I visited Victoria Falls, which dwarfs Niagara, the extraordinary Table Mountain, and several wildlife reserves including Kruger National Park. The jeep rides through the brush yielded close encounters with female lions shepherding their cubs, male lions sleeping off meals, a leopard in a tree crunching the skull of an impala, herds of piously maternal elephants — only one of which came close to charging us — and a dozen other species of predator or prey. The high point, I'll confess, was one wildlife encounter in particular: when a troop of baboons charged the outdoor diners at The Black Marlin in Cape Town, driving them to flee, so the apes could stuff their faces with pilfered pasta. The Book of Nature I hope that I'm sufficiently grateful for this encounter with the baroque, sublime abundance of biology that our planet is privileged to host — alone, so far as we know, among the billions of planets. Gratitude should be aimed at a giver, and it was reading the works of Discovery Institute authors that made this easier for me. I could wonder at the tiny penguins that somehow survive in the Mediterranean climate near the Cape of Good Hope, or the birds that live symbiotically with wildebeests by feeding on bloodsucking insects, without the deflating idea lurking in the back of my mind, “This all the result of blind chance and iron necessity, with no crafting intelligence behind it.” Instead, I saw works of art, and found myself thanking the Artist. I was reading the Book of Nature, and seeing in it glimmers of divine action, intention, and generosity — as “natural philosophers” did from Kepler and Newton to Pasteur and Mendel. Back when I unreflectively adhered to the theistic (really deistic) evolution that's preached in most Christian pulpits, I accepted the notion that God was somehow behind every aspect of the cosmos. If pressed, I would have said that God had “guided” or “instigated” the emergence of extraordinary creatures like the zebras that stared at our jeep, the elegant kudus that capered past us through the veldt, the wild dogs that seemed at once so alien and so familiar that it was tempting to hop out and try petting them. (“Do not attempt this,” I was informed by our solemn African guide.) But all of life was at best a convoluted Rube Goldberg contraption, which Someone had set in motion then stepped away to observe. God even had humans in mind — deciding, for some reason, to slowly evolve His earthly image through a long chain of predecessor species, until at some point He chose to implant both rationality and immortal souls in creatures who'd mutated in and then emerged from the womb of an animal. I used to speculate about how that allegedly worked, and how I could reconcile it in some fashion with the Genesis account of God making man directly from the dust of the earth, and woman from his side. I remember thinking, lamely, “Maybe they were identical twins … and He switched Eve's sex before the ape gave birth to them?” Then I stopped bothering, encouraged by modern priests who treat not just Genesis but most of the Old Testament as mostly wholesome mythology, akin to that found in Bulfinch or Edith Hamilton. Christianizing Darwinists Obeying the dictum of 19th-century “Higher Criticism,” Christianizing Darwinists aim to explain away every claim of miraculous action — from the direct creation of man to the parting of the Red Sea, from Jesus' virgin birth to even his Resurrection. I was taught in high school that the last, most crucial Christian miracle, amounted merely to the “ongoing presence” of Jesus in his apostles' hearts and minds. Big whoop. In that sense, Adolf Hitler is still sadly with us. (If you want an account of how and why biblical critics crafted such blinders, read Scott Hahn and Benjamin Wiker's magisterial Politicizing the Bible, which I edited for publication.) Priests, theologians, bishops and even (recently) popes have responded to the popular triumph of Darwinism by dismissing most of the events recounted in Genesis as purely allegorical and moral. Keen to avoid being tarred as “fundamentalists,” and encouraged by some cautious leeway granted to evolutionary thinking by popes such as Pius XII and John Paul II, most Catholics have eagerly accepted that Darwin's theories fully explain the emergence of every living species, even man. Otherwise-orthodox believers have made this intellectual concession, convinced that “the science” is irrefutable, so the theology must make room for it. But what if, in fact, the science is very shaky, and the implications for a Christian worldview profoundly toxic? Those are the questions asked and convincingly answered in a new book, Creation or Evolution? A Catholic Dilemma. It's written in an extremely engaging format — a series of questions posed by science journalist Steve Greene and answered by theologian Rev. Michael Chabarek, O.P. It was Chaberek's previous book, Aquinas and Evolution, that convinced me to take intelligent design seriously, and embark on the journey through the works of Stephen Meyer, Michael Behe, Douglas Axe, and many others — to my profound intellectual and spiritual enrichment. This new book is every bit the equal of Chaberek's earlier work. He lays out the serious evidential weaknesses in the Darwinist claim to have explained the appearance of human beings by incremental mutations from previous apelike species. (For much more detail than this book offers, see Science and Human Origins, from Discovery Institute Press, which Chaberek cites.) He explains how circular logic and wishful thinking pervade the claims of paleontologists to have discovered non-human ancestors for our species, with periodic claims to have found a “missing link” based on tiny bone fragments of indeterminate origin. False First Principles But Chaberek's main focus is not on empirical flaws or gaps in the Darwinist account. Instead, he focuses on the false first principles that motivate, even compel Darwinists to invent their “just so” stories in the first place. Here's a sample of the straightforward, plain-speaking way that the authors convey key philosophical issues: If man did not come from the ape, then how did he come into existence? First, let us consider whether sciences such as paleontology and genetics are actually capable of providing an answer to this question. If man came into existence naturally, then, yes, because science explains the workings of nature. But if man came into existence supernaturally, that is, by the action of divine power exceeding the power of nature, then science cannot explain the beginning of man. Therefore, whether science can provide an answer to this question does not depend on scientific research, but on the previously adopted religious or philosophical assumptions. Chabarek argues convincingly that secularist and materialist assumptions precede and determine the scientific work of Darwinists, essentially forcing them to deny evidence of