Six hundred consecutive weeks is a long time and we had every intention of celebrating this milestone with dignity and class unlike the previous 599 episodes, but then we invited a washed up game show host to hang out with us and somewhere along the way, it all went horribly wrong. When a Promise Meant Something: Sean Penn's The Pledge November is the month of Rick Ramos and this week we continue - following Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon and Walter Hill's Hard Times - with a look at Sean Penn's 2001 The Pledge. Featuring an underrated (and I would argue tragically underseen) Jack Nicholson performance that sidesteps all of the Nicholson tropes that we have become used to, Nicholson portrays Jerry Black, a police detective on the eve of his retirement who leaves his retirement party to investigate a young girl's rape and murder. He is quickly sucked into the horror of the crime and finds himself obsessed with discovering the truth and bringing the killer to justice. Penn's film takes all of the labored and tired tropes that have become standard for the genre and manipulates them in ways that make for a fresh directorial take. Featuring an all-star cast (that never screams of stunt casting) including: Sam Shepard, Helen Mirren, Aaron Eckhart, Patricia Clarkson, Michael O'Keefe, Vanessa Redgrave, Robin Wright Penn, Harry Dean Stanton, Benicio del Toro, Tom Noonan, and (an incredible) Mickey Rourke, the 2001 film is one that truly speaks to Penn's power and gifts behind the camera. Oil & Blood: Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon Take a listen as Mr. Chavez & I kick off the month of November with a series of films curated by your host and producer, Rick Ramos. We begin with a discussion of Martin Scorsese's newest film - currently in theaters - Killers of the Flower Moon, a beautifully realized adaptation of David Grann's 2017 non-fiction best seller, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. Featuring exceptional performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, new comer Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Tantoo Cardinal, Brendan Fraser, and a powerfully restrained Robert DeNiro, Killers of the Flower Moon is a beautifully told and powerfully moving dramatization of the Osage murders of the early 1920s. Scorsese has crafted a nuanced and gripping film that only time will allow the revelation of its complete impact. It was a pleasure to begin November with this film. 1933 . . . Words Didn't Buy Much - Walter Hill's Hard Times On this week's episode, Mr. Ramos celebrates his 49th birthday looking at the purpose and drive of WatchThis W/RickRamos, some of his favorite films, why he loves them as he does, and culminating with a look at one of his favorite films, Walter Hill's directorial debut, Hard Times (1975). Why this films is a longstanding favorite is a mystery, however it is one that our illustrious host works to understand. Featuring wonderful performances from Charles Bronson as Chaney, James Coburn as Speed, Strother Martin as Poe, and exceptional supporting performances from Jill Ireland, Nick Dimitri, Robert Tessier, and Michael McGuire Hard Times continues to hold onto Ramos's imagination and soul. This was a fun episode. Hopefully you'll enjoy the reminiscing. If you have something to contribute you can correspond with Rick Ramos at gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks. Windows Never Lie: The Voyeuristic Eye of Alfred Hitchcock On this week's episode, Ibrahim & I sit down to discuss an Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece, Rear Window (1954). Surprisingly, this is a film that your learned host has somehow missed. After a rocky start, The Master of Suspense pulls Rick Ramos in once again. This is a masterpiece of suspense working within limited parameters. Far more than a simple "gimmick" the great director's look at a man laid up with a broken leg who finds himself consumed and infatuated with the goings-on of his apartment courtyard and the surrounding apartment windows, is an early examination of voyeurism and social media (Yes! Listen to the episode to understand.). Long in the shadows of Psycho and Vertigo this is a truly underrated Hitchcock Classic. We're thrilled to be sitting down to discuss it. Hopefully, you'll enjoy the talk. Thanks for your continued support. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com.

"A Patriot Must Always Be Ready To Defend His Country Against His Government" - Jim Garrison Oliver Stone's JFK (1991) On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Mr. Chavez & I sit down to discuss a masterpiece of cinema, and Oliver Stone's greatest achievement, JFK (1991). Fifty-Seven years later, the controversy surrounding that fateful day in November continues to haunt our country. Oliver Stone's dramatization and exploration of the Kennedy Assination, the controversy surrounding the Warren Report, Louisiana District Attorney, Jim Garrison's prosecution of Louisiana Businessman, Clay Shaw (the only case ever brought to court regarding the Kennedy Assasination) and our nation's continued fascination with the paranoia and perceived conspiracy of the assassination shaped and drove one of the greatest films ever made. With an all-star cast including Kevin Costner as Garrison, Ed Asner, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, John Candy, Michael Rooker, Jay Sanders, Laurie Metcalf, Sissy Spacek, Joe Pesci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Gary Oldman. A truly great film that we are thrilled to discuss. Take a listen and let us know what you think. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Always The Last to Know: Gene Hackman as Harry Moseby in Arthur Penn's Night Moves (1975) Take a listen as Rick Ramos flies solo to talk Gene Hackman in Arthur Penn's classic Neo-Noir Thriller Night Moves (1975). A bravado showcase for Gene Hackman's subtlety. It is exactly this type of performance that has flown Hackman under the radar of great actors for so many decades. Never given the recognition of his 70's era colleagues such as DeNiro, Pacino, and Hoffman, Hackman gives a nuanced and subtle performance that lets audiences and film lovers know why he was one of the best actors in the latter half of cinema's history. It's a good thing that I always like the podcasters that I interview. Somehow, I wouldn't want to envision slamming "The Heavyweight Chumps" and getting body-slammed by either Mattox or Thundercookies. (Besides, how do you explain that a guy named Thundercookies body-slammed me? ) Although they've put their ring action behind them, the guys don't mind discussing wrestling, movies, tv, music, etc. They're not only available on your favorite podcast apps, you can also catch them on the radio, too. The guys were lots of fun to talk to, also, and they really enjoy their fans, too. (Maybe, just don't ask Thundercookies where he got his name from in front of the kids,)And you can tell that Mattox has a wealth of info, too. You Must Remember This . . . The Continuing Power of Casablanca On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Ibrahim & I sit down to discuss a film, widely considered on of the greatest ever made, Michael Curtiz's 1942 classic of Love, Espionage, & Resistance in a troubled and dangerous world, Casablanca. Focusing on the heartbroken and cynical American ex-patriate, Rick Blaine, Casablanca has remained an American classic for nearly eight decades. A very basic story of love and cynicism set in a Nazi-occupied foreign land, Casablanca has remained the template of Classical Romanticism. Nothing can be written in this blurb that would convey the power of Humphrey Bogart, the beauty and tenderness of Ingrid Bergman, and the wealth of varied and colorful supporting cast (perhaps the best assembled up to that point) including: Claude Rains, Paul Henried, Sydney Greenstreet, Dooley Wilson, Conrad Veidt, and Peter Lorre. It's an incredible film that we both consider a pleasure to return to. Take a listen and let us know what you think. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Continued Thanks.

Host Steve Mazan and Rick discuss it all. Should we start getting used to people on their phones in theaters? As a movie lover do we owe it to the younger generation to introduce them to the classics? How in the hell did Buster Keaton make this movie 90 years ago? What's it got to do with Jackie Chan? It's about time The Home Schooled podcast had a movie discussion, and who better to have on than Rick Ramos from "Watch This" w/ Rick Ramos. Rick is a comedian that I have known for years, a dear friend and it is always great to discuss any genre of movie with him. I have been wanting to get Rick together with my Co-Host Kevin Lyons for quite sometime as they both are movie fanatics. I hope you enjoy this movie discussion episode. @agostinozoida @therealkevlyons @rickramoscomedy
