In research on leadership, integrity is consistently rated as one of the most important character traits of a respected leader. Integrity can be defined as making values-based decisions, not decisions based on personal gain. When integrity is missing from our relationships, our leaders or ourselves, a break down in trust occurs, support disappears and as a result no one achieves their goals. Aligning our internal values with our external behaviors sounds easy, but putting it into practice can be a challenge. Take a look at Jack Canfield's The Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be You can also check out what The Rising Man Movement has to say about becoming a man of integrity. Todays guest is Jeddy Azuma the creator of the Rising Man Movement. Jeddy is a curator of culture, philosopher, and leader of men. In 2017, he created "The Rising Man Podcast" to investigate modern masculinity, promote men's well-being, and to explore what it means to be a "man". Over the past 5 years, The Rising Man has evolved into an international, multi-generational movement of men whose collective purpose is to initiate an entire generation into purposeful leadership and personal power. Jeddy started the Rising Man Podcast when there was only a dozen or so "Mens Work" Podcasts out there, 5 years later this movement is growing. Men are changing the paradigm of patriarchy one step at a time by connecting to their hearts and rising to their full expression of purpose. He is currently am responsible for creating and overseeing leadership development programs, wilderness Rites of Passage, and personal growth experiences for men. In this episode Jeddy shares some of his epic stories and life learnings about vulnerability, challenge and personal growth. Jeddy defines his purpose: to establish a lasting legacy and culture for men rooted in integrity, purposeful leadership, and social responsibility so that our children are equipped to handle the uncertainties of the future. Today's guest is Jeddy AzumaWe go deep talking about:Jeddy's distinction between a men's circle, team, and groupThe advantage of being around good men growing upHow to internalize trigger moments and reactions as a father in order to prevent further harm to our children and ourselvesHow important men's circles and communities are for fathersWhy it's critical to make time for and commit to your men's group/team meetings in order to get the best support possible.Developing a good relationship with your son that is based on his respect for you as his father rather than being his best friendWhat it means to be humble as a man and a father in real lifeBeing clear about your personal values/visions and demonstrating them through your actions and wordsAllowing our children to see us vulnerably so that they can recognize us as humans and feel safe being vulnerable with us.Host of “The Rising Man Podcast” and Creator of The Rising Man Movement, Jeddy has been in the field of Men's Leadership and Empowerment for the past 10 years. No matter how brilliant your vision is, perseverance and unshakable belief is necessary for success. Jeddy shares the story of The Rising Man Movement from its inception up to the present day, highlighting what values fueled its growth. In addition, he details the lessons learned from MISSING the first weekly publishing of an episode in the history of the podcast. Highlights: Why perseverance is especially vital in the beginning of any project What lessons came from missing the first episode in almost 3 years? Why it's helpful to define manhood and masculinity for ourselves. Why 300 dedicated men are stronger than a million casual followers. What's next for The Rising Man Movement? Turning Season: News & Conversations on Our Adventure Toward a Life-Sustaining Society
Matt Cochran joins me again, this time to share how dreamwork, especially in connection with men's work, is a part of his role in The Great Turning. Click Play to hear us talk about:how Matt relates to the "three stories of our time" (and how these compare to a rite of passage, or initiation)what dreams are for him and the people he works with (a navigational tool; a fierce, viable presence; a glimpse of the mythic level of our lives)men's work in Matt's life (including his shift from the loneliness of a lone wolf to non-competitive brotherhood with other men)how "the initiated masculine" is a part of The Great Turningmapping and protecting landscapes, from inside and outside of existing legal structureslooking to the Earth as a role model, not as a victimand one of Matt's own most significant dreamsAfter you listen, leave a comment at turningseason.com/episode3 and let me know what struck you. I'm curious what you think/feel/wonder about this conversation. And remember to share your book recommendations for Turning Season's bookshop!Matt Cochran is a dreamworker, wilderness guide, and modern homesteader. Raised in California, he's spent his adult life in the Innerwest. First as a wandering poet, then as an Exploration Geologist in Nevada, a Surveyor/Mapper in Colorado and Montana, and a wilderness guide in the Southwest, he's had a continued relationship with the wild landscapes of the Innerwest. With his partner, he's created a world-built-by-hand and they spend much of their time running their modern homestead. In midlife, Matt earned an MA at Pacifica Graduate School in Depth Psychology focusing on dreams and ecopsychology. In hindsight, he sees that he took his mapping skills to the inner territories, and recognizes that the language of wild nature corresponds to the language of dreams. He's trained in Rites of Passage with Animas Valley Institute and been involved in Men's Work through Michael Meade and the Rising Man Movement. Matt is now blending all these worlds into the offering of Raven Dream Tracking, where he focuses on dynamic dreamwork and works with men in what he calls Wolfpack Dreaming. As Matt says, “Dreams to me are an incredible navigation tool and a fierce, viable presence. They give us life from the hidden places within, and a generative, creative and visionary capacity in the world without.”Show notes: turningseason.com/episode3Music by East Forest

