A Study of 1 Peter | How Life & Hope Coincide

study 1 peter paul ramsey
St. Patrick Presbyterian Church, EPC

If you're like me, then you're exiting summer with plenty of regrets. Did you accomplish everything you put on your to do list? Did you go everywhere? Did you see everyone? Did you stop time around a bonfire with family or learn everything you could from your summer reading list? No, no, no, and double no for me. Spring Greg has a lot of summer hopes; Fall Greg comes back to earth. And that's when I learn to be human again. Our August sermon series aims to meet us in the mundane and find the glory God shares with His creation. "Men ought not to play God before they learn to be men, and after they have learned to be men, they will not play God." Paul Ramsey was a theologian and bioethicist at Princeton when he coined this saying. He used it to guide much of his teaching on how we use science and medicine in our modern age. Since then, many arguments have been made against it, but the principle remains. God is God; we are not. The storyline of Scripture is built on this truth. The Gospel would not be good news without this truth. And joy would quickly disappear from our world if we completely deny this truth. Because the glory of being human is not found in grasping at the divine; we can't be everything, everywhere, all at once. The glory we crave is received when we return to earth and settle into the present time and place. Let God be God—that is the better story we'll explore this Sunday. I hope you'll join us.

This week on Macklin's Take we bring you a very special episode. We talk often on the podcast about amateur boxing, about how vital amateur clubs are, not just to the sport, but also to the communities they belong to, and how the people who run them are the sport's true, unsung heroes. Well a couple of weeks ago Matt invited me along to the birthday party of his old amateur coach, a man who helped save and shape so many young people's lives and who also brought through more than his fair share of champions. Pat Benson, in his late 80s now, ran Small Heath Boxing club, a powerhouse of an ABC, for decades and the turnout at the Irish Centre spoke volumes about the esteem in which he is held by everyone who walked through the doors of the club. We sat down with the likes of Wayne Elcock, Paul Ramsey, Anthony Maynard, Rowan Williams, Dennis Brown and Shaun Cogan amongst others to re-live some glory days and reflect on the impact boxing and Small Heath has had on their lives. The geospatial world of Postgres is so much more than mapping. Paul Ramsey and Regina Obe join Claire Giordano and Pino de Candia to explore the "where" on Path To Citus Con, the podcast for developers who love Postgres. What are some of the unexpected use cases for PostGIS, one of the most popular extensions to Postgres? How have Large Language Models helped in the geospatial world? Can you really model almost anything with pgRouting? “Where” is the universal foreign key. They talk about communities and governments using geospatial data and how it's very difficult to build a database that does not have some sort of spatial component to it. Why do people care about PostGIS? Find out more about OpenStreetMap and its place in the open source geospatial world. The MapScaping Podcast - GIS, Geospatial, Remote Sensing, earth observation and digital geography

The promise of digital mapping is to provide a shared and real-time view of the state of the underlying system. pg_eventserv is a free and open-source component that helps fulfill the promise of real-time event modeling and shared views in PostgreSQL. By connecting to PostgreSQL and listening on specified channels, pg_eventserv captures database notifications and forwards them to web clients, enabling real-time updates and synchronization of data displayed on maps or other web interfaces. pg_eventserv does one thing and one thing only: take events generated by the PostgreSQL NOTIFY command and passes the payload along to waiting WebSockets clients. pg_eventserv is free and easy to install and you can find it here: https://github.com/CrunchyData/pg_eventserv What this means is that any client can watch for notifications and update as changes in the database happen. Real-time data! It was a lively, global city, a center for thought and creativity, comprised of diverse peoples and cultures.
