This episode is a little different because it's a simulcast of my friend Jerry Won's podcast, Dear Asian Americans. He interviewed me on his show and we talked about how I got to where I am today. We discussed: When it became clear to me that I could teach and be the “product” What I learned from being in the church world Separating a professional and personal identity and the importance of being self aware How to keep evolving and staying relevant Thinking outside the routine The article I wrote on racism after the Atlanta shootings And much more. He is extremely active in the Queens, New York Community, the Queens County Bar Association, and New York State Bar Association and is frequently invited to speak at events about Elder Law. If you'd like to learn more about Elder Law, Medicaid planning, Guardianship, Special Needs Trusts, or Probate law contact the Law Office of Frank Bruno, Jr. today at 718-418-5000. Thank you for listening! Eldercare law is really an umbrella term encompassing multiple areas of law. Some elder care attorneys handle subjects that most people know something about, such as probate, guardianship, estate planning. Other eldercare lawyers focus their practice on other areas of law such as special needs planning, VA benefits planning, and Medicaid planning. So, what is Medicaid planning? Medicaid planning is a way to protect people's assets from the threat of long-term care expenses. Many clients are between 65 and 95, own their own homes, and have between $25,000 and $750,000 worth of assets in addition to the house. What many people don't realize is exactly how expensive long term care expenses can be – In 2020 the average costs of a skilled nursing facility, in New York is $14,250.00 per month. Someone can be solidly middle class or upper-middle class, have saved their whole life, and think that they'll have plenty of money for whatever happens only to suffer a stroke, major heart attack or get an Alzheimer's or Parkinson's diagnosis and need help with their activities of daily living. If they have this six-figure per year care expense, many people spend everything. Medicare does not pay skilled nursing home expenses after 100 days. An elder care attorney, who handles Medicaid planning, is able to legally and ethically protect people's assets to get them qualified for Medicaid. Medicaid, unlike Medicare, has excellent long-term care benefits. This helps them supplement their lifestyle with their own assets (to improve the quality of their life while alive) and make it more likely that they will have something to pass onto their heirs after they pass away. There are many myths and much misinformation surrounding long-term care Medicaid in New York. To learn more please visit... https://www.frankbrunolaw.com

You might have heard the saying from Neale Donald Walsch, "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."The same can be said for your goals. In this episode, Michel shares how one of the biggest challenges between you and your goals, is the comfort zone you currently live in.We all have comfort zones, whether it's our friends, our current financial situation, our job and more. Yet, as we look inside, we all want to achieve more. Even the world's biggest billionaires are still setting goals to go higher! (literally!)However, we struggle to achieve our goals because we are afraid to leave our comfort zone. For many of us, this is where imposter syndrome comes in.You might say to yourself, "I am not good enough""I am not smart enough""I will never reach that goal"We all have that voice inside, and it's time to break through that voice - through our comfort zone - and go get our goals! And the good news, your comfort zone will always be here for you. It's exactly the place to come back to when you want to assess and take inventory of your progress. But, to make the progress, bust out of your comfort zone!!!At Upskill Community, we offer a supportive community to help you take each step as you embark outside of your comfort zone.Click here to learn more.Thank you for listening and sharing!

Out of the Country? Pay Tax! Income Tax Requirements When Living Out of the Country Living in a foreign country holds a lot of appeal. It gives an exotic impression and seems like a never-ending vacation. But it doesn't matter where you go, because the US government still expects you to file a tax return and pay taxes. This is true even if you become a citizen of the other country and live there full time. The United States might be the only country in the world that does this. If you were a citizen of Italy but living and working in Argentina, Italy wouldn't expect you to pay any taxes! You would have to pay them in Argentina, though. The US would expect you to pay both. For your peace of mind and to keep you out of jail, become familiar with the income tax rules that apply to you as a citizen of the United States living outside the country. Income tax rules for US citizens living abroad: No matter where you live, you must file a tax return. It's entirely possible that you won't owe any taxes, but you must file an income tax return each year. You're still subjected to all US tax laws. This includes income tax rates and the same credits and deductions. There are 2 primary ways to reduce your taxes owed in the United States. The United States has a reputation for double taxation, but in practice that only applies above certain income limits. Foreign tax credit: This credit is intended to protect American citizens from paying taxes twice on the same income. In essence, you can deduct any income taxes you've paid in the foreign country from your taxes owed in the US. There is a limit, however. If you paid $12,000 in foreign taxes, you could reduce your US tax bill by $12,000. Simple enough. Income exclusions: This is the other option. You can't claim both. The income exclusion allows you to reduce your gross income by up to $97,600. You can also subtract housing costs up to a maximum amount. As an example, if you earned $100,000 in a foreign country, your taxable income would be only $2,400. It would be even less after the housing cost credit. The housing credit is equal to the cost of housing minus $15,216. The maximum is 30% of $97,600. If your housing costs were $25,000, you could claim an additional deduction of $9,784 from your gross income. Self-employed folks are not eligible for this housing exclusion.

