With both teams missing a significant amount starters to international duty, injury or suspension, this match up looked to be less than ideal. Though the final result came in as a 2-2 draw, there were some bright spots for the Orange and Blue. Nick Hagglund made his first start since his injury. Evander got on the ball in dangerous spots and scored a brace. And Brad Smith made his debut by bringing some pace and new energy down the left flank. In episode 411 of Cincinnati Soccer Talk, Brian, Coach, Nick, and Cliff will breakdown the match and discuss whether or not it's time to panic. Tony Husband from MLS Season Pass also plans to drop by to discuss the upcoming match in Nashville. Get your Apple MLS Season Pass. An excellent episode here as Will Forbes (@TransfersMLS) joins Jordan and me on the podcast. From players to coaches to stadium issues, where does Will see NYCFC in terms of ambition in the league? So much to unpack here, so tune in! Before all this, Jordan and I break down the win 4-0 win NYCFC had against FC Cincinnati. Join us on SportsHosts and be entered in our monthly NYCFC merch giveaway: http://thenycfcnation.com/sportshostsapp Game recap provided by MLS Soccer Alexandru Mitrita scored twice in the first half, including a goal just 30 seconds into the match, as New York City FC cruised to a 4-0 win over FC Cincinnati at Red Bull Arena on Saturday evening. NYCFC came out firing from the get-go as Mitrita opened the scoring at the 30-second mark — the fastest goal scored in club history — to give the Cityzens the early 1-0 lead. Despite the visitors being heavily dominated in possession, Frankie Amaya nearly leveled things for Cincinnati in the 23rd as his chance just missed the frame. Anton Tinnerholm, though, converted from an acute angle off a nice pass from Ismael Tajouri-Shradi to double the home side's lead in the 25th, and Mitrita made it a brace in the 43rd as the rout was on. Jesus Medina wrapped up the scoring in the 88th as his free kick deflected off a FC Cincy defender and past Spencer Richey. Cincinnati played this one without Nick Hagglund, who revealed earlier in the afternoon that he had tested positive for COVID-19. With the Bundesliga back in full swing, Luke. KJ and Stevie looked back on Der Klassiker and highlighted the revitalization of Thomas Muller as key to Bayern' success, even though it was Kimmich who picked up the man of the match performance. Dubbed ‘roadrunner’ by Muller - the gang discussed the continued rise of Alphonso Davies, and whether or not his pace allows him to compensate for some defensive weaknesses.TFC’s Liam Fraser was the latest player to give his views on training within the social distancing guidelines, as well as breaking down how much time he thought the squad would need to be match fit and mentally ready. FC Cincinnati's Nick Hagglund talked the gang through a fine headed goal in TFC’s victory over Portland Timbers in 2014, while the gang carefully studied replays of a Stevie own goal from the same game - with some debate (from Stevie) about the call.Hagglund also spoke about his desire to bring success to his hometown club by emulating the togetherness and cohesion he felt at TFC, and how players are tentatively hopeful of a return to action in the mooted Florida MLS camp. Lance talks with the newest member of FC Cincinnati, Nick Hagglund.
FC Cincinnati's New Acquisition Nick Hagglund who's a local kid, joins me to talk about what it means to being playing for his hometown team.
The winter transfer window is just now getting into gear. The Pity Martinez deal is done, but now Atlanta United need to sell Miguel Almiron. Could Tottenham Hotspur get in the mix? What if ... they can't get a deal done? Plus, Kaku's agent is negotiating hard int he press -- a little too hard, you could argue -- and the player himself is asking the Red Bulls to sell him to Club America. What's going to happen next? It's anyone's guess. Also in this show: Nick Hagglund trade analysis, Gregory van der Wiel gets the boot in Toronto, Timbers chase Tigres young gun and Tim Howard hangs them up. 1:07 Is Pity Martinez the best player in MLS? 14:55 Kaku and his agent up the ante ... and maybe go too far? 21:02 Gregory van der Wiel and Toronto FC file for divorce 26:22 Nick Hagglund goes home, but did FC Cincinnati over pay? 32:33 FC Dallas hit a home run with Chris Richards sale to Bayern Munich 41:03 INTERVIEW: Gio Savarese on why MLS is attracting South Americans 53:21 INTERVIEW: Remi Garde on his transition to MLS, first impressions 1:01:33 Gregg Berhalter's USMNT debut in the mailbag
Charlie O'Connor-Clarke of Waking the Red stops by the show to break down what has been a couple of days of chaos for Toronto FC as they trade Nick Hagglund before Gregory van der Wiel was sent home from training camp.
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, soccer fans! Welcome back to the Sons of a Pitch: An American Soccer Podcast. It's cold and icy outside, but we've got our supporter scarves to keep us warm. Mike is obviously sporting the TFC tribute to the Sebastian Giovinco "The Atomic Ant" while Nick is paying tribute to the Fire's signing of Marcelo with his Sporting Portugal scarf. In the episode, the hosts break down Gregg Berhalter's first United States Men's National Team (USMNT) roster for upcoming friendlies against Panama and Costa Rica. The all MLS-based roster has a few surprises with Sean Johnson as the backup goalkeeper, Jeremy Ebobisse one of three strikers, and Daniel Lovitz as a potential starting defender. Nick and Mike get into a lively discussion on how much winning these games means to Berhalter and the American fan-base, as opposed to simply gaining experience and finding players who fit his style. Next, Mike dives in to breaking news out of Toronto. TSN Live reporter Kristian Jack reports that Toronto FC (TFC) have traded defender Nick Hagglund to FC Cincinnati and that TFC is parting ways with Gregory van der Wiel after an altercation with head coach Greg Vanney. As Mike states, van der Wiel has had issues in the past and things have gotten to the point where the two sides can no longer work together. Meanwhile, the trade of Hagglund gives TFC greater salary cap space while FCC gets a proven defender to help guide their expansion franchise. It looks like TFC has started their rebuild a year sooner than expected. Finally, the hosts give their impressions on the league's latest expansion franchise: Austin FC. Logo jokes aside, the hosts agree that more soccer is always welcome. However, the history of soccer in the city of Austin is spotty at best (see Austin Aztex x2). Can Major League Soccer (MLS) survive in Austin? Only time will tell. Thanks for listening, and be sure to spread the word! Let us know your thoughts on all things USMNT and MLS in the comments below.
The Reds make history and appear to be a team of destiny as they came back not once, but twice, to get past the Montreal Impact 7-5 on aggregate after extra time. It was one of those rare instances where there were no weak links as key and role players all contributed on an amazing result. From Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore to Justin Morrow and Nick Hagglund, it was a match and performance that will not be forgotten. Up next is the MLS Cup as the Reds host the Sounders and look to finish the job on what has been an incredible ride thus far.
On this weeks #COYR Podcast Devang & Gareth discuss TFC vs. Chicago, the Man City Friendly and chat with Nick Hagglund about TFCs worst dressed player.
Toronto FC came alive in the second half and show character inconsistently seen this season in a 3-2 win over the Portland Timbers. Down 2-0 in the first half, Nick Hagglund scored a brace and Michael Bradley took a free kick that found the back of the net for a critical three points. Anything less than a win would have all but been a nail in the coffin on the season, and now Toronto will have five important games to round off the year. We will see if whatever was said at the half is enough to see this team through the last month of the season.
