Knowing Jesus changes the way we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. This perspective shift is necessary for living as Kingdom Citizens with Kingdom attitudes towards our self and others. God gives us wisdom whenever we ask Him and helps us to see our own sins and to know how to walk in wisdom towards outsiders. (See Colossians 4:5-6 with Hebrews 4:14-16)Prepare for this week's teaching by reading Matthew 7:1-6 with 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
Diligent people are dedicated and thorough, seeing tasks through to completion—they don't give up and are known for their trustworthiness and strong work ethic. Following Christ requires this same diligence. Join us for Session Three as we follow Joseph's example and explore how to make diligence a foundational element in everything we do. By setting this standard for ourselves, we can pursue a life of godliness that draws others to the Lord.Verses: Genesis 39:1-6aColossians 3:23-24Proverbs 4:232 Timothy 2:15Matthew 24:44-47Discussion Questions:What would you struggle with if you went from being your parents' favorite child to a slave in another land? What is Joseph's motivation to continue to be diligent? (See Colossians 3:22-24)Why should we care to be diligent in things we are entrusted with?Aside from physical labor or spheres of influence, what spiritual things are we called to be diligent in? (Deuteronomy 6:17 and Psalm 119:4, and 2 Timothy 2:15)Joseph is granted favor from the Lord. What things does the Bible say help us obtain favor? (See Psalm 5:12, Psalm 147:11, and Proverbs 3:3-4)
This week we continue to follow Paul through his second missionary journey. Paul was a man with a clear mission, who was Not AshamedI of the gospel. What drove him to remain committed even when facing opposition and persecution? Join us for session six as we draw inspiration from Paul's example to be devoted to the gospel in the sometimes hostile culture in which we live.Verses Used:Acts 17:16Romans 1:162 Timothy 4:1-2Acts 9:172 Timothy 1:14Ephesians 4:22-24Galatians 5:22-23Discussion Questions:As believers our primary mission is to preach the gospel, baptize those who believe, and disciple others in their faith. How much of your life is dedicated to this mission? What distracts you from the mission of the gospel? Why should this be something we focus on? (See 1 Corinthians 9:16 & 2 Corinthians 5:14-15)How prepared do you feel to reason through the Scriptures and explain Christ to someone? What can you do to be better prepared? How can the truth found in Ephesians 4:22-24 and Galatians 5:22-23 affect the way you live? And how do these verses challenge you to be bold for the gospel? When people are confronted with the gospel, their sin, and their need for repentance, what reactions do you see people have? If people become angry or mock the message/messenger, what should be our response? How should we handle that? (See Colossians 4:5-6- what makes it difficult to obey this verse?)What can we learn from Paul about the manner in which he presents the gospel? (See Acts 17:1-3 & 22-34)

Romans 8 is one of the most encouraging and powerful chapters in all of the Bible for believers. It begins with "no condemnation", it ends with "no separation", and is filled with our "adoption as God's children". In this third sermon, we talk about waiting for better, waiting in pain, waiting patiently, and waiting with help from the Spirit. The Preferred Temperature of the Redeemed What sins are the most repugnant in God's eyes? Read Rev. 3:14-22 The Preferred Temperature of the Redeemed Let's Pray! Things we know about Laodicea: In his letter to the Colossians Paul described himself as struggling so that the Christians in those places would understand the treasure they had in Christ, never taking Him for granted! See Colossians 2:1-3 Jesus appears throughout the Bible, but when we get to Revelation, we have an amazing portrait painted of our Lord Jesus Christ! Here in the first three chapters of Revelation, a name for Jesus occurs an average of one out of every 3 verses, with over 25 names of Jesus given! Jesus is our Faithful and True Creator! V. 14 “By Him everything was created, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also the Head of the body, the church.” Col. 1:16-18a Do you take time each week to thank Jesus for creating this world, and creating you? He is the source of everything