design, and to make impossible claims for the creative power of mutations — despite the overwhelming odds against blind chance happening upon even a single useful new protein in the entire history of life on earth (as Douglas Axe showed in exhaustive experimental detail in his book, Undeniable). When such bias-inducing reductionist assumptions migrate from the research papers of laboratory scientists into the works of Christian leaders, the consequences are even more baleful, Chabarek warns. If such a central question as the origin of the only rational species, the “image of God,” is to be surgically excised from the domain of religious authority and turned over to materialist scientists, what is to stop that same debunking impulse from undermining every mystery of faith? Should we leave Sarah's miraculous conception of Isaac to the gynecologists, the parting of the Red Sea to the oceanographers, and the resurrection of Jesus to the biologists? That's the inexorable logic of Christians who cling to Darwinist explanations of the “descent of man” from ancestral apes. Far better, Chabarek advises, for Christians who accept a long series of miracles and mysteries as entailed in the redemption of humanity to also make room for the Bible's literal account of the miracle of his creation — from the dust of the earth, by the hand of God. But in fact, it never was. At every point since the invention of the Left/Right spectrum in the fevered, bloodthirsty frenzy of the French Revolution, the Left has been a post-Christian heresy. It's a cargo cult that cherrypicks from the gospels shiny moral sentiments and glittering aspirations, like the work of some mindless magpie. A New Rival Gospel Never mind that Jesus's moral mandates would be literally nonsensical if He was not divine and couldn't offer eternal rewards for self-sacrifice in this life. (Try explaining “Turn the other cheek” to Ghengis Khan and then get back to me; I'd love to hear how that goes. The meek did not inherit the Mongol Empire.) Nor that claims of “equality” among all men only hold up if we mean “in the eyes of God,” since in our own sight we're vastly diverse and manifestly unequal. Even the militantly atheistic, self-styled “scientific” Communist Utopia millions were willing to kill for was cooked up by Karl Marx as a thinly secularized knock-off of the New Jerusalem. Read historian Norman Cohn's authoritative The Pursuit of the Millennium to learn how Marx's program replicated the crackpot claims of self-anointed “prophets” who roused the rabble to murder the priests and pillage the local Jews. But Leftists are born with the same God-shaped hole in their souls as everyone else, so they plunder the Gospel to fill it, picking only the bits and pieces that please them to make a kind of taxidermied replacement Christ fashioned in their own image. These false Christs or antichrists are invariably cast as victims, waved around as banners, and finally used as cudgels … to pummel actual Christians. First the Peasants, Then the Workers The original radical Leftists of the French Revolution held up “the peasants” as the suffering souls for whom they fought — even as the revolutionary government waged a vicious, genocidal war against the real, live peasants of the Vendee region, killing some 300,000 for the crime of clinging to their Church, instead of the fake one the government had set up and imposed on them. A hundred years later, Karl Marx and his movement would claim the international working class as the victims whom they'd champion against the ruthless exploitation of capitalist oppressors. But Marx would fiercely oppose any moderate reforms that would improve workers' real lives, since these might slow down the bloody revolution he needed to impose Communist rule. His followers would fight against any labor unions they couldn't control. Of course, once the Communists seized power in Russia, then other countries, they would enslave the workers and peasants alike, putting them to work in state-owned monopolies, closing their churches, and subjecting them to totalitarian surveillance and persecution. The New Antichrist Idols: “Persecuted” Immigrants The present face of Leftist false religion manifests as a trinity: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and its ersatz Christ figure is the immigrant. Marxists and tribalists paint immigrants as victims of climate change, Islamophobia, and dictatorial governments. Cheap labor globalists depict them as rough and ready workers whose ethic is better than the sullen, spoiled American natives ripe for replacement.   The media, besotted by their new post-Christian creed, like to select which immigrant stories to tell, the better to paint the Trump administration and its backers as heartless, intolerant, ignorant racist bullies. But Trump's team has been clever, having learned from the debacle of 2017, when their efforts to protect child migrants from human traffickers got painted as “separating families” and “putting kids in cages.” So the administration focused its first removal efforts on gang members, rabid antisemites and jihadists, confident that diversity-happy editors and lawless federal judges wouldn't be able to restrain themselves — but would lionize and try to paint as wounded, hapless puppies the worst immigrants on Earth. Poor, Poor Pitiful Jihadis The Left took the bait. Look at the latest “victims” these apostles of counterfeit Christian compassion have decided to paint as martyrs: The equally radical, equally illegal immigrant relatives of the vicious jihadi who used arson to target a Jewish event to aid Holocaust survivors (one of whom he burned to death), Mohamed Sabry Soliman. Mass media can't help themselves. They're too driven by religious zeal: Of course, the facts of the case fall by the wayside in all this jerry-rigged empathy: Collecting Slaves for Sex Traffickers So the Left will go to the wall for privileged, middle-class, jihadi Muslims who blew through their tourist visas and stayed in our country so their patriarch could incinerate Jews who'd escaped the Nazis. You know who the Left won't talk about? The 300,000 unaccompanied minors smuggled into our country and sent to whoever wanted them, with no vetting or DNA tests for alleged relatives. (Joe Biden abolished that.) How are things going for those migrants, who aren't incinerating American Jews? Gateway Pundit gives us a glimpse: A 37-year-old illegal immigrant, Wilson Manfredo Lopez-Carillo, was arrested in Palm Beach County, Florida, for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl placed in his home through the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) “Unaccompanied Alien Children” (UAC) program. According to the Daily Wire, the arrest was made on May 22, 2025. According to charging documents from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Lopez-Carillo faces three counts of sexual assault on a minor. The victim, who arrived in the U.S. in August 2023 as an unaccompanied minor, was sent by HHS to live with Lopez-Carillo and others in a loosely vetted household.   