Ray Billings, Digital Content Specialist for The Op, joins the show to share her expertise in all things related to marketing and creating media for board games. Don't let my lack of knowledge on the subject make you Tapple out of this conversation, as Ray's wit and wisdom will provide many Hues and Cues as to how you too can authentically create for the things you are passionate about.Cheesiness aside, this episode is amazing. Being able to look at board games through this lens provides a ton of insight not just for the sake of how we might pitch games as products, but also as to how we can create and talk in ways that make games a more welcoming space. Additionally, there's talk about Katamari, email factories, live streaming, lingo, and so much more.Check out Ray's work on The Op's TikTok page, her own Bluesky account, the R&R Show, and the BoardGameWire feature discussed in the episode!Games Mentioned in this Episode⚀ Intro (0:00) The moment where Ray's skills and interests intersected. Also, job titles.⚁ Hats (10:23) The aforementioned “Email Factory” is just a part of Ray's day to day. Furthermore, the day to day will vary with all sorts of different days at the office, conventions, and everything else that can pop up. Ray also talks about being on the R&R Show, live streaming, and other fun work stories.⚂ “How board game maker The Op got 8 million TikTok views last month” (31:19)Early in her position at The Op, Ray wrote a feature for BoardGameWire based on some wild success she achieved. This section discusses the article, both from how that core vision holds and how things have changed with time/changes in media/experience.⚃ Hypotheticals (40:26) “How would you approach digital media and marketing if you were the Digital Content Specialist of …?” That's this section.⚄ Wrap-up Questions (59:12) A big shout out for the fact that Ray was recently recognized as a finalist for the Wonder Woman Award for Women in Toys nonprofit organization! Per usual, we're talking about some texts on her mind and looking forward to some things in Ray's future.-----------------------------------------------------------------If you like this show, liking it on whatever platform you listen to and writing a review would mean so much! Furthermore, it's as independent as it gets, so any financial support would help with the subscriptions that make this project go smoothly. That can be done by "buying me a coffee" and/or buying a copy of my board game (I like it).All of my socials and support information can be found here: Intertextual Experience Linktree
This week on Mega Dads Live we're rolling around with Once Upon a Katamari!
PlayStation has had an interesting year, where its smaller output in terms of first-party releases has not hurt it at all in terms of console sales. The gaming giant has made several future-facing announcements, one of which includes the existence of PlayStation 6 not that far down the line. Sean and Marc look into PlayStation's year from its games to its other media endeavors and what things look like heading into the looming 2026. An interesting take from Strauss Zelnick that we are headed to a PC future may mean that Xbox is right? But will it be the leader on that end? As two different anecdotal reports state that the recently announced Steam Machine may not be as price-friendly as many were hoping it would be. Could it be compounded by this ongoing memory shortage? Also, Xbox had its Partner Preview event, which included an interesting list of games. Not to mention, its weird announcement of Xbox Crocs that came out today as well. Marc has spent some time with Once Upon a Katamari, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is down sales-wise, while Battlefield 6 and Arc Raiders are booming in its stead. All of this and more on this edition of Video Games 2 the MAX! We're still concerned with the Delta Quadrant as this episode of Casual Trek covers episodes from Modern Trek's animated series concerning the Voyager, the Delta Quadrant and all those assorted antics. First up is the Prodigy Season One mid-season two-parter ‘A Moral Star' where Dal and the Protostar gang plan to actually do a Starfleet with a little bit of heist antics as they try to break out the prisoners of their old home and then in Lower Decks' ‘Twovix' as Boimler grapples with the possibility of promotion, the crew of the Cerritos discover that when there's an outbreak of Tuvixes, Janeway was 100% right!Episodes Discussed: A Moral Star (06:36) and Twovix (35:35)Talking points: Dan Dare (SPACE HYPER HERO), Hades II, the dark history of the Mushroom Kingdom, more of the Dark History of Charlie's time with Dave's, the one time the Holodeck safeties breaking was a good thing, Janeway is definitely cottagecore, 80s cartoons were great nostalgia, but modern cartoons do have some superior moments, Mantzoukis in Taskmaster has coloured our heroes opinion of Jakim Pog, many many references to Katamari Damacy, Janeway was right killing Tuvix, does Riker regret not having sex with his transporter clone? we make Tuvix a verb, an Americano is a Tuvix of Espresso and Water, what happens when coffee reaches Warp 10? Miles sings two seperate theme tunes.PEDANTS CORNER: The TOS episode Miles refers to is ‘Is There In Truth No Beauty.' Miles and his wife DO have the Katamari Damacy soundtrack on vinyl, important to know.

Apologies for the delay with this episode, but it was a rough work week. Well while we're on the subject, let's go ahead and talk about some games featuring the Beats Crew's favorite past time - work! We talk about Yakuza Infinite Wealth where you get occupation based job classes, Once Upon a Katamari where your dad gives you work all day long, and more! But it's not all just about fun and games - we talk about our real life work experiences at Walmart, Gamestop, and other places that kept us gainfully (painfully?) employed in our youth. And to wrap things up have a double dose of work based trivia at the end to put your brain to work as well. So get ready to punch in, zone out until break time, and join us for this look at working games!
In this not-episode, Madelyn and Emma talk about their last six weeks in gaming and there's a second Katamari fix of the year so Madelyn's getting greedy. Also featuring slightly too late updates, games that grab your brain lobe, and control scheme hot takes.
Claire returns to talk Hal-Con. She's been playing Ball x Pit, Pac-Man World 2: Re-Pac, and Once Upon a Katamari. Sean plays through ElecHead and Before Your Eyes. Paul is enjoying Dispatch. We start news off with discussing Valve's 3 hardware announcements. We also talk about Sony's State of Play Japan and the Horizon MMO. TDP is listener funded. Like what you hear? 25 years ago today, the PlayStation 2 launched in the US. I recount my lonely camping out at a local store that nobody knew had PS2's, only to get a PS2 that didn't work. Once Upon A Katamari is a new entry in my favorite game series, and reviewers love it but there's an aspect of it I'm not as much a fan of. Microsoft has told the Xbox division that they must make 30% profit margins, something that no game company has been able to do. This explains why Xbox has made the decisions they have made for the past year. Then we talk about how Microsoft has opted all users of the Xbox Game Bar on PC into a Microsoft Copilot feature that periodically takes screenshots of your gameplay and sends it to their AI for learning - even if it's a game you're developing and under NDA.
The Katamari series is back! Once Upon A KATAMARI echoes back to the classic PS2 Katamari games and Doug tries to decide if it should hold a spot as one of the best in the franchise.

The world went topsy turvy this week as Halo was announced for the Playstation 5 and Ben was in Adelaide. Thankfully, one of those things has been rectified and so we're back together chatting about recent games news and reviewing our new obsession Ball X Pit, as well as Once Upon A Katamari, Keeper, Cloverpit, and the demo for Dogpile. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The holiday release blitz continues, and we are having a ball – literally! With games like Ball X Pit, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Once Upon a Katamari all placing spherical shapes in prominent roles (or rolls, to be theme-appropriate), we wanted to take a look at the top games where you play as a ball. After that, we give Ball X Pit some much-deserved praise, see what Double Fine has been up to with Keeper, and tell you about our time so far in Lumiose City with our initial takes on Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Question of the Week: What is a gaming hardware brand, trend, or product that needs to be revived? Break Song is "I'm Having a Ball" by Steve Lang Vidjagame Apocalypse theme by Matthew Joseph Payne.