that really matters in your life, and should be thanked often for creating and sustaining you and the world. The sin that make Jesus want to throw up: Lukewarmness V. 15-17 “Lukewarmness is not weakness, it is wickedness. It is not a small sin; it is a great sin. If the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, then the greatest sin is not to do so.” -Adrian Rogers “Lukewarmness is the greatest form of blasphemy.” -G. Campbell Morgan A believer who is “hot” is on fire for Jesus! “Take away everything I have, but do not take away the sweetness of walking and talking with the King of glory.” -John Stam A person who is cold is dead spiritually. So who are the lukewarm? The lukewarm are church goers but not Christ lovers. Verse 17 shows us the big problem with the lukewarm: self-deception. The antidote for Lukewarmness V. 18-19 What's the antidote for being lukewarm? Acknowledge your sinfulness and utter lack of righteousness before God. Repent of having a faith that makes true dependence on Christ optional. Seek God as a deer pants for water (See Psalm 42:1). “My hope as a desperate sinner who lives in a desert of unrighteousness hangs on this biblical truth: that God is the kind of God who will be pleased with the one thing I have to offer- my thirst…God is delighted not by the resourcefulness of bucket brigades, but by the bending down of broken sinners to drink at the fountain of grace.” -John Piper V. 20 Jesus Christ's Great invitation! Here are the two enduring images I want to leave with you from chapters 1-3: 1. The strong Christ of chapter 1, Almighty God in all His splendor! 2. That same awesome God coming to your “door” to meet you! “As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God. I thirst for God, the Living God!” -Ps. 42:1-2 As you seek Christ, don't forget the 3 main commands given to the churches: Remember… The good news of grace you received and heard! Repent… Do the things you did when your faith was new! Listen… To what the Spirit is saying to you now, and act on it!
Key Points: We Catholics believe in the Redemptive Value of Suffering. (See John Paul II's encyclical “Salvifici Dolores” “Offer it up” for the benefit of others. It has been said that suffering offered up is the 2nd highest form of prayer, behind the Mass. Don't waste your suffering! See Colossians 1:24. What could be lacking in Jesus' suffering? Your participation in it! The man used his suffering to witness about Jesus. Doing the same could be the greatest, most impactful act you ever do! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/catholicbiblestudy/support

How can we know this?A: See Colossians 1:16 - For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.John 1:3 - All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.REVELATION / ESCHATOLOGY / END-TIMES[10:13] - Q: Do you personally see and feel the rise of the spirit of the antichrist throughout the world? All Romans 1 items checked within just a years time:Pastors thrown in prison, churches fenced off, their homes burned with their children in them, US churches gladly shuttered in the name of "saving just one is worth it" while bowing to the alter of health, wealth, and science (the new religion)Atrocities by world governments such as human trials of genetic modification supported by corporate coercion, suicide inducing lockdowns, planned starvation, destruction of small business, purposeful separating of sheep and goats due to testing and vaccination requirements, technological explosion ripe for the markFree speech removal, big tech takeover, cancel culture, woke culture, UFO/UAF disclosures, twisting of language and logic in that we have birthing persons because biological men can have babies, menstruate, and compete with girls in sports, amen must include “awomen”Big tech takeover of everyone's lives: biometric data prepared for payment, cashless society by a false coin shortage, the US dollar move towards the digital dollar, shadow-banned to free speech isn't allowed on this platform to digital jail to digital exileIsrael: a new wars with many around them, a new government mixed with Jew and Muslim power, global antisemitism, US funded enemies, and the continued push for a 2 state solutionNation fighting against nation with BLM peaceful protests, white guilt turned in to all whites are racist, Christians are racist, stolen elections, NWO schemes, and Israel is the oppressor of the world...to name just a fewThat wedding feast seems to be getting really close now. So, personally how close are you feeling that the removal of His bride church is now?