The Need to Obliterate Shame -Body Image, Sex, Shame, Love, and Faith It isn't easy to obliterate shame when it is deep-rooted and generational. But there are steps you can take to remove the triggers, step into your faith and God-led calling, and become a vessel for God. Obliterate Shame Around Body Image Robyn originally met Tamra in a Clubhouse room and was impressed with Tamra's ability to freely talk about her faith. Robyn then saw a post that Tamra put on Instagram about body image and it really resonated with her. The body image piece is cultivated by a sexism culture. What is the body for versus what is the body a vessel for? For years Tamra saw herself as nothing but a tool for the opposite sex. She felt that everything she did had to be for the pleasure of someone else. Or, that she had to fit a certain frame in order to be loved. Tamra mentioned how at a time when the cerebral cortex is still developing, teens are exposed to magazines with beautiful, sexual images. We have to consistently blind the eyes of our children from society and the exposure of women's bodies in a sexual way. Moving Outside the Box of Cultural Norms to Obliterate Shame Tamra is on a mission to obliterate shame and one way she is helping women do that is through sharing fitness and nutrition. Everyone goes to body conscientious first. Its mind, body, soul, spirit, and mental health is often pushed aside. The body tends to come up first. Tamra shifted this thinking when she realized that her spirit and soul precede her body when she enters a room. Once she changed her way of thinking, her body became a vessel to steward the Holy Spirit rather than a tool for others' pleasure. When we are trying to fit into a box of cultural norms, we use suppression and coping mechanisms to control what we can't control. Tamra used alcohol, shopping, and other addictions as coping mechanisms. It's important to look at those coping mechanisms that are preventing us from being what God has called us to be. Freedom only comes when you face what has kept you in a box for so long. Tamra stressed that from the outside looking in life can look amazing and no one sees the internal distractions and problems. No one offers help when they don't see that help is needed. The expectations of perfectionism are overwhelming. The roots of our generations often go deep and influence body image and overall mental health. Click here to read the full blog post and access links.  Buy Tamra's book, Always Becoming: Sex, Shame, & Love.  Book a complimentary mentorship call with Robyn.

Welcome to Day 1811 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Live Outside Yourself – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1811 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16)  How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!    If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life.  So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Albert Einstein, and it is: A person starts to live when he can live outside themself. Live Outside Yourself Since we are created as imagers of God, our very nature is to image to others what God has become within our lives.  This can only happen when we live outside of ourself, and our little cloistered world and start impacting the lives of others for God's Kingdom.  We were not created to isolate ourselves from the world, but to be salt and light by proclaiming Jesus Christ to a world that is dying of thirst and stumbling around in the darkness. Once we realize that our vocation is to build God's kingdom here on earth, our focus will shift from ourselves to everyone God permits to cross our life path. We need to climb out of our self-made prison, which only focuses inward, and break free to provide freedom to others.  Let us be salt and light every day. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A13-16&version=NLT (Matthew 5:13-16) You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.  “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1810 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com.  I encourage you to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day's trek will be downloaded automatically. Thank you so much for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and, most of all, your friend as I serve you through this Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal. As we take this Trek together, let us always: Live Abundantly (Fully) Love Unconditionally Listen Intentionally Learn Continuously Lend to others Generously Lead with Integrity Leave a Living Legacy Each Day I am Guthrie Chamberlain….reminding you to 'Keep Moving Forward,' ‘Enjoy your Journey,' and ‘Create a Great Day…Everyday'! She worked in Customs for 28 years and was involved in task forces such as Counter Terrorism, Air Border Security, People Smuggling and Joint Target Ops. She was in the reserve army for 10 years and a Presiding Justice of Peace in the Magistrate Court for Violence Restraining Orders. She is a Personal Trainer and a Marriage Celebrant. She was a participant on Season 1 of Australian Survivor where we first met and a former Ambassador for the Australian Charity Act for Kids where she collaboratively fundraised over $300,000 through her adventures trekking the Kokoda Track and walking the Great Wall of China. What I personally loved about this conversation is to come to better understand Sue's incredible life experience and how this has resulted in what she is so passionate about. From people smuggling to refugees to domestic violence, Sue has worked first hand in these areas and it is insightful to hear the stories that are not always available through mainstream media. As this is a long conversation, I will let you know, this is the focus on the first half, and then we move into the space of talking intimately about our experience on Australian Survivor together, what it is like to come in and out of the spotlight, and the importance of moving on and growing from such experiences. If you are loving this podcast, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, I actually received a message from a good friend of mine showing me someone recommending the podcast to her, which was really exciting as I do genuinely believe and know these conversations have a positive impact on people's lives, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and just like Sue has previously described this podcast to me, as it feels like just the three of us having a chat, I hope you enjoy this intimate and insightful conversation with the beautiful Sue Clarke.Connect with MeMindset Coaching | https://www.jennahlouise.com.auInstagram Personal | https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseConnect with SueInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/sueclarke_thatsme Website | https://www.sueclarkecelebrant.com.au