Police reports detail a horrifying pattern of abuse, with Lopez-Carillo allegedly taking advantage of the girl's isolation to assault her on multiple occasions in February 2024.   On one occasion, while the adult woman in the household was out selling tamales to support the family, Lopez-Carillo allegedly grabbed the teen in the kitchen, dragged her to his bedroom, and sexually assaulted her.   A second incident followed a similar pattern, with the predator offering the girl $100 to stay silent — an offer she bravely refused. In case you've blotted those ugly memories from your mind, let's review what happened in the aftermath of the botched arrest of career criminal George Floyd:   The police officers involved were immediately pulled from duty, then quickly arrested and charged. The System was working. There was literally nothing to riot about, except the vague and tendentious claim that “systemic racism” was killing black Americans. The Marxist group Black Lives Matter used Floyd's accidental death as a bloody shirt to wave around, demanding (and getting) hundreds of millions of dollars from large corporations to spend however it wished (for instance, on fancy homes and salaries). Conservative pundits and churches adopted that organization's mantra and offered uncritical support — desperate to establish their “antiracist” bona fides and protect their reputations. A series of coordinated “protests” erupted across the country, demanding that governments defund the police. Over and over, these protests turned violent, devolving into riots that saw the looting of neighborhoods poor and rich alike. Our media gaslit us with reports that these events were “mostly peaceful,” even as fires lit by arsonists raged on camera in the background. In blue states like Minnesota and California, Democrat governors who were savagely enforcing COVID lockdowns allowed the rioters to run free — pulling police from the scene and refusing to use their National Guards to protect citizens and their property. This was the starkest example of anarcho-tyranny in U.S. history … until the January 6 fedsurrection, that is. People who sneered when black entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Herman Cain died of COVID after attending a Trump campaign event and insisted that in-person voting was too dangerous to be allowed defended the riots publicly from the charge that they were “superspreader events.” Their excuse? “Racism is a threat to public health.” Trump did not federalize the National Guard in those rogue states to impose law and order. Like many of his supporters, and likely the advisors who convinced him to remain inert, I reasoned, “Let the blue cities burn. We'll make sure the federal government doesn't pay to rebuild them. The Left is trying to trap Trump into overreacting by using force in the hope that civilians will suffer and he will look like the dictator they've been calling him since Election Night 2016.” I now realize Step 6 was a huge mistake, as I'm sure Trump and his team had the chance to reflect on during the four years of lawfare and chaos they all endured under The Secret Committee Formerly Known As Joe Biden.   Now, we need to analyze why this is true so we can give full-throated support to restoring the rule of law today.   Abandoning Territory to Marxist Gangs Is Wrong Donald Trump is president of the entire United States, and he works for every American. That includes law-abiding citizens in blue states and cities who might not support mayors and governors committed to flouting U.S. laws on immigration, citizenship, and public order. Trump represents the harried, hunted police who work in Los Angeles and the taxpayers forced to fund the health care, education, and even transgender treatments of millions of illegal aliens the Biden regime let in.   We're supposed to love our neighbor. At minimum that includes our fellow Americans — even those deluded enough to believe that we owe citizenship and welfare payments to foreigners who broke into our national home. Just as we shouldn't hand out free heroin to addicts and shrug at the thought that they might OD, we shouldn't hand anarchy to Californians and Minnesotans, even if it's what they say they want. “Stinks to be you” isn't a New Testament maxim.   When Moderation Looks Like Weakness, It Is Weakness Letting blue cities burn or sink in their own squalor sounds tempting. However, it's not just a crime: it's a blunder, as political philosopher Yoram Hazony points out.   The spectacle of U.S. cities roiling with chaos, falling into the hands of Leftist mobs waving foreign flags, makes America look weak and vulnerable in the eyes of its foreign enemies. Furthermore, it makes any president who presides over it seem like a wounded, crippled giant. That was true in 2020, and it's even truer today — when the riots are aimed not at some nebulous, made-up bogeyman like “systemic racism” or “whiteness,” but directly at the law enforcement policies that got Trump elected and are, rightly, very popular: mass repatriation of blatantly illegal aliens.   These riots are aimed at Trump as a leader and his voters as citizens. They are armed, organized efforts to deprive the U.S. government of its legitimate monopoly on violence in large swathes of its territory. If Trump isn't willing to take every legal, constitutional measure to crush them and punish the perpetrators, he might as well resign right now and flee with his family into exile like the former Shah of Iran. Of course, that would leave all of us under a revolutionary tyranny every bit as ugly as Iran's.   Mobs Follow the Strong and Scorn the Weak It's a sad fact of fallen human nature: A high percentage of people don't join causes or adopt opinions because of rational argumentation, or even moral sentiments. People flock to the strong and steadfast, and naturally feel contempt for those who lack the courage of their convictions.   One of the main reasons that George Washington became first a national hero, then our leader in the fight for independence, was his obvious personal fearlessness. Bullets whizzed past him, shot through his hat and even his coat, and he was unperturbed. By contrast, the rival General Horatio Gates who sought to replace Washington at the head of the Continental Army disgraced himself by fleeing a 1780 military defeat at Camden, S.C., leaving his beaten troops behind. Trump can't afford to do the same today.   Please Support The Stream: Equipping Christians to Think Clearly About the Political, Economic, and Moral Issues of Our Day. Even thugs who stand for evil ideas can gather a following for their bravery. In their case, it's the gumption of bullies, and attracts other would-be bullies. But that's how warlords have triumphed all too often for millennia.   