[17:16] - Q: It seems like Christ's return is imminent, I believe that he's coming back soon. I can't wait to be taken up to heaven. I just don't know how to live day to day with that type of mindset, knowing that I'm going to be taken away. How do I live "normally" worrying about work/job, finances, buying cars/stuff, upkeep for my house, etc. In first 1 Thes Paul tells the believers there that they haven't missed it and they need to keep on working. So I know I need to continue on, I'm just challenged by how to do that. Christ's love is in me and yes I can share that with others and try to get as many to heaven as possible, but really preacher, I'm exhausted from what God has given me. I'm ready to go. Can you give a few pieces of advice for how to persevere? How should I be praying? ThanksA: See Matthew 24:45-51, 1 Thes 5:6-11[24:16] - Q: In Revelation John sees the events of the end times and since John is a saved man, would he also be seeing himself in the future? Meaning that there would be a past John and a future John. Also, if John is there for the end times, that he had already seen, wouldn't he have known that the Lamb was worthy to open the scroll and break the seals?A: 1 Corinthians 4:6 - I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written...OLD TESTIMENT LAW / DOCTRINAL ISSUES[30:22] - Q: Were multiple marriages in the Old Testament considered a sin? For example, David had multiple wives, if that was considered a sin and he continued to live in that sin seemingly unrepentant why did God still use him?Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines and God still used him... what? Was Solomon saved?[35:16] - Q: Why are there so many different versions of the Bible? Specifically the message, I know it gets the same point across but it says it completely differently than my NIV or ESV.[39:15] - Q: How do we know the Bible we have today is God's complete word? How does the apocrypha and other extra-biblical literature factor in? How can we be confident in it when it was seemingly assembled and decided by humans during various meetings/councils?A: Luke 24:27Any question that was missed due to time constraints during the service Pastor Jeff will address the answer on the blog.Sermon Notes (PDF): BLANKHint: Highlight blanks above for answers! This is the 1st of the 3 podcasts where Pastor Jim and AJ will talk through some key things about Christ Community Church. This will be especially beneficial for anyone who is new, visiting, and/or considering membership with us. But it will also be beneficial to those who have been members with us for a short or long time! In this 1st episode, we cover: History of CCC (planted in 2006) Mission of CCC ("to proclaim Christ to all and present everyone mature in Him, seeking the reformation and restoration of the Church, Community, and World for God's glory." See Colossians 1:28) Ministry at CCC In the upcoming episodes we will cover: doctrine & beliefs, polity & leadership, our pathway to membership, and what membership looks like as it is lived out.
Sermon Discussion Questions 1. John lists three things in 2:15-17 that constitute "the world" (desires of flesh, desires of eyes and pride of life). How are you currently wrestling with these tendencies of the sinful flesh? 2. The Riverside elders are calling the church to a fast during Lent (see link). How do you feel about this? How is God calling you to "put off the flesh" and "put on Christ?" How can we help each other practically do that? See Colossians 3:1-17 as a helpful launching point for this concept. 3. Part of the world system includes the Satan, "the ruler of this world" (John 12:31), which the modern church does not teach much about. How has that impacted your view of sin, your flesh and the world? What lies and half-truths has he tempted you to believe about yourself and God? (Help others consider truth from the Word to combat these lies and half-truths). 4. Loving the world is bad investment strategy, because it is passing away. Loving God is worth it because he will fulfill his promise to bring his kingdom in full (Rev. 21). What lesser kingdoms are you tempted to put your hope in? How does the hope of Jesus' kingdom (Rev. 21) help you endure today?
