Tune in here to this Friday edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the show with Pete Kaliner for this week’s Friday Hangover; they discuss the political fallout surrounding North Carolina’s newly passed “Iryna’s Law” and Attorney General Josh Stein’s evasive interview with CNN’s Dana Bash. Brett and Pete highlight Stein’s inability to take a firm stance on the bill, especially given its death penalty provision, and criticize what they see as weak Democratic messaging on crime and public safety. We're joined by Dr. John Lott from the Crime Prevention Research Center to talk about anti-Semitism and bias in crime reporting. a recent report from the Anti-Defamation League that claims all extremist murders from 2022 to 2024 are committed by right-wing individuals. He questions the report’s accuracy, pointing out that some attackers listed have left-wing views or don’t fit any clear political category. He highlights the Buffalo supermarket shooter, who calls himself an “eco-fascist,” and the Colorado Springs shooter, who identifies as transgender and a socialist. Despite this, the ADL labels them as right-wing. Dr. Lott argues that this is done for political reasons, not based on facts. He also explains how media outlets like CNN and NPR repeat this narrative without looking deeper. We're also joined by Joe Gruters, newly appointed Chairman of the Republican National Committee, to discuss his plans for the party and the upcoming 2026 elections. Chairman Gruters shares his vision for building on the momentum created under former chairman Michael Whatley, emphasizing voter registration, turnout, and election security as top priorities. He highlights the success of Florida’s Republican leadership and plans to apply that winning formula nationally. Gruters also discusses law and order, criticizing left-wing policies that he says have led to increased crime and instability, citing recent violent incidents as examples. He praises President Trump’s leadership on public safety and the economy and says strong messaging on issues like taxes, inflation, and border security will help Republicans expand their House majority and win key Senate races. Gruters also emphasizes the importance of supporting Michael Whatley’s Senate run in North Carolina, calling him “the right person at the right time.” Listen here for all of this and more on The Brett Winterble Show! Tune in here to this Friday edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by talking to Pete Kaliner on the latest edition of The Friday Hangover. Brett commends Pete for not using the term "system fail" during the final segment of his Friday show. Pete explains that he avoids the phrase because he doesn’t want to give Charlotte leaders the opportunity to use it as an excuse to deflect from real issues. Later, we're joined by RNC Hispanic Communications Director Jaime Florez to discuss Hispanic Heritage Month and how President Trump is resonating with the Hispanic community. Florez begins by praising Trump’s efforts to curb illegal immigration at the southern border. He also highlights how many Hispanic immigrants who are in the U.S. legally take pride in celebrating and sharing their cultural heritage. In addition to his conversation with Director Florez, Brett also speaks with Breaking Brett Jensen, who provides updates on the ongoing fallout surrounding the death of Iryna Zarutska. Throughout the rest of the show, Brett covers a range of other stories, including the conviction of a former NASA scientist for mortgage fraud, the emergence of a mysterious “warm blob” in the Pacific Ocean, and the theft—and melting—of a 3,000-year-old Egyptian bracelet. Tune in here to this Friday edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by speaking with Pete Kaliner on the latest edition of The Friday Hangover. He begins the discussion by asking whether the "Luigi Effect", also known as "falling in love with criminals", might take hold in the case of Tyler Robinson, the shooter who killed Charlie Kirk. Pete responds by noting that it’s already happening, pointing to people on social media who are celebrating Kirk’s death. He adds that this kind of behavior began with Luigi Mangione, and that many who praised his actions faced no reputational consequences. Brett and Pete go on to discuss the resurgence of fascistic rhetoric in Right-wing politics, the radicalization of Tyler Robinson, and Pete’s recent visit to the local NPR station. Later, Brett shares a message of hope for America in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder. To illustrate this, he highlights the enduring presence of the Christian Church, an institution that has stood strong for over two thousand years. He also condemns those who are celebrating Kirk’s killing, pointing out a common trend among them: they believe their social media posts are hidden or anonymous, but in reality, they are not. In the second hour, Brett is joined by former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley to discuss his thoughts on the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. Whatley emphasizes that it’s important to remember Kirk as a family man, a husband and father of two. He expresses relief that authorities have arrested Robinson, noting that it brings a sense of closure to the American public. Brett and Whatley also discuss how the “whatever it takes” mentality is unacceptable, particularly when it comes to dealing with political disagreement and personal anger. We're also joined by American Sniper author Scott