The thugs of illegal alien mobs, backed by the bullies in power in cities like Los Angeles, are counting on decent people to hide in their homes and on Trump to hide in the White House. We cannot let these lawless, unpatriotic, un-American mobs raise foreign flags over our cities. A full-on showdown between the Trump administration and the out-of-control federal courts.   It has gotten clearer by the day that a conspiracy of biased federal judges and left-wing nonprofits with teams of white-shoe lawyers has been operating to cripple the executive branch of government. The unprecedented use of judicial orders to hamstring and micromanage President Donald Trump's exercise of presidential power has created a constitutional crisis — amounting to a coup d'etat by unelected judges. Try to imagine if GOP-appointed judges had conspired to kneecap Barack Obama while he was in office. The nation would have been treated to earsplitting banshee cries of “racism,” judicial impeachment hearings, and well-funded riots in blue cities.   Don't believe me?   Remember the threats by members of Congress against Supreme Court justices when the decision overturning Roe v. Wade got leaked? (By whom, we'll never know). Think of the protests outside conservative justices' homes, and the near-miss assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The Democrats tried to pack the court with new, preprogrammed leftist justices and talked about imposing term limits on SCOTUS. None on the left were warbling about the sanctity of “judicial independence” and “the rule of law” then. They only believe in the System when they can game it, like some bratty child demanding “do-overs” whenever he strikes out at bat.   No One's Above the Law Democrats were chanting “No one's above the law” when they invented fake crimes to try to imprison Donald Trump in New York, an effort led by Chief Justice John Roberts' crony Norm Eisen. The same Democrats are now suffering conniption fits as Attorney General Pam Bondi takes action against judges who committed genuine offenses. Let's look at the first two arrests, and pray that more follow wherever judges are flouting the law and undermining our democracy. CNBC reports:   Federal authorities have arrested a Wisconsin judge and a former New Mexico judge in two separate cases, accusing them of interfering with Trump administration immigration enforcement efforts.   Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested Friday morning and charged with obstruction. She is accused of helping an undocumented immigrant evade arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers after he appeared in her courtroom April 18.   Dugan's arrest came one day after federal authorities arrested a former New Mexico judge, Joel Cano, and his wife on charges related to the Canos' reported harboring of an undocumented immigrant with alleged ties to the notorious gang Tren de Aragua.   It's hard to decide which of these arrests is more satisfying.   Before she became a judge who would help smuggle illegal aliens out of her courtroom to evade arrest by ICE, Dugan was formerly the executive director of Catholic Charities of southeastern Wisconsin. As The Stream has reported, that particular wealthy, taxpayer-funded nonprofit has been credibly accused of colluding with Mexican cartels to traffic immigrants into the country. Elon Musk's DOGE investigations have largely cut off government funds to Catholic Charities, which served as the main conduit for some $3 billion sluiced into the U.S. Catholic bishops' coffers over the past 15 years — reimbursing them, almost dollar for dollar, for sex-abuse settlements those bishops racked up.   Fool around, find out, indeed. Next there's the case of former judge Joel Cano, who was keeping an accused Tren de Aragua gang member at his house. Feast your eyes on this servant of the court and the rescue gangster he adopted:   On Fox News Pam Bondi explained just how far Cano had gone to help Lopez evade prosecution:   He took one of the TDA members' cellphones, beat it with a hammer, and destroyed it. Then he walked the pieces to a city dumpster to dispose of them to protect himself. … The judge and his wife gave [Lopez] assault rifles that belonged to their daughter. He goes to the shooting range with these assault rifles, with a suppressor, with other known TDA members, and they are shooting. This is the LAST person we want in our country. Nor will we ever tolerate a judge or anyone else harboring them.   The Biden regime intentionally engineered this perfect storm of lawlessness by refusing to enforce our just, democratically enacted immigration laws. The 10 million-plus illegals Biden imported are counted toward congressional representation, providing the Democrats with 20 seats in the House of Representatives they otherwise wouldn't hold, as Musk has estimated. And as we reported Friday, leftist judges are making it easy for those illegal aliens to vote in federal elections by striking down Trump's executive order requiring proof of citizenship.   When faced with such orchestrated chaos, the Trump administration has no choice but to take drastic action to reimpose order and the genuine rule of law. Trump Meets Zelensky at Impromptu Summit at Pope Francis's Funeral The petulant, demanding president of Ukraine, Volodomyr Zelenksyy, has been frustrating Donald Trump's peace-making efforts, making impossible demands such as the return of Crimea — which Russia seized in 2014, with hardly a protest from the Obama administration and no organized resistance by Ukraine. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed the Trump team's impatience last week, threatening to walk away from talks altogether. It's good to see that communications are still open, as evidenced by this hastily arranged meeting of Trump with Zelenskyy and French President Emanuel Macron at St. Peter's Basilica, which will host the funeral of Pope Francis.   Pray for an end to the futile, fratricidal conflict the Biden administration's bungling help to spark, which has claimed more than a million casualties from two historically Christian countries.   