Amazon Book I have great love for preserving and retelling unwritten history that my great-grandparents, grand-parents, parents, and I have lived to tell about. I have great ambitions to save our culture and to retell stories of how our ancestors lived. I believe that among the things that shape our lives, perhaps our history is the most significant. I have always had a dream that someday I would be given the opportunity to be able to retell the stories of our ancestors. I have great hopes that you can help me get this book, The Penitentes, published so many of our people can read this and imagine what our lives were like. I believe this book should be published because what is written is exactly what I witnessed as a child and young adult. I have written what my grandparents and parents shared with me about the way of living that actually was the government of this small villages. That is exactly how they learned to live and follow rules in a civilized world. I have never read a book written about the Penitentes, where the author actually saw and or experienced their way of living. Our language and culture has been preserved for hundreds of years because of this secret society. They are the ones that brought the Castilian Spanish to our area. The purpose of this book is to share how our culture, morals, and values were being developed in a very low profile way of living, and their way of living by their strong ways still exists in our small rural communities. This book can be read by many different people who have a wide variety of interests. They may be interested in the area, or they may want to learn a very different way of how a village functioned many years ago, how the villages were formed, and the purpose and responsibility of everyone in their individual village. I believe our culture has been denied or our real way of living for hundreds of years was wrongly described. I believe my book will attract different people who have interest in culture, ethnics, history, and how the real Hispanics lived hundreds of years ago, a totally different form of government that worked just fine for the people who lived in these areas. I believe my book is unique and very culturally related to all Hispanics.

É um período de 40 dias (excluídos, portanto, os domingos) que vai até 29 de setembro, encerrando-se com a festa dos Santos Arcanjos Miguel, Gabriel e Rafael. A origem dessa devoção está ligada à vida de intensa penitência de São Francisco de Assis. Quando ele se converteu, entrou para a Ordem dos Penitentes, sendo que um dos períodos especiais em que Francisco se mortificava era justamente o dos quarenta dias anteriores à festa de São Miguel Arcanjo. La tercera edición de este evento fue llevada a cabo virtualmente y además de contar con el talento de los estudiantes, tuvo la colaboración del artista 3D, Daniel Molina y la cantautora guatemalteca, Gaby Moreno, que se encargó de la composición musical. En la conferencia, siete estudiantes nominados expusieron los proyectos desarrollados durante el curso y el proceso de elaboración del video mapping: “Leyendas de Guatemala”. La narrativa de esta creación guarda la esencia de la leyenda de la Llorona, el Cadejo, el Carruaje de la muerte, la Siguanaba, los Penitentes de la Recolección, la Tatuana y el Sombrerón.

Or representatives of the Penitentes, an unofficial Catholic sect the journalist was investigating and that was known for its acts of flesh mortification and violence?

His principal interest is in New Mexico Territory from the Mexican War up through the Civil War. It was an exciting period when the land was new and isolated from the rest of the country and violence ran at its high mark. Following leads from source to end he is learning about the Santa Fe Trail, the Fur Trade, the Mexican and Civil Wars, the Apache, the Penitentes and percussion cap weapons. “I've found that the way to know history is to learn about the tools people used, the landscape, the trails, the climate and the economics of the times until the options open to people begin to make sense. I try to express that both in fiction and history writing.”

Marta Weigle is a regents’ professor in the Department of Anthropology at UNM. She recently edited “Telling New Mexico – A New History with Frances Levine and Louise Stiver.” The book, meant to accompany the opening of the new History Museum in Santa Fe, may also be used as a textbook in the study of the history of New Mexico. In this interview with Karen Wentworth, Weigle talks about gathering the material for the book and how many of the elements came to be included. Weigle has also written a number of other books, including “Brothers of Light: Brothers of Blood;” “The Penitentes of the Southwest;” “Santa Fe and Taos: The Writer’s Era, 1916-1941” (with Kyle Fiore); “New Mexicans in Cameo and Camera: New Deal Documentation of Twentieth-Century Lives;” “The Lore of New Mexico” (with Peter White); and “Spanish New Mexico: Engineered Enchantment 1921-2001.”