McEwen to discuss the murder of Charlie Kirk and the state of America following the 24th anniversary of September 11. McEwen, who knew Kirk personally, was deeply affected by his death. He describes Kirk as an unassuming man who lacked ego and carried himself with humility. McEwen even compares Kirk's death to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., arguing that both men were influential figures who preached a message of love during pivotal times in American history. Just as Dr. King spread a message of unity and compassion, McEwen notes that Kirk did the same when speaking at events and engaging with students on college campuses. When reflecting on September 11, Brett points out that McEwen was close with Chris Kyle and others who defended America's freedom in the aftermath of the attacks 24 years ago. He asks McEwen whether America is safer now or a larger target for terrorism. McEwen responds that our target is growing, because America remains a beacon of light to the rest of the world. Tune in here to this Friday edition of The Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the show with Pete Kaliner for the long-awaited Friday Hangover! They discuss escalating global tensions, narco-terrorism, and what they see as the revival of the Monroe Doctrine under President Trump. The conversation kicks off with bold claims about Trump targeting cartels and quickly evolves into a spirited back-and-forth on U.S. foreign policy, Venezuela, China, and the potential for a new world war—jokingly dubbed "World War Five." Brett and Pete also dive into the idea of America reasserting control in the Western Hemisphere, while throwing in humor, historical references, and media commentary. There’s even a brief debate over Marco Rubio’s political evolution and breakdancing potential. We're joined by Phil Kerpen from American Commitment to talk about the state of the U.S. economy and the growing instability within the Federal Reserve. Kerpen breaks down the latest jobs report, calling it weak and riddled with major downward revisions that undermine confidence in the Bureau of Labor Statistics. He highlights declining federal employment and the upcoming removal of deferred-resignation employees as economic positives. Kerpen also slams the Fed under Jerome Powell, citing lavish spending, internal dysfunction, and chronic failure to meet inflation targets. Looking ahead, he predicts a likely rate cut, though warns that without federal spending cuts, long-term interest rates like mortgages won’t fall. The conversation ends with a sharp take on AI’s impact on entry-level tech jobs and advice for young people to pursue trades that are less vulnerable to automation. Tune in here to this Friday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the show with Pete Kaliner for this week’s Friday Hangover; they discuss the surge in immigration enforcement under the Trump administration and the news that ICE is hiring 10,000 new agents. Brett points out that ICE currently employs around 21,000 people, with only about 6,500 deportation officers, making the expansion a major boost to enforcement efforts. The two dive into the politics behind the move, with Pete suggesting that building up ICE now could be a hedge against a future Democratic president dismantling the agency’s workforce We’re joined by Father Bill Nicholas to talk about the tragic attack in Minneapolis and how faith communities are processing the aftermath. As a Catholic priest, Father Bill reflected on the deep personal impact such violence has, especially when children—the future of the Church—are targeted. He emphasized the importance of prayer in times of crisis, not as a dismissal, but as a grounding force that prevents rash, counterproductive responses. Brett and Father Bill also discussed the media’s treatment of Christian victims compared to other groups, and the dangers of rhetoric that can fuel instability and violence. Father Bill shared personal experiences of disruptions during Mass in San Francisco, underscoring the need for vigilance and preparation while remaining rooted in compassion and forgiveness. He concluded by reminding listeners of the enduring truth of traditional values and offered a special blessing for families and travelers heading into Labor Day weekend. Tune in here to this Monday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! With Brett out today, Pete Kaliner fills in by kicking off the program by talking about the recent fatal stabbing on a Charlotte Lynx light rail train and the troubling criminal history of the suspect. Kaliner breaks down the case involving 34-year-old Dick Carlos Brown, who is accused of murdering 23-year-old Irina Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee who fled her war-torn country in 2022. Brown has a long rap sheet spanning nearly two decades, with prior convictions and multiple recent arrests. Kaliner criticizes the justice system for allowing Brown to remain free despite clear signs of mental instability. He also notes the lack of response from city officials, especially in light of their push for a sales tax increase to fund more transit projects. Kaliner argues the city's focus should be on public safety first, highlighting a failure in leadership and priorities. Listen here for all of this and more on The Brett Winterble Show! Highlighting countries like Germany, the U.K., and France, Brett underscores how minimal enlistment rates, financial instability, and domestic unrest have left NATO allies ill-prepared to support