Character Corner - A Podcast on Your favorite Comic Book Characters
We’re finally back with another Character Corner. Sorry for the delays, been having a lot going on outside of the network and so it’s taken us a while to get back to where we need to be. We’ll definitely be back to a more normal schedule in 2019. We do have a schedule for the rest of 2018 and it’s as follows: Ultimate Spider-Man Part 2 (Hi) The Legacy of Stan Lee Doom Patrol Aquaman Part 1 & 2 Now let’s get into the conclusion of Ultimate Spider-Man... It can’t be understated just how much tragedy Peter Parker suffers and that it's important that it's Peter that suffers it and not just Spider-Man. Because Peter matters in these stories, his sense of responsibility is not only real but backs up the motto "With Great Power There Must Also Come Great Responsibility". Peter doesn’t get the luxury that other heroes have, particularly as a teenager. In the back half of Ultimate Spider-Man, we watch as Peter struggles to keep his identity secret (and doing a poor job) and be a high schooler. One thing that's incredible about the life of Ultimate Universe Peter Parker is that from the moment he's bit to his death, it's really only about 2 years in story. In that context. The back half of ultimate spider-man can be viewed as peter trying to juggle his life as everything falls apart around him For this episode we're breaking this out volume by volume (Volume 11 - 22 of Ulimate Spider-Man) and point to some of the important pieces in each volumes. Then we’ll treat the final issues after Ultimatum (becomes Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) as one big block leading up to, spoiler alert, the death of Peter Parker. Since this episode turned out to be pretty long (just under 2 hours) we decided to keep our Stan Lee discussion separate and it will be released on the Character Corner feed later this week. Make sure you subscribe! https://oembed.libsyn.com/embed?item_id=7557074 Issues: Volume 11 Carnage Volume 12 Superstars Volume 13 Hobgoblin Volume 14 Warriors Volume 15 Silver Sable Volume 16 Deadpool Volume 17 Clone Saga Volume 18 Ultimate Knights Volume 19 Death of a Goblin Volume 20 And His Amazing Friends Volume 21 War of the Symbiotes Volume 22 Ultimatum Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Like what you hear? In this episode, Kevin Moreau and “Ultimate” Curt Holman return to the Ultimate Universe to discuss the origin of the popular biracial Spider-Man, Miles Morales in the second half of an unofficial Ultimate Spider-Man two-parter, this time reviewing Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #1-5 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, published by Marvel Comics! When young Miles Morales is bitten by a genetically modified spider, he quickly develops the ability to turn invisible and cling to walls, among other things. Miles wants no part of these awesome powers, wishing only to live a normal life and do well at his new charter school. But when Miles witnesses the tragic death of Spider-Man, he begins to realize that with great power comes great responsibility! In this episode, Curt and Kevin prime the pump for the Oct. 5 release of the Venom feature film with a discussion of the sinister symbiote's origin story -- that is, as portrayed in issues 33-39 of Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, published by Marvel Comics! Peter Parker's childhood friend Eddie Brock reveals that their fathers were working on a cancer-fighting super-suit shortly before they died in a mysterious plane crash years earlier. When Peter investigates, the suit bonds with him, making him more powerful, and soon attempts to turn him into a homicidal monster! When the suit bonds with a vengeful Eddie Brock, can Peter hope to prevail against this stronger, bloodthirstier version of himself -- and save his friend in the process? And can he swing his way into that worldwide web of comic book stories known as … The Comics Canon? Prepare yourself for the most shocking Spider-Man story you will ever read! Young Peter Parker has led a heroic life, and tried to live by the simple and powerful philosophy that with great power comes great responsibility - but will that philosophy be enough to save him from the horror that awaits him here? This is easily the most important story in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN history - and maybe the most important story in the Ultimate Universe. Who better to illustrate it than Ultimate Spider-Man legend Mark Bagley, making his mighty Marvel return in The Death of Spiderman Next week Miles Morales IS the new Spider-Man! What's the secret behind his powers, and how will he master them? What new and familiar enemies will rise to challenge this all-new Spider-Man? And will Miles live up to Peter Parker's legacy? Phew, it's been a little while since we had a "Joe reads comics" minisode for you - so here's a catchup from the Dredd and Spider-Man: Homecoming episodes. That's the classic Dredd stories The Dark Judges and The Day the Law Died (and yes, we maybe didn't explain this to Joe beforehand but we know that "John Howard" and "T.B. Grover" are pseudonyms for John Wagner and Alan Grant!); the first two volumes of the Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli; and Amazing Spider-Man: Civil War by J. Michael Straczynski and Ron Garney. There's also a roundup of recent news, but