We all need strong walls around our lives, our families, our church, and our country. In the ancient days, a city without walls was weak and easily defeated. A city needed a strong foundation and walls of fortification.Wherever God is building, Satan is battling. Nehemiah had a vision for rebuilding the walls around Jerusalem which is why he met with intense opposition. Understand the tactics of the opposition…1) Division. (Chapter 5:1-9) Nehemiah encountered opposition from within. Sin and oppression had created division and an unjust system that could have destroyed the rebuilding vision.“Divide and conquer” is the age-old military strategy most employed by the enemy. Jesus said, “If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”2) Deception. (Chapter 6:1-4) Nehemiah’s enemies attempted to lure him out from behind the city walls under the banner of “peace” to the plains of Ono about twenty miles north of Jerusalem. In reality, it was a trick designed to assassinate him, and Nehemiah saw through the deception.Nehemiah 6:1-4, Now it happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall, and that there were no breaks left in it (though at that time I had not hung the doors in the gates), that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together among the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they thought to do me harm. So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?” But they sent me this message four times, and I answered them in the same manner.Satan’s methodology is always to distortreality. The key to our victory is to always walk in truth and not by lies.3) Distraction. (Chapter 6:5-7) Nehemiah’s enemies threatened him with a vicious and deadly rumor campaign. They threatened to frame Nehemiah as leading an insurrection against the Persian King who had sent him.Nehemiah 6:5-7, Then Sanballat sent his servant to me as before, the fifth time, with an open letter in his hand. In it was written: It is reported among the nations, and Geshem says, that you and the Jews plan to rebel; therefore, according to these rumors, you are rebuilding the wall, that you may be their king. And you have also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning you at Jerusalem, saying, “There is a king in Judah!” Now these matters will be reported to the king. So come, therefore, and let us consult together.Distraction can become destruction to a godly vision. When the enemy cannot stop you, he will seek to simply distract you. But Nehemiah would not be distracted from the vision! (See 6:8)4) Intimidation. (Chapter 6:8-11) When the enemy could not stop the vision through division, deception, or distraction, they resorted to intimidation. The enemy paid someone to go and tell Nehemiah they were going to kill him!Nehemiah 6:8-11, Then I sent to him, saying, “No such things as you say are being done, but you invent them in your own heart.” For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, “Their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done.” Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was a secret informer; and he said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you; indeed, at night they will come to kill you.” And I said, “Should such a man as I flee? And who is there such as I who would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in!” Colossians 3:1-4, If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. You will live a fearless life when you lay down your life, and you know your life is hidden in Christ. (See Colossians 3:1-4)
Often, we think our ministry as a call to reach people who don't follow Jesus. Sometimes we think, if everyone we work with is already a Christian, there's nothing for us to do. Yet in many places in scripture we find examples of how we can minister to brothers and sisters in Jesus. By "minister" we mean helping the people we're with move one notch closer to Jesus. We all have a hole in our being that only God can fill. A minister serves others so they might move one notch closer to Jesus. Notice how Paul prays for this group of Christians that he has apparently never met. (See Colossians 1:4, 7, 9 and 2:1.) First, he prays that they may be filled with the knowledge of God's will with Godly wisdom and understanding. The purpose of the knowledge is that they would walk in a manner worthy of the calling (vs 10). How often do you pray about circumstances? Do you pray that someone gets improved circumstances, financial, medical, or physical? Notice that Paul doesn't pray for any of those things for these people. And most Americans today have way more money, better health and comfort than most of the people Paul was writing to. Sure, they didn't have COVID, but look at what we have. Paul prayed that they would be filled with the knowledge of God. Mike pointed out that his joy was greatest when he was closest to God. Live and walk in such a way that God makes your joy visible. God will use you in any circumstances if you are filled with the knowledge of God's will with the Holy Spirit's wisdom and understanding. Why not make some plans for the new year now. Today we dive into this letter Paul wrote to church in Colossae. We ask this question what do we see as we observe Paul's own perspective on himself, his friends and the church in Colossae. Colossians 1:1-2- English Standard Version is what we are reading from. Thank you for listening.