Our Diversity Is Our … Strength? Our out-of-control borders haven't just been flooding the country with foreign gang members and high school dropouts who compete with our least privileged fellow citizens for jobs. We're also importing aggressive, intolerant Islam — the religion that's fueling terrorism and the persecution of Christians all across the world. The Founders never intended it as a charter for the mass influx of religions entirely alien to our traditions. No Need to Prove Citizenship to Vote By John Zmirak Published on April 25, 2025 John Zmirak If you want Exhibit #108 proving that President Donald Trump has no choice but to defy judicial orders from lawless, biased jurists, check out the latest. The Daily Wire reports: A federal judge on Thursday blocked President Donald Trump from implementing an executive order that requires voters to show documentation proving their U.S. citizenship to cast a ballot in federal elections. U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, a Bill Clinton appointee, granted a preliminary injunction stopping the Trump administration from going forward with the proof-of-citizenship requirements as a lawsuit plays out, the Associated Press reported. The lawsuit, filed by the Democratic National Committee and leftist voting rights groups, claims that Trump's order is “an unlawful action that threatens to uproot our tried-and-tested election systems and silence potentially millions of Americans.” … The judge's move means that yet another Trump action will be tied up in the courts and prevented from taking effect. Federal judges have blocked numerous Trump orders, including on cuts to federal agency staff, deportations, and birthright citizenship. As of Thursday, 108 different rulings have blocked or temporarily frozen Trump's attempts to carry out his agenda, according to The New York Times. There you go. The Democratic National Committee wants non-citizens voting. Or else it thinks that its voters are so clueless and unqualified that they don't have any ID. No drivers licenses, nothing they'd need to show in order to cash a check at a local bank. Check out this classic 2017 video whose host asks white liberals whether non-white Americans carry ID … then asks a series of non-white Americans whether they do. “Why would they think we don't have ID?” one of the questioners asks the host. He doesn't answer. He doesn't have to. Now consider what motive the Biden administration had for importing more than 10 million illegal aliens and sending them to swing states. Foreign Voters and Foreign Money Help the Left Grab Power While some in MAGA world are frustrated at the Trump administration's pace of progress, one man can only do so much. He is taking aim at some of the most important targets, the key players in corrupting American politics. He's going after Act Blue, for instance, as Politico reports: In a shot at ActBlue, the left's major online donation platform, President Donald Trump plans to sign a presidential memorandum on Thursday that he will cast as cracking down on foreign contributions in American elections, according to a person familiar with the policy and granted anonymity to discuss not-yet-public details. Attorney General Pam Bondi's office is expected to be involved in the effort, the person said. The order is expected to specifically target ActBlue. Republicans have long claimed the platform could be exploited by foreign actors, while Democrats have warned the action is an example of Trump baselessly targeting political opponents. … The memo will direct Bondi to “investigate and take appropriate action concerning allegations regarding the use of online fundraising platforms to make ‘straw' or ‘dummy' contributions and to make foreign contributions to U.S. political candidates and committees, all of which break the law” and report results to the president and his general counsel, according to the fact sheet. Why shouldn't foreign billionaires and hostile governments be able to pour billions into U.S. elections and organize non-citizen voters to decide who represents us? That would imply we make distinctions between countrymen and strangers, which the editors of Christianity Today (some of them donors to groups aligned with Act Blue) reliably inform us is alien to “gospel values.” Speaking of funny money, Ashley Biden's nonprofit is having trouble with the IRS. That's what happens when you don't report honestly. The Free Beacon has the real story: Ashley Biden's charity has a $500,000 discrepancy in its books, a watchdog alleged in a complaint filed with the IRS on Monday. … To Paul Kamenar, an attorney with the National Legal and Policy Center watchdog group, the documents show that Ashley Biden's charity clearly violated IRS rules by failing to disclose $500,000 in contributions it received in 2023. It can't reach a stopping point at “consenting adults,” the way Classical liberals pretend. Either the government will make laws based on the Natural Law which God wrote on the human heart — which you don't need faith or grace to understand — or it will base laws on something darker and falser. As the Gospel recedes from people's hearts, the vacuum it leaves will be filled, and filled by spirits. I'm not following the conclave that's gathering to elect a successor to the disloyal Pope Francis, largely because the people he appointed to the College of Cardinals transformed that body into a lavender Jacuzzi. One of Francis's appointees, Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, is considered a frontrunner among “progressives” who wish to continue transforming the Catholic Church into the chaplaincy of the World Economic Forum. Catholics don't believe that God picks the popes — otherwise, we'd have to explain why during the Renaissance He always picked the cardinals who'd paid the biggest bribes or were the illegitimate children of previous popes. We just have to pray for Jesus to protect us from our shepherds, who seem to have developed a taste for lamb. Proposed outdoor trials may involve spraying aerosols into the upper atmosphere or artificially brightening clouds to bounce sunlight back into space in order to help cool the earth. … The experiments are being pushed under the premise that humanity isn't cutting emissions quickly enough to avoid an environmental apocalypse, at least, according to scientists still clinging to worst-case climate scenarios. These people want to control the weather, to make the earth less fertile so it can feed far fewer people. U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, a Bill Clinton appointee, granted a preliminary injunction stopping the Trump administration from going forward with the proof-of-citizenship requirements as a lawsuit plays out, the Associated Press reported. The lawsuit, filed by the Democratic National Committee and leftist voting rights groups, claims that Trump's order is “an unlawful action that threatens to uproot our tried-and-tested election systems and silence potentially millions of Americans.” … The judge's move means that yet another Trump action will be tied up in the courts and prevented from taking effect. Federal judges have blocked numerous Trump orders, including on cuts to federal agency staff, deportations, and birthright citizenship. As of Thursday, 108 different rulings have blocked or temporarily frozen Trump's attempts to carry out his agenda, according to The New York Times. There you go. The Democratic National Committee wants non-citizens voting. Or else it thinks that its voters are so clueless and unqualified that they don't have any ID. No drivers licenses, nothing they'd need to show in order to cash a check at a local bank. Check out this classic 2017 video whose host asks white liberals whether non-white Americans carry