It's important that our elections earn the confidence of American voters. In recent years fraud allegations, lawsuits, and elections rules changes have cast doubt on the integrity of our elections. Thankfully, groups like Public Interest Legal Foundation and the Foundation for Government Accountability are working hard to ensure elections are administered fairly. In this episode of Giving Ventures, Peter checks in with J. Christian Adams of PILF and Madeline Malisa of FGA for a post-election breakdown. Together, Christian and Madeline address issues like mandatory voter identification, ranked-choice voting, and the importance of holding elections for one day only rather than letting ballots trickle in for weeks after Election Day. J. Christian Adams is president and general counsel for Public Interest Legal Foundation. He also serves as commissioner of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity and previously served in the Voting Section at the United States Department of Justice. Madeline Malisa is a Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Government Accountability, where she is a policy and legal expert on election and initiative integrity. Prior to joining FGA, she served as chief counsel to Governor Paul LePage in the State of Maine.

In this episode of Two Lawyers Walk into a Bar, Lee Bergstein and Cooper Knowlton sit down with Ira Leesfield, the founder and managing partner of Leesfield Scolaro, a personal injury firm with offices in Miami, Key West, South Beach and Central Florida. Mr. Leesfield is one of the most prominent personal injury attorneys in the country, who was nominated as "Lawyer of the Year" by the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, after he obtained a $19.8 million verdict against Honda Corp., and selected as one of America's Top Ten Trial Lawyers. During this conversation, Mr. Leesfield talks about how an eviction notice set him on the path to becoming a lawyer, his time in the Army and Justice Department, and how a chance meeting on a flight led him to personal injury work. He also chats about his friendships with the likes of Jimmy Buffett and President Bill Clinton, and talks about his time working in the Clinton Administration, where he was part of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and the Presidential Advisory Commission on Holocaust Assets. Mr. Leesfield has led a fascinating life and we feel lucky to be able to share this conversation with all of you. We hope you give it a listen. Hosted on Acast. When it comes to election integrity, the states are where the real action is. Hans von Spakovsky joins today's episode of The Kevin Roberts Show to give an overview of wins for election integrity in the states, the Biden administration's continued effort to undermine those reforms, and what to expect during the midterms. Learn more about Heritage's Election Integrity Scorecard. This week's guest: Appointed by President Donald Trump to the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity in 2017, Hans A. von Spakovsky is one of the foremost legal minds on election integrity. Before joining Heritage in 2008, von Spakovsky served two years as a member of the Federal Election Commission, the authority charged with enforcing campaign finance laws for congressional and presidential elections, including public funding. On Tuesday April 26th I received an email from YouTube that one of my episodes with Heritage Foundation expert Hans von Spakovsky was being removed for “misinformation”. They stated that they “think” that my conversation with Hans on election integrity “violates our misinformation policy” So just how did my content violate their misinformation policy? YouTube explains:How your content violated the policyContent that advances false claims that widespread fraud, errors, or glitches changed the outcome of the U.S. 2020 presidential election is not allowed on YouTube.I want to note that our discussion did not include who we think won or didn't win the 2020 election. Rather, we stated that there are legitimate concerns of voter fraud in the nation, and that they happen on the federal, state, and local levels. Now YouTube went on to said and I quote “Because it's the first time, this is just a warning. If it happens again, your channel will get a strike and you won't be able to do things like upload, post, or live stream for 1 week.”YouTube wants to silence any discussion about voter fraud. And apparently they consider themselves to be the authority on this issue. However, YouTube is not the great arbiter of truth and should refrain from acting as if it is.YouTube reversed their decision AFTER a Daily Signal Exposé by journalist Douglas Blair was published. You can read that here: https://www.dailysignal.com/2022/04/27/youtube-bans-video-featuring-conservative-expert-on-voter-fraud/Hans von Spakovsky is the Heritage Foundation's Manager Election Law Reform Initiative and Senior Legal Fellow, Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. And while going to law school, he interned for then-Congressman Randy Forbes. He will discuss how Big Tech even sided with the Communist Party of China over fact and reason. Michael will also discuss how the lame stream media protects Biden from being associated with his policy failures, and how the media ignored the scandal of Biden's Education Secretary soliciting the letter that falsely accused parents of being “Domestic Terrorists.”