we've steered clear of SDCC stuff as we'll be covering that with a bonus episode later in the week! 00:00 - Intro/News 16:42 - Judge Dredd: The Day the Law Died / The Dark Judges 27:52 - Amazing Spider-Man: Civil War 36:54 - Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (2011) Vols 1-2 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This month, Shooting the Poo is honoured to welcome legendary comics creator Stan Lee onto the podcast. Stan turns Mitch and Mondy into superheroes and sets the usual high-toned conversational standard that our audience have come to expect. He also says the word "cock". This episode is the spiritual sequel to our earlier examination of the works of Grant Morrison and Alan Moore and features three authors whose names happen to end in "is": Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis and Brian Michael Bendis. Aside from their names ending in "is", they're also quite talented, although that doesn't stop Dave giving Transmetropolitan the kicking it so thoroughly deserves. Mondy also flashes his man-boobs at his fellow 'casters at one point. This has nothing to do with comics, but nevertheless remains a highlight. Lastly, a quick explanation: on our previous podcast Mondy alluded to his preferred topic being vetoed this month. It was. That preferred topic was crapping on about DC Comics' New 52 relaunch. Dave objected to this on the extremely reasonable grounds that those comics were largely written by bargain-basement hacks and he certainly wasn't going to read 52 comics that he knew were going to be arse-gravy. When Mitch struck upon the genius "is" replacement theme (ie: reading comics by writers that were actually good), Mondy was overruled and the topic of the New 52 was consigned to the dustbin, never to be spoken of again. Or so we thought. Listeners at home can play a game we like to call New 52 Bingo. The rules are that you count how many times the New 52 is mentioned in this podcast even though none of the writers we're ostensibly discussing have any involvement in it whatsoever. Then send us some feedback with a suggested punishment for Mondy for ignoring the veto. The winner will get a night on the town with Stan Lee. That wasn't a quick explanation at all, was it? Oh, and Kirstyn pops up again. Ardent feminist that she is, she gives a superlative review of a comic about a superpowered prostitute, and she and Dave have a fight about Transmetropolitan. There's hair-pulling and everything. Excelsior!!! WARNING! This episode of Shooting the Poo features extremely coarse language and spoilers for the following comics. If you've not read them - and we recommend you do - you may want to check them out before we give plot points away: Preacher (in particular stuff that happens in the first three trade paperbacks) The Authority (stuff that happens in Warren Ellis' last issue) Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (you've probably heard about it on the news, but the new relaunch by Bendis has a particularly big development that would be nifty not to know about if you're going in cold) There's also a spoiler for a major character death in Ultimate Spider-Man Stormwatch (stuff that happens towards the end of Ellis' run) and Miracleman (Alan Moore's last three issues). Please go and tell Apple via iTunes that you love the show or provide us feedback here at shootingthepoo@gmail.com We would love to hear what you have to say.

Part 2 of our chat with 3D Generalist, Christian. We relax and chat television and movies. Could the budget for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. be $5? Would you lose your British accent after 200 years? Podcasters & guest all agree Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is more like Agents of Sleep. Christian & Chris are still trying to like Constantine. For whatever reason, we all love Forever. Paul says Lucas from Forever is playing the same part he played in Bones. While Chris compares him to Johnny from Airplane! Christian digs The Flash, the newest superhero TV show because of the main villain who was the lead in a past TV show called, ED. The crew lament the scripts, dialogue and drama of Arrow. Christian recommends The Killing. Paul and Christian talk about Gracepoint which is based on a british show called Broadchurch. Both shows have the same star and previous Doctor Who, David Tennant. Chris recalls that an actor from The Killing was a topic of conversation in a recent Flophouse podcast episode. Christian says we should all check out Manhattan. Paul’s wife chooses to watch Salem over our bad movies on the other podcast, FilmFrown. Christian is happy with the Marvel films, but not big on the other studios with Marvel products, like The Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men films which are currently owned by Sony & Fox. Chris, Paul and Christian agree the first Captain America film is a Marvel misfire. They don’t even begin to discuss the awful that is the Wolverine films. When Gwen Stacy died, Marvel comics went from the Silver Age to the Bronze Age and it was a big deal. Christian & Paul talk Ultimate Spider-Man while Chris risks getting political to wish a listener in Mexico well. Thanks again to Christian for joining us. You can see samples of his work from his “old site” at christianday.net. Thanks for listening, we hope you’re in the Pole Position this week. Support Montreal Sauce on Patreon
