Robert Wise's Odds Against Tomorrow & James Foley's After Dark My Sweet  This week Rick Ramos flies solo for a new episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos and the last new episode of 2025. After a heartfelt look at the past year, dreams, the job, and making sense of the art, we look at two Noirs that have been criminally overlooked: Robert Wise's 1959 Classic Odds Against Tomorrow and James Foley's After Dark My Sweet (1990). The episode is a deep dive into the power of Noir; how and why it continues to appeal to audiences and a continuing attempt to understand what "constitutes" Noir. One Man talking into the Darkness. When a Promise Meant Something: Sean Penn's The Pledge  November is the month of Rick Ramos and this week we continue - following Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon and Walter Hill's Hard Times - with a look at Sean Penn's 2001 The Pledge. Featuring an underrated (and I would argue tragically underseen) Jack Nicholson performance that sidesteps all of the Nicholson tropes that we have become used to, Nicholson portrays Jerry Black, a police detective on the eve of his retirement who leaves his retirement party to investigate a young girl's rape and murder. He is quickly sucked into the horror of the crime and finds himself obsessed with discovering the truth and bringing the killer to justice. Penn's film takes all of the labored and tired tropes that have become standard for the genre and manipulates them in ways that make for a fresh directorial take. Featuring an all-star cast (that never screams of stunt casting) including: Sam Shepard, Helen Mirren, Aaron Eckhart, Patricia Clarkson, Michael O'Keefe, Vanessa Redgrave, Robin Wright Penn, Harry Dean Stanton, Benicio del Toro, Tom Noonan, and (an incredible) Mickey Rourke, the 2001 film is one that truly speaks to Penn's power and gifts behind the camera. Oil & Blood: Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon Take a listen as Mr. Chavez & I kick off the month of November with a series of films curated by your host and producer, Rick Ramos. We begin with a discussion of Martin Scorsese's newest film - currently in theaters - Killers of the Flower Moon, a beautifully realized adaptation of David Grann's 2017 non-fiction best seller, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.  Featuring exceptional performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, new comer Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Tantoo Cardinal, Brendan Fraser, and a powerfully restrained Robert DeNiro, Killers of the Flower Moon is a beautifully told and powerfully moving dramatization of the Osage murders of the early 1920s. Scorsese has crafted a nuanced and gripping film that only time will allow the revelation of its complete impact. It was a pleasure to begin November with this film. Windows Never Lie: The Voyeuristic Eye of Alfred Hitchcock On this week's episode, Ibrahim & I sit down to discuss an Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece, Rear Window (1954). Surprisingly, this is a film that your learned host has somehow missed. After a rocky start, The Master of Suspense pulls Rick Ramos in once again. This is a masterpiece of suspense working within limited parameters. Far more than a simple "gimmick" the great director's look at a man laid up with a broken leg who finds himself consumed and infatuated with the goings-on of his apartment courtyard and the surrounding apartment windows, is an early examination of voyeurism and social media (Yes! Listen to the episode to understand.). Long in the shadows of Psycho and Vertigo this is a truly underrated Hitchcock Classic. We're thrilled to be sitting down to discuss it. You Must Remember This . . . The Continuing Power of Casablanca  On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Ibrahim & I sit down to discuss a film, widely considered on of the greatest ever made, Michael Curtiz's 1942 classic of Love, Espionage, & Resistance in a troubled and dangerous world, Casablanca. Focusing on the heartbroken and cynical American ex-patriate, Rick Blaine, Casablanca has remained an American classic for nearly eight decades. A very basic story of love and cynicism set in a Nazi-occupied foreign land, Casablanca has remained the template of Classical Romanticism. Nothing can be written in this blurb that would convey the power of Humphrey Bogart, the beauty and tenderness of Ingrid Bergman, and the wealth of varied and colorful supporting cast (perhaps the best assembled up to that point) including: Claude Rains, Paul Henried, Sydney Greenstreet, Dooley Wilson, Conrad Veidt, and Peter Lorre.  It's an incredible film that we both consider a pleasure to return to. Nothing better than two chubbies sitting down to do what chubbies do best . . . No, not eat, Assholes. Talk Movies. This week My Good Buddy Mike Black stops by The Fortress of Ultimate Darkness to discuss Today's Greatest Action Star, Dwayne "TheRock" Johnson. We go over a career that includes one of our favorite films 2003's THE RUNDOWN as well as 2010's FASTER, 2013's SNITCH, and his role in THE FAST & THE FURIOUS Action Series (specifically, the ridiculousness of Vin Diesel being able to kick his ass - Sorry Vin). We also talk his new film SAN ANDREAS as well as the horrible plans to revamp John Carpenter's 80's Classic BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. With Mike Black there's no end to topics as we also discuss MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, video games, and what we have to look foward to over the rest of the summer. This was a hell of a good time. Hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it. Many Thanks for the Continued Support.

Hello Folks, Rick Ramos here. I wanted to get one last episode in before the end of the month. A few months back I got hit up by a WatchThis listener - Mr. Alan Lamberg. We started talking over email and I found a kindred spirit. He suggested we do one anothers' podcasts. So here goes . . . the first (of hopefully many) crossover episodes. So he set this up through Skype and the miracles of modern technology, I was able to sit down with a man I find myself respecting more and more. The entire Pacific Ocean couldn't stop this podcast from happening. So please enjoy my conversation (in Los Angeles) with Alan Lamberg (in Nagano, Japan) - Co-Founder of Corner Film Productions & Writer and Co-Producer of 2012's Casualties of the State, an exceptional Film Fan's Film.