ID … then asks a series of non-white Americans whether they do. “Why would they think we don't have ID?” one of the questioners asks the host. He doesn't answer. He doesn't have to. Now consider what motive the Biden administration had for importing more than 10 million illegal aliens and sending them to swing states. Foreign Voters and Foreign Money Help the Left Grab Power While some in MAGA world are frustrated at the Trump administration's pace of progress, one man can only do so much. He is taking aim at some of the most important targets, the key players in corrupting American politics. He's going after Act Blue, for instance, as Politico reports: In a shot at ActBlue, the left's major online donation platform, President Donald Trump plans to sign a presidential memorandum on Thursday that he will cast as cracking down on foreign contributions in American elections, according to a person familiar with the policy and granted anonymity to discuss not-yet-public details. Attorney General Pam Bondi's office is expected to be involved in the effort, the person said. The order is expected to specifically target ActBlue. Republicans have long claimed the platform could be exploited by foreign actors, while Democrats have warned the action is an example of Trump baselessly targeting political opponents. … The memo will direct Bondi to “investigate and take appropriate action concerning allegations regarding the use of online fundraising platforms to make ‘straw' or ‘dummy' contributions and to make foreign contributions to U.S. political candidates and committees, all of which break the law” and report results to the president and his general counsel, according to the fact sheet. Why shouldn't foreign billionaires and hostile governments be able to pour billions into U.S. elections and organize non-citizen voters to decide who represents us? That would imply we make distinctions between countrymen and strangers, which the editors of Christianity Today (some of them donors to groups aligned with Act Blue) reliably inform us is alien to “gospel values.” Speaking of funny money, Ashley Biden's nonprofit is having trouble with the IRS. That's what happens when you don't report honestly. The Free Beacon has the real story: Ashley Biden's charity has a $500,000 discrepancy in its books, a watchdog alleged in a complaint filed with the IRS on Monday. … To Paul Kamenar, an attorney with the National Legal and Policy Center watchdog group, the documents show that Ashley Biden's charity clearly violated IRS rules by failing to disclose $500,000 in contributions it received in 2023. These people want to control the weather, to make the earth less fertile so it can feed far fewer people. In case you haven't heard it, the piece is a highly operatic setting of the historic Catholic funeral Mass, composed by the irreligious Giuseppe Verdi to mourn the death of his closest friend.   The music was exquisite, the performers were among the most talented in the world, and I was comfy in a seat in the lavish Avery Fisher Hall. But one thing set my experience apart from most of my fellow music lovers': I believed in every word the singers were delivering — even if the singers didn't and Verdi himself had not.   One part of the text of the Dies Irae seems plucked from our current headlines: The section that centers on evils getting exposed, driven into the light. At the General Judgment, every sin ever committed will be unmasked for all to see — so that both God's justice and His mercy will be obvious to each soul ever created.   Nature sickens with dismay, Death may not retain its prey; And before the Maker stand All the creatures of his hand. The great book shall be unfurled, Whereby God shall judge the world; What was distant shall be near, What was hidden shall be clear.   We are seeing before us today in our country a faint foreshadowing of that great, world-ending exposé. The corruption, perversion, waste, and even hate that pervaded our government agencies and the institutions led by our self-selecting elites are all getting driven out into the light, thanks to the stern measures imposed by President Donald Trump.   Please Support The Stream: Equipping Christians to Think Clearly About the Political, Economic, and Moral Issues of Our Day. Neither a Spirit of Fear Nor of Vengeance No, Trump isn't God, or even especially godly as far as we can tell. That bothers me for his sake, but not for ours. Constantine saved the early Church from persecution despite his personal sins, and Charles Martel saved Europe from the Muslim hordes with the bloodstained hands of a war lord. However, insofar as a legitimate earthly ruler wields the sword on God's behalf, becoming “the legitimate avenger of crimes,” a just ruler can do God's will as surely as the Church does in its own quite separate sphere.   As we watch the violent antics and lawless abuses of power by the Left unfold in response to Trump's perfectly reasonable efforts to trim down the government and cease its persecution of ordinary citizens, we shouldn't be consumed with worry, afraid he will fail. Nor should we give in to a spirit of vindictiveness, taking a sadistic glee in the suffering of our enemies, however well-deserved.   Instead I think we ought to treat this political moment as a little window on the end of time, when every evil is dragged kicking and screaming into the light, even our own. As we pray for this great purge of political filth to fully succeed for the benefit of our nation and our neighbors, keeping such an apocalyptic perspective will help us avoid falling into the Enemy's snares, which he scatters plentifully both on the Left and on the Right.   With all of that said, let's review some of the skeletons the Trump team is tossing or driving out of our oligarchs' reeking closets.   Road Ragers and Vandals Target Tesla Owners and Their “Nazi Cars” The kind of people who pride themselves on their “compassion” for illegal immigrants, sexual eccentricities, and the government of Ukraine are showing much less tolerance and charity for their fellow Americans — targeting not just people who disagree with them politically, but total strangers who happened to buy a certain brand of car. Owners of Teslas who might not have cared or even known about Elon Musk's political views are now getting menaced on highways, seeing their vehicles vandalized, and otherwise living in fear. Here's one of the worst incidents:   Cowardly attacks on unattended Teslas are happening across the country, quite possibly as part of a coordinated effort along the lines of the Antifa and Black Lives Matter protests that savaged America's cities five years ago. And our chattering classes are gibbering their approval like a squadron of flying monkeys, as Joe Rogan reports:   Trying to Commit Murder by Police Other violence aimed at conservatives and Christians entails the criminal abuse of police that's colloquially called “SWATting.” That entails making an anonymous call from an untraceable phone to the police, claiming that an “active shooter” is present at the home of some political enemy — then sitting back and watching the news to find out if you successfully got that person, his spouse, or his children gunned down by the cops. Who's getting subjected to such attacks? One victim was gifted Christian author Larry Taunton:   Gateway Pundit reports on another potentially grim incident:   InfoWars host Owen Shroyer became the latest victim of a “swatting” incident at his home in Austin, Texas in what he calls a “terrorist attack” perpetrated by leftist extremists.   