As outliers, spiritual mystics, and magickal practitioners, we come up against a fair amount of resistance and even ridicule. Too often, we find ourselves on the defensive regarding our beliefs and experiences. Today, I'm discussing how this type of negativity can affect us. I'm not claiming that living a life "outside the box" makes for an easy path, but, at this point, I can't imagine returning to the prison of the "muggle" matrix. Walking a spiritual path, existing in mystical space, summoning magick, calling on angels, communing with inter-dimensional beings. These things require an open heart, a curious mind, and constant courage. And while there's still so much to learn, so much to experience, and so much to explore, I'm willing to walk this path, failings and all.  Because, quite honestly, I can't imagine doing anything else. If you're already living "outside the box," then I know you will understand the message in this episode. If you've carried the burden of being unusual in any way, it's likely you also know the pain of isolation and reproach. As a fellow outlier, I believe our time to shine has arrived. The skills we've developed on our unusual journeys are about to become critical to our survival as a species. We're not here to be deterred or distracted by negativity. We are here to dive deep, escape the matrix, and fulfill our destinies!

Work Smart Live Smart with Beverly Beuermann-King

We know that we are not active enough, especially during the winter months. Did you know that almost two thirds of us are not active enough to achieve the health benefits we need from physical activity? What Is WinterActive' WinterActive was designed to help Canadians of all ages improve their health and quality of life through healthy living.  Do You Get As Much Physical Activity As You Need? One of the campaigns that I like was called Live Outside the Box which encourages us to not be caught in a lifestyle dominated by the television or computer. So Here are today's Hot Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating WinterActive Month: Be a role model. Children learn more from our actions than our words. Be realistic about your children's activity level.  88% of parents said that their kids were physically active, yet measures indicated that 87% were not meeting physical activity guidelines. Start your day with 10 minutes of movement. At work, get active by taking stretch breaks during meetings, or have a “walking” meeting As for me, Off I go to shovel the sidewalk and take my dogs out.  Don't forget that you can find more tips for coping with mental health issues, by checking out my Live Smart blog at worksmartlivesmart.com

