt Bettinelli - Oplin & Tyler Gillett and was written by Guy Busick & R. Christopher Murphy and is a direct sequel to the 2019 film which features the same writers and directors. The film sees Samara Weaving return to her previous role and joined by a new cast of killers that include Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Cronenberg & Elijah Wood. In this film, a woman who narrowly survived a deadly game of hide and seek which lead to the deaths of several people, is once dragged back into the game by a new family of players. Originally, Busick & Murphy had different plans for this film. It was planned entirely as a separate film project all together but when Searchlight Picutres brought back Oplin & Gillett to direct, the 2 scripts were merged into one and thus that's bring us to this film. It premiered at the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas on March 13th, 2026 before hitting theaters nationwide on March 20th.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of March 20, 2026. "Project Hail Mary" is the big release of the week and probably the best movie of the year so far… or even last year. While trying to not get listeners over-hyped, Ryan Gosling does a phenomenal job in this funny, charming and visually stunning sci-fi film based on the book of the same name from “The Martian” writer Andy Weir.  Also out on the big screen, the goofy violence rules the day in "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" which has some great actors like (Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton, Elijah Wood) but it just didn't click for Andy--even though some people will like this horror sequel full of deals with devils, sisterly strife, and a kids game turned evil.  On streaming, if you can handle some of the vulgar jokes, "Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat” is almost as funny as the first season of "Jury Duty,” with a mockumentary/realitytv vibe.  The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy, with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch” (taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment) and “What to Do” on the weekend minisodes, and two deep-dives episodes a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Silas Howard (@silash), award-winning trans filmmaker, to talk about why the 2024 horror-romcom Lisa Frankenstein Should've Been Gay. If you recall, we recently did an SBG episode on the 2022 series Darby and the Dead, which was directed by none other than Silas. So when we decided to do an episode on Lisa Frankenstein, we could not think of a more fitting guest for discussing this incredibly campy, queer-coded Halloweencore romcom. As you all know by now, monsters are super queer-coded. They are often depicted on the fringes of society, hiding in literal closets, and transforming their bodies in unique ways. If you identified with the misunderstood monster in horror movies growing up, you're probably some flavor of queer now. Lisa Frankenstein takes identifying with monsters a step further by making the transmasc-coded creature a love interest for the main character.  The story follows Kathryn Newton's character Lisa Swallows (the jokes basically write themselves) and her growing friendship with a reanimated corpse. She seems entirely unconcerned with his whole being dead thing and doesn't mind one bit that he is missing certain body parts. Things get increasingly unhinged as Lisa begins helping her new friend get the body parts he needs to feel affirmed and comfortable in his newly reanimated skin.  Everything in this film from the plot to the cast (Carla freaking Gugino is in this!) to the color palette to the over the top drag-influence on the costume design is too queer-coded to have been unintentional. Honestly even the morally ambiguous way that the characters approach killing is queer-coded. In the new '80s horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein, an introverted teen (Kathryn Newton) finds comfort in visiting the grave of a young Victorian bachelor (Cole Sprouse). When his corpse comes to life, he becomes her confidante as they embark on a murderous spree. Written by Diablo Cody (Jennifer's Body) and directed by Zelda Williams, the movie is an over-the-top mix of romance, jealousy, self-realization, horniness and murder.