With nearly 15 years of experience in the men's work sphere, Sean Galla has witnessed the magic that happens when men gather and share from the heart. No matter his level of success, wealth, or popularity, every man faces the same fundamental challenges and needs support. This universality is why both Sean and The Rising Man Movement are so passionate about enrolling men into circles. Our conversation also explores how to build trust and what unique benefits come with being in a brotherhood. Highlights: How do team sports increase trust among men? Do successful men need men's work? Why do all men have the same fundamental issues? How can men's work leaders better connect with the LGBTQA community? What is somatic experiencing and how did it help Sean? How can we separate our egoic desires from leadership? The difference between making a deep impact and being popular. In today's episode, I sat down with someone who has been a big inspiration for me, Jeddy Azuma. Jeddy and I covered a LOT. He shared his story of how he came to connect with truth, ancient practices, and doing work that is aligned and meaningful, and how we all are working to leave a legacy. We talked about the difference between a boy and a man and the difference between the "initiations" we see in modern hazing and the traditional initiation ceremonies that have been practiced for thousands of years and that Jeddy works with today. We covered topics like asking for help and why it's so hard, being process vs. results oriented, what the point is of ceremony, and how we can practice and develop our relationship with challenge. This episode was dense, maybe one you want to go back and listen to again. Jeddy Azuma is the host of “The Rising Man Podcast” (Top #150 in Educational Podcasts) and Creator of The Rising Man Movement, Jeddy has been in the field of Men's Leadership and Empowerment for the past 10 years. He is a Founding Father of Conscious Man Brotherhood and a lead coach in Man Cave, Unleash the Beast, and King's Court. Despite his many roles and contributions to “Men's Work", Jeddy considers his most important jobs to be Father and Husband. “I always knew I wanted to make a major impact on the world, I just had NO idea how to do that in my 20's. After numbing myself with substances and fear-based behaviors for years, I finally found a path in men's work and rites of passage that fed my soul. And, I knew it was only a matter of time before I would give this medicine back to the men around me. Licensed therapist, wilderness guide, and men's work leader are just a few of the experiences that have given Michael Gay a profound perspective on life. He shares his soulful and realistic definition of shadow work, explores the relationship of safety and creativity, and reminds us to be more than we do. Michael's loving and forgiving approach to life is deeply moving, making this an exceptional contribution to the Rising Man Movement. Trust in others is vital for safety to thrive Safety increases our capacity for connection and intimacy “We are only as sick as our secrets” Forgiveness must be felt authentically, it cannot be forced Somewhere inside you there is a capacity for empathy and seeing yourself in their shoes How do we heal the perpetrators? There's a misconception that a mature man is beyond feeling fear. We ALL experience fear. The integrated man forges a sense of safety for HIMSELF, using positive & loving internal dialog. He does not dwell on the pain, nor crave its release. This journey of relating to fear and pain is critical work, and the Rising Man Movement is committed to providing men with the tools needed to achieve this level of self reliance. Show Notes: We all experience fear, though what we do with that feeling varies. Why fear often triggers inner child wounding What we learn to do with fear is more important than the initial wave of feeling Why substances and sex are some of the most commonly used strategies to combat fear. The inner boy only wants to feel safe Manhood is about creating a sense of safety for OURSELVES Being intentional about our internal dialog is extremely vital Rising Man Links: The Rising Man Fire Circles - our online platform where men come together and put into practice all the greatness talked about on the podcast. Julian Subick is a writer, adventurer, and team member of the podcast. He is on today to show us what happens when we embrace the principles of the Rising Man Movement. By diving into this work just two years ago, Julian has transformed from a depressed, addicted boy to a confident, expressive man. He proves that these evolutions are accessible and attainable for EVERY MAN. We cover the importance of transparent sharing, why we are always comparing ourselves to others, and his experience fasting on the mountain.
