In the courtroom of eternity, objections rise against the believer's justification—but what does the Judge say? Paul anticipates the arguments and calls two powerful witnesses to the stand: Abraham and David. What do their testimonies reveal about salvation by faith alone? And how does God respond when accusations threaten our standing before Him? Watch as we unpack Romans 4:1-8 and discover what God's Word says.

In Genesis 16:1-16 Abram foolishly listens to his wife and takes Hagar as a second wife to produce a male child. Abram sins doubly by agreeing to the plan and then allowing his new wife to be sent away. Hagar sins in her pride over Sarai. Sarai sins in suggesting the idea in the first place. All of this leads to rupture in the family. Yet, in the midst of all of this sin, God comes graciously to Hagar and shows that grace will be shown to the Gentiles in exile when they turn to God. God uses the foolishness and sin of all involved to foreshadow the glorious ingathering of the nations through Christ, showing the wonder of His unsearchable wisdom.

In a court of law, lawyers often times raise objections to what an opposing lawyer has said. Sometimes the judge declares, "Sustained", and at other times, the judge will say, "Objection overruled!" In Romans 3, Paul tackles the objections raised by unsaved Jews, and in each case, it's "Objection Overruled!" Let's take a closer look at that together now.
The Indianapolis Community Food Access Coalition recently recommended new community members to a city commission. The National Labor Relations Board this week overruled an Indiana company's objections to a successful union vote by its workers. The Environmental Protection Agency says the standard for cleaning up coal ash in the Town of Pines will now be a little more strict – but activists say some flaws still remain. At IPS Butler University Laboratory School 60 on the city's near northside, nearly 300 students have been taking classes all summer. Want to go deeper on the stories you hear on WFYI News Now? On this Episode: On Friday, SCOTUS overruled the legal doctrine known as Chevron Deference in a 6-3 decision authored by Chief Justice John Roberts. For almost 40 years, Chevron served as a legal structure through which courts may review, approve, and reject regulations in the context of statutory intent. Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Katanji Brown-Jackson dissented, arguing that deference should be given to agency expertise to clarify ambiguities in statutes. In this special re-release of On the Ballot's coverage from earlier in the year, we unpack Chevron Deference's history, how the doctrine works, the arguments for and against keeping it around, and what its future might look like after SCOTUS's decision. Objection Overruled (Romans 3:1-8) by Sun Valley Church
John Sylvester was the counsel of record in the controversial Abdelqader v. Abraham published opinion. In the previous episode we discussed why it was controversial. (Short version: because the Court of Appeal, sub silentio, thumbed its nose at the Supreme Court and concluded that a missing finding required by statute gives you a an automatic get-a-new-trial-free card.) In this second part of our discussion, we discuss analogous situations with the Racial Justice Act, and in the example of family law financial disclosures—where in a closely analogous situation the Court of Appeal held exactly the opposite of Abdelqader.John explains what attorneys are supposed to do with two conflicting authorities—with one of them being the Supreme Court. John Sylvester was the counsel of record in the controversial Abdelqader v. Abraham published opinion. Why was it controversial? Because the Court of Appeal thumbed its nose at the Supreme Court, which had held in F.P. v. Monier that just because the trial judge forgets to make a required written finding you don't get an automatic get-a-new-trial-free card. Abdelqader held that, in custody matters, you do get an automatic get-a-new-trial-free card.In this first part of our discussion, John lays out the all-important statement of decision process, and the constitutional mandate that led the Supreme Court to hold that a defective statement of decision doesn't give you an automatic get-a-new-trial-free card. That sets up part two of our discussion in the next episode in which we discuss analogous situations with the Racial Justice Act, and in the example of family law financial disclosures—where in a closely analogous situation the Court of Appeal held exactly the opposite of Abdelqader. Justice Samuel Alito has been found to have flown another flag favored by some of the January 6th insurrections. Maybe it's time for a preeminent and powerful jurist to do more than channel Borat in saying, "My Wiiiiife." And we're joined by former NPR and MSNBC host Joshua Johnson to diagnose the critiques of public radio. Johnson is a veteran of (and a huge believer in) NPR, and he rebuts most of the criticism put forth by tomorrow's guest, Uri Berliner. Hour 2 - Draft talk continues with Keefe and Fitzy and wonder what the approach internally is for the Patriots. Is Eliot Wolf judge and jury if he wants to draft JJ McCarthy? Then, the guys agree that if the Pats were to trade back for more assets, Michael Penix would be the option at quarterback. And, the end of Bill Belichick's career may be closer than we think after news about him writing a book.