Voter suppression is a strategy used to influence the outcome of an election by discouraging or preventing specific groups of people from voting. It is distinguished from political campaigning in that campaigning attempts to change likely voting behavior by changing the opinions of potential voters through persuasion and organization. Voter suppression → attempts to reduce the number of voters who might vote against a candidate or proposition. The Tactics of Voter Suppression range from minor changes to make voting less convenient, to physically intimidating and even physically attacking prospective voters, which is illegal. Limiting the amount of places to voteLimiting the time one can voteNot having voting be compulsory but where you must register and keep information accurately updated works against engaging younger votersShutting down Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices in minority neighborhoods,Making it more difficult for residents to obtain voter IDsShutting down polling places in minority neighborhoods; Systematically depriving precincts in minority neighborhoods of the resources they need to operate efficiently, such as poll workers and voting machines; and purging voters from the rolls shortly before an election US HISTORY OF VOTER SUPPRESSION: First you had to own property→ white males ONLY Jim Crow years: poll tax, literacy test, and grandfather clause- to prove your grandfather had been born in the US- repressing slaves In Texas 2016: a voter ID law requiring a driver's license, passport, military identification, or gun permit, was repeatedly found to be intentionally discriminatory-- PRECISION OF SUPPRESSION: Student IDs could not be used as IDs In Wisconsin under Scott Walker: imposing strict voter ID requirements, the law cut back on early voting, required people to live in a ward for at least 28 days before voting, and prohibited emailing absentee ballots to voters In Iowa: Lawmakers passed a strict voter ID law with the potential to disenfranchise 260,000 voters. Out of 1.6 million votes cast in Iowa in 2016, there were only 10 allegations of voter fraud; May 2017: President Donald Trump established the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, purportedly for the purpose of preventing voter fraud. Critics have suggested its true purpose is voter suppression. Kansas secretary of state: Kris Kobach, a staunch advocate of strict voter ID laws and a proponent of the Crosscheck system. Crosscheck is a national database designed to check for voters who are registered in more than one state by comparing names and dates of birth. Researchers at Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, and Microsoft found that for every legitimate instance of double registration it finds, Crosscheck's algorithm returns approximately 200 false positives..... Kobach has been repeatedly sued by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for trying to restrict voting rights in Kansas FELONS ARE CITIZENS TOO: Across this country today, an estimated 5.8 million Americans – 5.8 million of our fellow citizens – are prohibited from voting because of current or previous felony convictions. That’s more than the individual populations of 31 U.S. states The upcoming 2020 election has huge consequences and everyone needs to get out their ad do their civic duty, but what if you can't find your polling place, or found out that it has moved across town and you don't' drive. Maybe your state requires a photo I.D. or you can't afford to miss work? Unfortunately, these are the realities voters face. Be INFORMED, help others understand, and fight for your right to vote. Matthew Dunlap is Maine's Secretary of State. He also served on the Trump administration's Presidential Advisory Commission on Electoral Integrity. It was formed in the aftermath of Trump's claim that 3-5 million illegal votes were cast for Hillary Clinton. In this episode, Dunlap details that there was an obvious mandate to manufacture evidence of voter fraud. Independent-minded members, such as Dunlap, were stonewalled by the commission. You'll be alarmed by the details. He eventually sued the government to simply be allowed to participate in the commission. In this interview, he went in-depth about the legal battles, debunked the myth of widespread voter fraud, and called out the political operatives who are creating this false narrative. Also, Dunlap's legal challenge prevailed in the courts. As a result, we can all view the documents from the commission, which prove that it was driven by a clear political agenda, not the truth. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rackets/support