A fake police report claiming Shroyer had shot someone led to a full-blown armed raid on his residence, with at least a dozen officers storming his home with weapons drawn. …   Shroyer pointed fingers directly at the Democrat Party, naming names and calling for federal authorities to act.   “We know what's going on. The Democrat Party and all of their little street thugs — funded by Act Blue, stolen money from USAID, George Soros, and other groups — are behind it. They are behind the terror attacks against Elon Musk,” he said.   Keep in mind that just two weeks ago Shroyer's colleague, Jamie White, was murdered while on assignment reporting about leftist political violence.   Let's offer prayers of gratitude for the professionalism of the police who managed these incidents, and for protection of nonviolent American citizens just trying to go about their lives at a time when a spirit of savagery seems to have been let loose on our nation.   Canceling Elections Our elites aren't quite at the point where they can just cancel elections and jail the conservative candidate, as recently happened in Romania (perhaps with the collusion of American Deep State conspirator Anthony Blinken, according to Diplomatic Affairs.) Our political class was blindsided by Trump's 2016 win, and responded by spraying our media with the manufactured filth of the faked Steele Dossier to push the hoax that Trump was somehow “colluding” with Vladimir Putin's Russia — a charge that led to one of the two fraudulent impeachment efforts aimed at Trump. The rulers of Mordor weaponized the COVID panic to impose a public health dictatorship, lock us in our homes, close our churches, censor our media, force untested vaccines into our arms, kill our seniors by dumping virus patients in nursing homes, then incincerating them as medical waste, graft the cells of newly aborted babies onto the scalps of mice (using taxpayer funds, approved by Regime evangelical Francis Collins, never criticized by globalist Pope Francis), steal the 2020 election, and imprison peaceful protestors. The people who did all that weren't misguided, overzealous, or grossly misinformed. They were orcs, and their leaders were Nazgul. They were hungry for absolute power — and for a while they seemed to have it. At least they acted that way — as if the whip would always be in their hands no matter what we did. That's why such people felt entitled to gloat when patriotic black entrepreneur Hermann Cain died of COVID after attending a Donald Trump rally, even as they unleashed mobs of looters and rioters on our cities in honor of career criminal George Floyd. And now those same elites are using their top-notch legal teams and biased judges to cling to every scrap of money and power they took from us during the years of that dictatorship the same way that Communist judges in Poland clung to their privileges after Solidarity got elected and loyal Nazis tried to keep their privileges after 1945. How else to explain a federal judge telling the appointed, duly confirmed Secretary of the Treasury that he can't view his own department's computer files? Or demanding that race-based discrimination be reimposed — against the president's policies? As I watched The Return of the King, with Frodo and Sam cautiously working their way into the heart of Sauron's kingdom, aiming to hurl the corrupting Ring of Power into the fires where it was forged, I couldn't help thinking of the hobbits attempting to do the same for us right now: Elon Musk and his plucky team of brilliant young hackers and analysts. They're the ones exposing the “humanitarian” programs of USAID that tried to convince young African boys that they might be trans, to intimidate Latin American governments into legalizing abortion, and to censor the global media in support of the COVID lockdowns and the useless Ukraine war. Just yesterday, the news broke that in only three weeks, they've saved American taxpayers a BILLION dollars — the vast majority of it coming from cutting DEI efforts within government programs. And now Musk's team members are being hunted, getting doxed and demonized in our media, with corrupt prosecutors and judges seeking ways to cripple their efforts and maybe even arrest them (as they arrested and imprisoned Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro). What can we do on these heroes' behalf? First of all we can pray, and it's our duty to get busy doing that. Secondly we can emulate what Aragorn, Gandalf, and the other heroes did after defending Minas Tirith: They marched to Sauron's gate, braved the full force of his armies, and took his attention away from the genuine threat he faced. We must do a similar service for Trump and his team. We must loudly support whatever peaceful measures, whatever innovative deployment of presidential power he attempts, to defy these biased judges and impose the will of the people — as expressed in the 2024 election, which the orcs weren't able to steal. Pope Francis Goes Full Alexander VI, Appointing Leftist Bishops Who Wield Excommunication Threats A pope more interested in leftist politics than in maintaining his church's historic teachings or protecting children from harm has started meddling directly in the enforcement of our country's just, democratically enacted laws: The Vatican has appointed Edward Weisenburger to be Archbishop of Detroit. As Lifesitenews reports: In 2018, at the USCCB's Spring Assembly in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the prelate suggested that Catholics who “are involved” in the detention of immigrants and separation of families at the U.S. border might receive “canonical penalties” usually used in “life issues” cases, which could include excommunication. “For the salvation of these people's souls, maybe it's time for us to look at canonical penalties,” Weisenburger claimed at the time. In other words, if you're a Catholic who advocates for a secure U.S. border and only legal immigration going forward, this guy wants to see you excommunicated. Make no mistake, Weisenburger spent the COVID panic serving the Nazgul and the orcs: The 64-year-old Weisenburger, a canon lawyer, was among the most stringent in America in applying restrictions on the faithful during the COVID crisis, closing churches and implementing mask mandates