Son dernier projet est d'un tout autre registre, c'est un film d'animation, un conte bouleversant sur la Shoah.L'acteur anglais Hugh Grant est de retour dans "Heretic" avec un rôle assez inattendu ! On le retrouve à l'affiche d'un film d'horreur qui s'intitule "Heretic". Nous suivons deux jeunes missionnaires mormones qui frappent à la porte de M. Reed, c'est Hugh Grant, un hôte aussi accueillant qu'inquiétant. When a Promise Meant Something: Sean Penn's The Pledge  November is the month of Rick Ramos and this week we continue - following Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon and Walter Hill's Hard Times - with a look at Sean Penn's 2001 The Pledge. Featuring an underrated (and I would argue tragically underseen) Jack Nicholson performance that sidesteps all of the Nicholson tropes that we have become used to, Nicholson portrays Jerry Black, a police detective on the eve of his retirement who leaves his retirement party to investigate a young girl's rape and murder. He is quickly sucked into the horror of the crime and finds himself obsessed with discovering the truth and bringing the killer to justice. Penn's film takes all of the labored and tired tropes that have become standard for the genre and manipulates them in ways that make for a fresh directorial take. Featuring an all-star cast (that never screams of stunt casting) including: Sam Shepard, Helen Mirren, Aaron Eckhart, Patricia Clarkson, Michael O'Keefe, Vanessa Redgrave, Robin Wright Penn, Harry Dean Stanton, Benicio del Toro, Tom Noonan, and (an incredible) Mickey Rourke, the 2001 film is one that truly speaks to Penn's power and gifts behind the camera. Unbreakable tells the story of David Dunn who is the sole survivor of a train crash and begins discovering things about himself with the help of the mysterious Mr. Glass. Featuring top-notch performances by Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Robin Wright Penn, Unbreakable made $248 million from a $75 million budget, received positive praise and carries a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. But, does it hold up? To help us usher in a decidedly bizarre yuletide this year, we’re celebrating a fascinating double feature: a bizarre, shambolic Cassavetes family affair and one of the great entries in the Dipshit Film Canon, respectively. What’s more, we’ve got a very special guest to guide us through: Actor and Blank Check podcaster extraordinaire Griffin Newman! First is She’s So Lovely, a lost John Cassavetes script turned into a schmaltzy, all-too-conventional romantic drama courtesy of son Nick “The Notebook” Cassavetes. Starring Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn as a self-destructive barfly couple torn apart by alcoholism, sexual assault, and madness, which throws in a ten-year time skip and a reformed, remarried Wright a mentally-recovering Penn has to get back. Sure, it’s got Daddy Cass’ knack for complicated characters and verbose dialogue, but not even Travolta as Wright’s post-cleanup husband in the film’s second half can clean up the mess. But to soothe the pain, we get to bask in the flowing locks and sweaty wife-beater of Army Ranger-turned-heroic-prisoner in Simon West’s incredibly mercenary Con Air. It’s the second entry in Cage’s ‘90s action movie trilogy (after The Rock last episode), and it’s as energizing as it is primal and retrograde. You don’t need us to tell you how good this movie is; just put the bunny back in the box and come listen to us gush over it for 45 minutes.