Ep #13 - In this weeks episode we discuss principle #2 - Courage. With an open mind, you can achieve the life of your dreams but you have to possess the courage it will take to step into the life college is there to evolve you toward. Everything you want in life is at your fingertips, around the corner, but you must reach for it, you must keep moving or you will awake one day with a life of regret instead of fond memories and life experiences (remember this is no failure only feedback) under your belt. Courage is essential in life because if you lack it, then you will also lack self-awareness, self-confidence, self-esteem, and so much more.  Everyone is afraid of something, that is a fact. It's how one faces that fear, manages that fear, deals with that fear, and begins to overcome that fear - that speaks volumes about their courageousness and their character. If you call yourself a perfectionist or if you procrastinate as a default behavior you are living in a state of fear, and most certainly lacking courage. As we progress through the next five principles look for ideas and inspiration to push through perfectionism and procrastination and actually get to the job at hand. Step through the fear of social awkwardness. Be grounded in the idea that not everyone will like you but a lot will. Be who you want to be and be around the people you want to be around not just the people that want you around because you act like they want you to act. If you feel fear coming through you ask yourself why you feel that fear, where is the source of the fear, and how can you overcome the fear?  In my experience, just going through the act that is bringing you fear will relieve most of the fear.  You know you have done this in other areas of your life. Go back to a time when you overcame a fear. What were you doing? How did you do to overcome the fear?  Thank you for joining me for another episode of College Success Habits.  Also, please subscribe, rate and review the show to help us spread the word about this awesome free content. “It's that rawness of being in the moment. There's just so much going on around you. Your focus is so pinpointed…I find it so relaxing.” - Ep85. Ren McGann, The Monica Kade Podcast Ren McGann's and my path collided via Instagram. I very quickly fell in love with his big wave photographs and it wasn't long before gut instinct urged me to get him on the podcast show. I follow A LOT of wave photographers but over the years, nothing has moved me in the way his photography has. We got to chatting, and the more I found about him through his website and the other media articles that have featured him, the more I wanted to know. His down-to-earth nature, coupled with a genuine love for making connections and bettering the lives of those who cross his path really stood out for me. And so, this week I'm stoked to welcome Ren to Episode 85 of The Monica Kade podcast. He's a Western Australian photographer specialising in big wave photography. He's always had a fascination for big waves and extreme weather. His first trip to ‘The Right'—one of the biggest wave spots in the world—sparked his passion for photography and dramatically changed the direction of his life. He went from being a commercial mariner for 10 years, running all sorts of vessels out of Exmouth in eco-tourism, fishing, oil and gas, cray-fishing amongst others to immersing himself amongst mother nature's gnarliest yet magnificent waves and keenest surfers. If you haven't seen his photography, you must. I'm a huge fan of big and burly waves, but Ren's photos capture more than a wave. They're imbued with something I just can't put into words. I honestly loved this conversation with Ren and I hope you do too. Learn About: - What inspired him becoming a mariner? - What he loved most about that part of his life - The mental challenge of breaking out of a good life and staying where he was - What the quote on his website, “We find ourselves through exploration” means to him - When and how his interest in photography came into focus - What it's like to see the world through his eyes as a photographer - How he knows when the perfect moment is to take the shot - What he loves most about big waves - What he's learned about himself through photographing big waves - The down low on what it's really like for those of us who haven't experienced being in the ocean around these waves? - What his fascination with waves is Plus much more! Signature Questions: Sunset or sunrise? What career he'd like to attempt if not in this one? What Being his Best looks like to him?

Whether you think so or not, you live in a bubble. Gret Glyer, the founder of DonorSee, didn't realize that until he got far outside his bubble. And he got so far outside it that he wanted to change other people's bubbles. Gret grew up in Fairfax, Virginia in the second-wealthiest county in the United States (just behind Teton County in Wyoming where my business partner Bill lives, according to some lists.) So when he moved to Malawi—the poorest country in the world as of 2014—his bubble popped. He went there to teach math, but ended up doing his own social-work projects more than anything. In the three years he lived there, Gret built more than 100 houses for homeless people and also crowdfunded a $100,000 girls' school designed to give the country an educational boost to exit poverty. After that experience, he decided he could help more projects like that all over the world with his own company. So he founded DonorSee, a visual platform for donations that lets people see who they're helping as well as the results of the aid quickly.   You wouldn't know it now, but Gret's first attempt to raise $800 to build a house stopped short at $100 until he changed one mentality that was holding him back. He had to pop his bubble. If you want to know how to take a leap of faith like Indiana Jones, this episode is for you. If you'd like to learn what it takes to live outside your bubble, Gret's story will mean a lot to you. And if you want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of real people, click play in the player above to get started now. Listen to this episode to hear me talk with Gret Glyer, founder of DonorSee about living outside your bubble and more: Why Gret Glyer left a life on the fast track for a different bubble. Eradicating malaria in an African village. How Gret compares his story to Indiana Jones. The one change that made Gret's idea work when he was hitting a wall. The “brain drain” in Malawi and how Gret's work sought to change that. American poverty vs. African wealth and vice versa. Why failures come from hubris and this one faulty way of thinking.