in the spring of 2020 while encouraging Catholics to take the abortion-tainted COVID-19 jabs. Weisenburger released a statement in September 2021 instructing all priests within his Arizona diocese “not to cooperate with any individuals seeking our endorsement of an exemption from vaccine or facemask mandates based specifically upon our Catholic faith.” He added that “[a]ll current anti-COVID-19 vaccines may be received by the faithful without moral compromise.” Upon reopening churches to public Masses in October 2020, the bishop stressed that the dispensation from attendance “remains in place and I have consistently encouraged those identified by the Centers for Disease Control as ‘at-risk' to not attend Mass in person, but rather to view a televised or internet Mass from home.” He also issued a directive to priests not to distribute Holy Communion in the mouth and to only hear the Sacrament of Confession outdoors. Later, in 2021, Weisenburger signed a letter alongside eight other U.S. prelates aligning themselves with the LGBT activist group Tyler Clementi Foundation, which seeks to “reduce the shame and stigma” of homosexual lifestyles. In line with Pope Francis, the archbishop-elect has also made “climate change” a central issue, calling it a matter of “life and death” and thanking the Pope for focusing on the topic in his encyclical Laudato Si' and subsequent apostolic exhortation Laudate Deum. The Pope Rebukes J.D. Vance for Repeating Real Catholic Doctrine Pope Francis has gone further, issuing a document implicitly rebuking Vice President J.D. Vance (a Catholic convert) for reiterating traditional Catholic (and perennial Christian teaching) that we owe special duties to our families, neighbors, and fellow citizens that we don't owe to foreign invaders or fake asylum seekers. In his statement, Francis condemns “any measure that tacitly or explicitly identifies the illegal status of some migrants with criminality.” Never mind that the Catholic Catechism teaches that to earn the right to welcome, immigrants must obey their new countries' laws. According to Francis, doing illegal things isn't “criminal,” and if you can't wrap your mind around that logic, you might find yourself outside the church. Will patriotic Catholics cave at the threat of unjust (and therefore in God's eyes, null and void) excommunications? Elon Musk and former British Prime Minister Liz Truss have now weighed in on this, so the British establishment knows it can't imprison everyone who complains about the estimated 250,000 native British girls who've been gang-raped and trafficked in just 10 years, disproportionately by Pakistani immigrants. “Your Daughters Are Already Whores” What drove these Muslim imports to think they were entitled to sexually enslave Christians, apart from the long Muslim tradition of sexually enslaving Christians? (By the millions, via the Muslim white slave trade that continued for centuries.) This X post explains the phenomenon in light of Pakistan's inbred, intensely patriarchal culture: These hundreds of thousands of rapes — many inflicted on minors — were committed with total impunity, with local police and Labour politicians winking at the abuse, rejecting the pleas of victims and even in some cases arresting the hapless parents who tried to rescue their daughters. How and why could this happen? It was supposedly to prevent the rise of racism and avoid helping right-wing politicians who warned — correctly — that mass Third World Muslim immigration was ruining Britain. As a Catholic, hearing that brings back nauseating memories of bishops shuffling pedophile priests from parish to parish instead of calling in the police — supposedly to avoid the danger of “scandal” harming the Church and losing souls. Of course, these leftist politicians in Britain were serving their own religious cause: the post-Civil Rights movement cult of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. That infernal trinity, a three-headed golden calf, is now the idol worshiped by elites throughout the West. Those who refuse to prostrate themselves before this fetish face all the force of a secular inquisition. Britons are now sitting in prison cells for mildly complaining about immigration policy — cells which, not coincidentally, have been emptied of rapists and other assailants to make room for political dissidents. Should We Tell “Noble” Lies? This is happening right now in Britain — the nation that gave us the Magna Carta, parliaments, Common Law, and trial by jury. I was sickened even further when one of my favorite living writers, historian Tom Holland, doubled down on his comment from 10 years ago (before his conversion to Christianity): How noble is a goal that rests on secrecy and lies? Was it noble for Catholic bishops to protect the good name of the priesthood at the price of altar boys who were molested and damaged for life? Why is it any more noble than that to save the good name of deeply dysfunctional foreign communities that are infamous for child marriages and “honor killings”? If Pakistani culture really does accept such practices, it richly deserves contempt — and mass deportations to follow. The bishops who covered up for pedophile priests have been mostly disgraced for it now. They paid out some $3 billion in damages in the U.S. alone (though they made all that money back, dollar for dollar, trafficking immigrants via their taxpayer-funded nonprofits such as Catholic Charities). Will the vast, almost unthinkable scale of child rape in Britain discredit its authoritarian, censorship-happy Labour government and the mute, useless Tory party that only expanded immigration, as if to punish its voters? If We Don't Fight, the Pagans Will It's hard to say. You can't beat something with nothing, and antiracism remains the established church of most of the West. Maybe like the Aztec cult it can go on demanding human sacrifices for centuries because there is no live alternative. Christian churches that have dethroned Jesus Christ and replaced Him with canonized victims such as George Floyd won't fill the void. They're not even really Christian, except as cargo cults that use the borrowed imagery and symbols of a religion they've become at once too primitive and decadent to understand. If the Church won't provide an alternative to civilizational suicide, enraged neopagans will. Instead of shaping fetishes out of non-whites, they'll make whiteness an idol. The result will be ugly and violent, and the pasty-faced churchmen who willingly lived by lies will watch it all helplessly from their fainting couches, without even the decency to despise themselves for causing it. His brilliant book Dominion showed how Western notions of equality, fairness, and tolerance all emerged from the Gospel, not Greece or Rome. This appointment scheme delegitimizes Trump's cabinet picks, sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations, and is likely unconstitutional.