Matthew 6:13 (NLT) • Temptation strikes me at my WEAKEST point. • The commandments and law wake up DESIRES in me. When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death. Romans 7:5 (NLT) • Willpower doesn't have much POWER. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” Luke 19:10 (NLT) You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the evil powers of this world. So why do you keep on following rules of the world, such as, “Don't handle, don't eat, don't touch.” Such rules are mere human teaching about things that are gone as soon as we use them. These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, humility, and severe bodily discipline. But they have no effect when it comes to conquering a person's evil thoughts and desires. See Colossians 2:20-23 And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13 (NLT) 1. Prayer connects me to God as my ULTIMATE SOURCE. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary. Hebrews 6:18b-19 (NLT) Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” Matthew 26:41 (NLT) 2. Prayer allows God's WAY and WISDOM to guide me. Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. 2 Timothy 2:22 (NLT) Don't be so naive and self-confident. You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. Cultivate God-confidence. No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 (MSG) 3. Prayer brings FREEDOM and restores my SOUL. Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalms 62:1-2 (NIV) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results. James 5:16 Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. “Winning In Warfare” October 11, 2020 Session 4 2 Timothy 2:3, 4; Ephesians 6:10-18 Review The Shoes of Peace [internal order; state of inner rest] (Ephesians 6:15) Peace is the inner assurance, confirmation of being in line with the Spirit’s voice and direction. (See Colossians 3:15-17) What does “the disturbing of the peace” in our spirit mean? The flesh and the enemy are “peace disturbers”. Ask the Spirit of peace for discernment! Agree with Him and respond. Our spirits can be “troubled” leading to great things! 2 Corinthians 7:5 – (thlibo) afflict, compress: Notice: God sent an agent of comfort! John 11:33 (Tarrasso) stirred, agitated led to powerful action! John 12:27; John 13:21 – facing heartache Mark 14:33-36 – (ademoneo) heavy, distressed. Response was decision that changed history and still working!
Words to Live By What Jesus says about Integrity Matthew 5:33-37 “You have heard it said…But I say to you, do not…” (1) Do Not … does not mean, you cannot (See v33) (See 2 Corinthians 1:18, Galatians 1:20, Matthew 26:63) Deuteronomy 23:21, “When you make a vow to the Lord your God, be prompt in fulfilling whatever you promised him. For the Lord your God demands that you promptly fulfill all your vows, or you will be guilty of sin.” Takeaway: Passionately Pursue Authenticity (2) Do Not … means ‘be not’ (deceitful) (See v34) (All words matter: See Colossians 3:8, James 3:10, Ephesians 5:4, Exodus 20:7) Matthew 12:36 (ESV), Jesus said… “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak…” Psalm 141:3, “Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.” Psalm 39:1, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth…” Takeaway: Ruthlessly Eradicate Duplicity (3) Do Not … means Be Different Matthew 12:34 “…whatever is in your heart determines what you say.” Takeaway: Every day, Live with Integrity See 1 Peter 3:8-12
“Kingdom Come” Sermon on the Mount Series Class 10: Matthew 5.21-48 QUESTION: What impact is the series having on your faith so far? 1. Raca and Reconciliation, 5.21-26 a. Murder is in view here, not 'killing'. Exodus 20.13. “These verses make one great point. The Old Testament law forbidding murder must not be thought adequately satisfied when no blood has been shed.” Carson, 46. ‘raca’: ‘empty’; ‘airhead’; ‘brainless’. The 'hell of fire’ - Gehenna; Molech (2 Kings 23:10; Jeremiah 7:31). b. Anger Jesus was angry (Matthew 21.12ff; Mark 3.1ff; Matthew 23.17). “In none of the cases in which Jesus became angry was his personal ego wrapped up in the issue.” Carson, 46. When he was at the point where ego might have been most involved, he was silent and submissive (1 Peter 2.23, Luke 23.34). c. Leave your gift When to leave your ‘gift’ (see Mark 11.25; Ephesians 4.26; Matt 5.9). Among children of the kingdom, acceptable worship involves repairing relationships. d. Swift settling with adversary It's kingdom or prison - take your choice! 