Some races are still too close to call this evening after voters hit the polls in several states yesterday. In Ohio's 12th, it's too close to call. In Kansas for governor, it's also too close to call. Missouri voters decided against becoming a right-to-work state. In Michigan, Rashida Tlaib became the first Muslim woman to be elected to US Congress after winning the Democratic primary. So, what's going on here, and what are we to make of it? The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced a 25 percent tariff on $16 billion worth of US goods, including certain vehicles, fuel and fiber optics. China said today it will retaliate against the latest round of U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports. Can China win a trade war? Documents reveal that President Donald Trump's claims of voter fraud are unsubstantiated and his defunct voter commission was misleading in its agenda. In May of 2017, President Trump announced his Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, declaring it would find widespread evidence of 3-5 million fraudulent ballots, but just the opposite happened. In a letter addressed to Vice President Mike Pence and Chris Kobach, Maine's secretary of state, Matthew Dunlap says he joined the commission in good faith but left questioning the intent of the study and thinking the lack of evidence reveals a troubling bias. On today's episode of The Critical Hour, Dr. Wilmer Leon is joined by Greg Palast, investigative reporter and author of several New York Times bestsellers, including The Best Democracy Money Can Buy and Armed Madhouse, to talk about what's at stake in today's primaries. One of the most closely watched races will be in Kansas, where President Trump is backing Chris Kobach, the former vice chairman of his failed Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, against the advice of his aides. Democrats see a Kobach victory as an opening. Americans have until today to speak out and tell the Commerce Department how they feel about a question of citizenship on the 2020 Census. For the first time since 1950, the U.S. Census Bureau is planning to ask everyone living in the United States whether they are citizens when it conducts its next decennial census in 2020. Anticipating that some immigrants might avoid answering the question, the Trump administration wants to try using other government records to fill in missing responses. What does this mean for the immigrant community going forward? It's day six in the trial of Paul Manafort. President Trump's onetime campaign chairman is on trial in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, on bank and tax fraud charges. Prosecutors allege that he failed to pay taxes on millions of dollars he made from his work for a Russia-friendly Ukrainian political party, then lied to get loans when the cash stopped coming in. Manafort's former business associate Rick Gates took the stand again today. We've got all the messy details and what it all means. On this week’s episode of Versus Trump, we discuss the litigation against the newly-created Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, that has Kansas Secretary of State—and repeat defendant in voting rights litigation—Kris Kobach as its now-infamous Vice Chair. We begin by explaining the creation of the Commission, which has a stated goal of “reviewing the integrity of elections in order to protect and preserve the principle of one person, one vote.” But, as we note, many people think the Commission is little more than a front to deliver a report detailing potentially exaggerated risks of voter fraud, and that report could then provide a basis to enact legislation that could make it substantially more difficult for many Americans to register and vote. We then [at 8:00] discuss a major lawsuit claiming that the Commission’s request for information from states about hundreds of millions of voters violates privacy laws, and we wonder where the litigation might go. Next [at 22:00], we discuss a variety of other lawsuits against the Commission, including those claiming it violates transparency laws, that its entire existence is suffused with racial discrimination, and that Kobach violated a federal prohibition on using his office to promote his candidacy for governor of Kansas. The episode closes [at 34:00] with a quick reflection on one of Jason’s favorite passages from the Declaration of Independence. Please share or provide feedback, and rate us in iTunes. In the News President Trump signed an Executive Order on Strengthening the Cyber security of Federal networks and Critical Infrastructure. The order is meant to enhance the government’s cyber security and help protect critical infrastructure from cyber attacks. The order also seeks to treat federal IT as an enterprise while leaving protection responsibility on the shoulders of agency heads. Additionally, federal agencies must use the National Institute of Standards and Technology framework to assess and manage cyber risk. Homeland Security Adviser, Tom Bossert, introduced the executive order and provided some concerns about cyber threat trends.