Ukraine or deter Russian aggression. The discussion takes a serious turn as Brett and Pete explore the challenges of confronting authoritarian leaders like Vladimir Putin and examine the credibility of American leadership on the world stage. Later, Brett delivered a powerful monologue that cut through decades of foreign policy missteps with surgical precision. Reflecting on the legacy of U.S. diplomacy post-Cold War, Brett examined the broken promises made to Russia—specifically the verbal assurances that NATO would not expand eastward—and how those disregarded words helped lay the groundwork for today’s conflicts. He traced the path from James Baker’s fateful statement to the rise of NATO, the 2014 Crimea annexation, and the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Through pointed references to key players like Victoria Nuland, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama, Brett painted a sobering picture of arrogance masquerading as diplomacy. He emphasized that it’s the ordinary people—not elites—who suffer when global powers play geopolitical chess. Ending with a firm call for humility in leadership and real efforts toward peace, Brett reminded listeners that principle without reflection becomes empire. Tune in here to this Friday edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the show with Pete Kaliner for the long-awaited Friday Hangover as they discuss the Bloomberg report suggesting the U.S. and Russia may be close to a truce that cements Putin’s current territorial gains in Ukraine. The two dissect the political fallout such a deal could trigger, including speculation over Trump potentially receiving a Nobel Peace Prize. They debate whether Biden’s alleged weakness and entanglements enabled Putin’s aggression, and how history might have been different had Trump served consecutive terms. Later Brett reflected on the passing of Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell, celebrating his legendary leadership and pioneering spirit in human spaceflight. At 97, Lovell left behind a legacy of courage, optimism, and inspiration. Brett tied Lovell’s story to NASA’s recent discovery of a coral-shaped rock on Mars, billions of years old, prompting a broader question to listeners: can we still do great things? Tune in here to this Friday edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by talking with Pete Kaliner about a lack of open jobs, despite a "roaring" economy. Next, Brett shares a clip from "Morning Joe", in which the host downplays Donald Trump's success in executing deportations at the Southern Border compared to the deportations that Joe Biden and Barack Obama had during their Presidencies. Pete hypothesizes that the host got lost in the logic of the point that he was trying to bring to the table. This leads Brett and Pete to discuss whether this clip contributes to the argument about the importance of quality over quantity when it comes to deportations. Then, the two go on to discuss whether Biden used an autopen to deport illegal immigrants. Pete shares that he found out that one of the Biden staffers testified under oath that he signed off on every pardon and bill that came across his desk. He goes on to remark that this is most likely not true, since this means he would have to physically sign his name on each individual document. Leaving the CCP in power of one of the most influential social media apps among the youth of America for even longer. This app is wall-to-wall "brain rot" videos that sexualize young people, push dangerous trends, and radical political views; there is certainly other content that isn't entirely negative, but by and large, this app is used as a Chinese psyop against the United States. Tune in here to this Friday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program with this edition of The Hangover w/ Pete Kaliner. Brett and Pete discuss the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran The two delve into the implications of such targeted operations, praising the intelligence capabilities required and the silent approval from regional players like Saudi Arabia. They also highlight the broader message of deterrence behind the operation: any future nuclear launch from Iran could result in destruction from within. Shifting focus, Brett and Pete raise serious concerns about national security at home, specifically North Carolina’s delay in restricting foreign ownership of land near military installations. In studio, we have Jim Artman from Resilient Recovery of North Carolina to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis following Hurricane Helene. Months after the storm devastated Western North Carolina, thousands of residents remain displaced—many living in tents, sheds, or cramped campers. Jim shares with Brett the stark reality of disaster recovery: destroyed homes, impassable private roads, and families at risk of losing their children due to unlivable conditions. His organization, alongside partners like Project Your Home and Hope Mill, is leading the charge in long-term recovery—rebuilding infrastructure and providing housing solutions where state resources fall short. With over 3,000 homes destroyed in some counties alone, the scale of the challenge is immense. Jim emphasized the importance of collaboration, community, and preparedness moving forward. Listeners are encouraged to support these critical efforts by visiting ResilientRecoveryNC.org. This conversation serves as a sobering reminder that the storm’s aftermath is far from over.
