Welcome back -- one-and-all! -- to Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, the Brothers Moriarty welcome LSM's executive producer Dustin Furman and associate producer Ben Smith to the show. Topics are varied, per usual. Colin starts things off by reflecting on Last Stand itself, and inquires how the boys think the company is doing, what we might change, and how we may look in the future. Dustin has a deep and abiding love of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, widely considered some of the finest films ever crafted. Will these movies forever stand the test of time? Ben's been wondering, as of late, if he may have what it takes to try stand up comedy at open mic night. Should he take the plunge? Finally, Dagan chronicles his experiences with both ghosting and being ghosted. Have we been abandoned by people in our lives? Or are we the ones doing the abandoning? Bevat Spider-Man Remastered co-op multiplayer? It's 20 years since the launch of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings so Matthew devotes the whole of this week's programme to one of the most ambitious of all film scores - Howard Shore's remarkable 10 hour Wagnerian epic. Matthew is joined by the musicologist Doug Adams who worked alongside the composer deconstructing some of the incredibly complex ingredients that constitute Shore's musical story-telling. It's a system based on Richard Wagner's leitmotif, where musical themes and statements are used to represent characters and ideas in the films. When these themes are combined and varied symphonically, they present a complete aural picture of the narrative to complement and enhance the story on the screen. Together, Matthew and Doug unpick some of the main musical ideas in Shore's score and reveal just how far-reaching the music for LOTR is.

Me And Michael Price talk about all things music, including our work with Michael Kamen, his work with David Arnold and much more. We also talked about the composition process. Michael Price:Michael Price is one of the UK's most sought after composers. This ambitious musical project takes in a series of iconic National Trust locations across England as its inspiration, turning them into unlikely recording spaces.Michael's work for film and television has been also widely recognised, winning an EMMY award in 2014, and Royal Television Society, Music&Sound, and Televisual Bulldog awards as well as a BAFTA nomination and 2 further EMMY nominations for the critically acclaimed BBC series Sherlock, which he scores with David Arnold. Other recent TV projects include the 4th season of BAFTA-winning crime drama Unforgotten and the BBC's new Dracula adaptation, created by Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss.Prior to achieving acclaim as a composer himself, Michael enjoyed significant achievements as a music editor on a number of blockbuster films such as Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Richard Curtis' Love Actually, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men. As a music editor, Michael has been nominated for 4 MPSE Golden Reel Awards, winning in 2001 for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.https://www.michaelpricemusic.com/

David Grubbs moderates a discussion about the varieties of epic, the nationalist ideologies that motivate some of the theories of epic, the relationships between novels and epics, and how all of these discussions inform the Christian Humanists' common sense that most movies claiming to be epic movies are nearly unwatchable. Among the authors, texts, and movies discussed are Homer, Virgil, Beowulf, Hudibras, Troy, King Arthur, Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movies, Garden State, and 300.
