Slam the Gavel welcomes back Riti Chikkerur to the podcast. Riti was last on Season 3, Episode 154. Today she is accompanied by Attorney Kelly March in Colorado. Today we discussed Our Children Matter Most, Inc. where Riti Chikkerur is Executive Director of the OCMM, a non-profit and in the process of restructuring as a Benefit Corporation and collaborates with NAACP. Why can't doing good be profitable? Because it is solution based. Riti is in the process of going to law school. TILA-LABS (Trauma Informed Legal Advocacy) was discussed which provides holistic approach and solutions to the parents and also to the legal community. This will include nutrition, legal, spiritual and mental health. They will soon be launching TILA-LABS, a one-stop holistic trauma informed view on a parent's situation, helping to resolve it. Attorney Kelly March, in Colorado since 2010, began to see how corrupt and backwards some situations can get in the family courts. Attorney March saw that certain families could benefit from TILA-LABS as they become overwhelmed by the system. A holistic approach would be so beneficial to families and shorten court cases which would in turn benefit the children. To Reach Riti Chikkerur and Attorney Kelly March: www.ourchildrenmattermost.org or dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com***** Supportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)Maryann Petri: dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.comhttps://www.tiktok.com/@maryannpetriFacebook: https://www.youtube.com/@slamthegavelpodcasthostmar5536Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/guitarpeace/Pinterest: Slam The Gavel Podcast/@guitarpeaceLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/maryann-petri-62a46b1ab/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@slamthegavelpodcasthostmar5536 Twitter https://x.com/PetriMaryannEzlegalsuit.comhttps://ko-fi.com/maryannpetri*DISCLAIMER* The use of this information is at the viewer/user's own risk. As a Senior Staff Attorney at the Barton Child Law and Policy Center, Emilie Cook shares her journey from traditional legal practice to becoming a champion for systemic change. This episode explores how neglect, often rooted in poverty, not abuse, constitutes a significant issue within the child welfare system. We unpack the racial disparities faced by marginalized communities and how preventive measures can address these injustices by offering legal support early on, tackling social determinants of health, and redefining systemic approaches for a more equitable future. We discuss the effectiveness of the current child welfare system, highlighting the unnecessary trauma caused by child-parent separations. How are victims of intimate partner violence meant to protect themselves—and, often, their children—without winding up dead, in hospital, or prison? It's a situation that many find themselves in. Approximately 15 percent of women in the United States are victims of intimate partner violence, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. But the legal system is not set up to help them. In this episode the executive director of the Stanford Criminal Justice Center, Debbie Mukamal, and Stanford Law student Jacqueline Lewittes join Pam and Rich to discuss the Center's new study “Fatal Peril: Unheard Stories from the IPV-to-Prison Pipeline and Other Stories Touched by Violence,” that offers groundbreaking data and personal stories from women currently in prison because of intimate partner violence. They also touch on the systemic failures in the justice system in handling these complex cases. We are joined by Colm O'Comartum, the co-founder of public affairs firm 50-State and the former head of the Democratic Governors Association to get his take on the new dynamics of the presidential election and what that means for the top of the ticket as well as Congress, Governors and state legislatures. Born from the empathy of a group of South Asian women in Silicon Valley, Maitri has evolved to have 18 staff members and around 50 committed volunteers, making it a significant source of support for the South Asian community. On this episode of Ruled by Reason, AAI President, Diana Moss, and AAI Vice President for Legal Advocacy, Kathleen Bradish talk with leadership at the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division about the newly released merger guidelines. Moss and Bradish are joined by Susan Athey, Chief Economist for the Antitrust Division and Michael Kades, Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division. This is the 7th revision of the merger guidelines since they were first released by the antitrust agencies in 1968. The revisions are notable for many reasons, not the least of which is their timing, which comes at an inflection point in antitrust enforcement and competition policy. The draft guidelines address a number of growing concerns around consolidation, including high and rising concentration, high barriers to entry, and the emergence of dominant firms and tight oligopolies in key markets. The revised guidelines also take on issues not addressed head on by previous agency guidance, such as the effect of mergers on the loss of worker bargaining power, firm growth through “serial acquisitions,” the complexities of partial ownership and control, elimination of potential entrants, and the emergence of business models, such as digital ecosystems with multisided platforms. Today's episode unpacks these and other key takeaways from the draft merger guidelines.
On this episode of Ruled by Reason, AAI President, Diana Moss, and AAI Vice President for Legal Advocacy, Kathleen Bradish talk about competition and cloud technology markets. AAI recently issued the report: The Cloud Technology Market: Storm of Innovation or Rainy Days for Competition? Moss and Bradish unpack AAI's analysis of a vitally important market in the digital economy, beginning with the explosive growth in cloud computing over the last two and a half decades. The report identifies the major cloud players and asks: What is the state of competition in the market? For example, is technological dynamism driving new entry? Are players jockeying for position by stealing share from each other? What does this all mean for how cloud providers compete with one another and are they any warning signs that competition may be flagging? Most important, how should antitrust enforcers and competition policymakers be thinking about promoting competition in cloud?

There's been a flurry of court action regarding abortion. What exactly is legal in Wisconsin is confusing — and up for debate. While Wisconsin's 1849 law banning abortions is in effect, some people are mail-ordering mifepristone and misoprostol through online pharmacies to end their pregnancies. But new dueling court decisions raise questions about access to medical abortion. Medical abortions involve taking a two-drug combination rather than surgery. It's the most common kind of abortion. Meanwhile, a lawsuit seeking to overturn Wisconsin's 1849 law is moving through the courts. Michelle Velasquez, Director of Legal Advocacy and Services for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, gives us an update on the court challenges. This week's episode features Raven Koontz, a legal assistant, currently living in Louisville, Kentucky. While Raven initially planned to become a doctor, life pushed her in the direction of the legal field where she has since developed a deep passion for law through working with Civil Rights Attorneys and advocating in the 'Free Britney' movement. Since joining her current team, Raven has helped grow a Twitter account dedicated to legal advocacy on behalf of the 'Free Britney' movement to over 60,000 followers and has been featured in both The New York Times and The Rolling Stones. On this episode, we talk all about what a typical day looks like for a legal assistant, how Gen Z currently approaches work, and what it's been like playing a major role in a legal battle that swept a nation.

James from Baystaters joins us on the podcast to share insights from the collective's successful legal crusade to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms in multiple Massachusetts counties - He brings his expertise as a professional in the political arena to challenge our nation's draconian drug policy head on, with tangible results drawn from an effectively organized grassroots response to war on drugs. We learn about the origin story of Baystaters, where they're headed as an organization, and why local political action still matters in a country that has largely lost faith in it's political system.