2. Vows, 5.27-37 a. Lust: Exodus 20:14 “This is not a prohibition of the normal attraction which exists between men and women, but of the deep-seated lust which consumes and devours, which in imagination attacks and rapes, which mentally contemplates and commits adultery.” Carson, 49. Not ‘notices’. Not about sexual attraction, but intentional viewing aimed ultimately (even if only in fantasy) with consummating sex with another man’s wife. See David, 2 Samuel 11:2-4. b. Adultery Jesus ties together the seventh and tenth commandments - adultery and covetousness. c. Gouge A blinded person is perfectly capable of lust. “We must not pamper it, flirt with it, enjoy nibbling a little of it around the edges. We are to hate it, crush it, dig it out.” Carson, 49. See Colossians 3.5-6. We take sin so seriously because it causes so much pain. This is one reason we mourn, Matthew 5.4. d. Divorce: See Deut 24:1-4 Jesus not dealing with all issues regarding divorce and possible grounds for its permissibility, but to question whether divorce should be acceptable in the first place. Matt 19.3ff; Mal 2.16. The passion of love is preserved, nurtured, refined by the challenges of working through difficult times in marriage. Chrysostom links this passage with the Beatitudes. “For he that is meek, and a peacemaker, and poor in spirit, and merciful, how shall he cast out his wife? He that is used to reconcile others, how shall he be at variance with her who is his own?” e. Keeping promises Not a direct OT quote, but summary of several passages such as Exodus 20.7, Lev 19.12, Num 30.2-3, Deut 23.21-24. f. Do not swear an oath Jesus: Matthew 26.63-64 The OT does permit the taking of oaths - even in the name of God (Deut 10.20). Paul uses them (Rom 1.9, 2 Cor 1.23, 1 Thess 2.5, 10, Phil 1.8). God does it (Gen 9.9-11, 22.16, Lk 1.68, 73, Ps 16.10, Acts 2.27-31, Heb 6.17). Jesus got very upset about this issue later - Matt 23.16-22. The church took note - James 5.12. If we live like Christ, expressing the beatitudes, we will never need an oath. Part 3 - Love in the extreme, 5.38-47 a. Eye for an eye: Exodus 21, Leviticus 24, Deuteronomy 19 A limiting law not a permissive one. The law was given to Israel as a nation and was to be administered by the correct legal authorities. This was not for individuals to engage in. b. Do not resist Jesus does resist the Pharisees. And yet he does not resist those who crucify him. The cloak was not something that the law allowed to be taken from a man (Ex 22.26ff). The Roman soldier had the right to commandeer a civilian to carry his luggage. How should we respond? Presumably with a Christ-like spirit. Joyful, not grumpy! c. Give to the one who asks The issue is not foolish giving, but joyful generosity. For wisdom and folly in lending see Proverbs 11:15; 17:18; 22:26. d. Love your enemy, Matt. 5:43; see Lev 19.18 'Revenge is a confession of pain': LATIN PROVERB 'An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind': MAHATMA GHANDI 'While seeking revenge, dig 2 graves-one for yourself': DOUGLAS HORTON Jesus prayed for his enemies - even on the cross! (Luke 23.34). God is one who loves his enemies (John 3.16, Romans 5.8). God's enemies are valuable to him, so they should be to his followers. Loving our enemies is not the same as accommodating our abusers. Conclusion, Matthew 5.48 “teleios” - complete. Spiritual maturity: 1 Cor 2:6; 14:20; Phil 3:15 The admonitions of chapter 5 are not just rules, they are the outworking of the implications of following a holy, pure God. We are adopting and growing into his character. Jesus is centre-stage in this chapter in more ways than one. He is the authority. As he re-interprets and clarifies the Old Testament teachings we see an authority that goes way beyond past prophets and rabbis. He is revealing his divinity, since only divinity could re-interpret the divinely-given law. Rabbis never said, “but I tell you” since they knew they were not inspired. By taking this phrase Jesus indicates he is inspired. QUESTION: How will this passage affect the way you live this week? Thank you for listening to this podcast. God affirms a covenant with Abraham (no longer called Abram) to be the father of a multitude through Isaac, if Abraham will walk faithfully and obediently with God. Abraham responds to God's offer by circumcising himself and his household that same day. For us, circumcision of the foreskin holds no value, but Christ does circumcise our flesh when we raised to new life in Him. See Colossians 2:11-14
