Investigative journalist Erlend Ofte Arntsen of Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang joins the podcast to discuss his work on the Tinder Swindler story, adapted into a Netflix documentary. Erlend and his colleagues broke the story of Shimon Hayut, an Israeli con man who found women on the dating app, impressed them with private jets and bodyguards, concocted stories about being in great personal danger and then drained their bank accounts and left them with extraordinary credit card debt. This episode originally aired on February 15, 2022.

N'envoyez jamais d'argent. Et prenez votre temps, car comme le chantaient Les Supremes, You can't hurry love.
This week, we're discussing the popular Netflix documentary "The Tinder Swindler." The doc tells the story of Simon Leviev (real name: Shimon Hayut), who lied about being the son of a diamond tycoon and embellished his lavish lifestyle online to attract women. Not only was Simon juggling multiple women relationship-wise, he was also juggling their finances to finance his own life. By love bombing these ladies for a few months to get them invested in the relationship, he was then able to begin asking them for financial help. And we're not talking a few hundred bucks, we are talking hundreds of thousands in some cases! ...The girls were down bad. But through the help of journalists, and some detective work of their own, a few of Simons exes are finally able to bring him down. "The Tinder Swindler" is available to stream on Netflix.
Simon Levievet izraeli playboy-ként, a Tinder-csalások egyik legismertebb elkövetőjeként ismeri a világ.

If you haven't yet seen The Tinder Swindler on Netflix, check out the wild story about Shimon Hayut, an Israeli con man, and the women he bilked for hundreds of thousands. In this episode, Uri and Rivky are joined by repeat guest Dr. Shayna Weiss, professor and expert in Israeli history, society, and media, to talk about Hayut's con, how his Israeli, Charedi, and Mizrahi identities come into play, and "gvir culture."

What is a Ponzi scheme? You may have seen the recently released Netflix documentary about the Tinder Swindler, Simon Leviev, or Shimon Hayut to give him his birth name. Between 2017 and 2019s, he conned a series of women out of their money, extorting nearly $10M in total. Leviev's criminal activity is an example of what's known as a Ponzi scheme. This form of fraud is named after Charles Ponzi, an Italian conman who operated in North America in the 1920s. How do these scams work then? Can you tell me more about Charles Ponzi himself? How can I avoid falling victim to a Ponzi scheme then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the last episodes, you can click here: What is Kingdom Hearts? This week We talk about the smash hit. The Tinder Swindler. The experience of three women who fell victim to romance scammer Shimon Hayut has gained the world's attention this week in the new Netflix documentary 'The Tinder Swindler', but the story behind the popular show was broken by Norwegian publication VG in 2019.
In this OPEN(HEART) episode of the OPENHOUSE Podcast, we get into the topic that everyone is talking about - the crazy Netflix documentary - The Tinder Swindler, The so-called Tinder Swindler is Shimon Hayut (aka 'Simon Leviev'), a convicted fraudster born in Israel. He used dating apps to meet multiple women, then got them to take out loans and credit in their names, ultimately leaving them holding the bills when he would later disappear - but not before he had spent ALL of the money on an insanely lavish lifestyle that he used to impress OTHER women. ⠀In today's episode, Louise & Dr Tari break down: ⠀⇢ The psychology of Attachment Hunger - something that starts in childhood when we don't get the appropriate bonding and nurturing form our parent figures, and then later shows up in adult life as attaching too quickly to romantic partners;⠀⇢ The reason that so many people today ignore red flags; ⠀⇢ Why sexual validation and attention are not the same as healthy loving care; ⠀⇢ The importance of knowing ourselves before we can really know another; and ⠀⇢ Why some people only attract superficial relationships.⠀Louise Rumball & Dr Tari Mack also break down the specifics of the situation and look at; ⠀⇢ Immediate red flags that should have been picked up on in the episode; ⠀⇢ How to navigate dating apps when meeting someone new (+ the questions you have to ask); ⠀⇢ How to actually get to know someone;⠀⇢ How to keep an eye out for someone like the Tinder Swindler so you can avoid at all costs; and⠀⇢ The importance of boundaries and time to attach when you meet someone new. ⠀–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– ⠀Let us know how you enjoyed the episode and be sure to share this on social media, as well as giving us a rating and review on Apple or Spotify.⠀Connect with Louise on social: @iamlouiserumball⠀Connect with OPENHOUSE: @openhouselife⠀Sign up to join the OPENHOUSE mailing list to receive first access to all workshops, courses and live events: www.thisisopenhouse.com⠀–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– ⠀Music Sources⠀Vibe With Me by Joakim Karud http://soundcloud.com/joakimkarud⠀Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/-7YDBIGCXsY

Kathleen opens the show drinking a Bull Durham Light Ale, which she picked up on her recent weekend in North Carolina. She reviews the fun at the shows in Durham and Charlotte, and tells the Termites about her favorite BBQ restaurants in both cities: The Original Q Shack, and Mac's Speed Shop.“GOOD BAD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food AND in continuing her search for the best Ranch, Kathleen samples Carolina Kettle Dill Pickle Chips, which she absolutely loves. She moves on to try Dean's Sports Bar Nashville Hot Flavored Dip, which she doesn't like and thinks it tastes more like BBQ sauce than Nashville Hot Chicken. QUEEN'S COURT: Kathleen is excited to report that Queen Dolly has announced that she is giving away free college tuition to all 11,000 employees of her Dollywood Theme Park, and will cover 100% of employees' tuition, fees, and books.UPDATES: Kathleen gives updates on her thoughts on the Ram's Super Bowl win, the St. Louis gun-pointing McCluskey's, and the missing cobra in Grand Prairie TX.THE TINDER SWINDLER: Kathleen is amazed at the delusion of a few women's actions in the name of “true love” as outlined in the new Netflix documentary “The Tinder Swindler.” Shimon Hayut, the con man at the center of the show, allegedly met women on Tinder before swindling them for millions of dollars after catfishing them into believing he was the son of Israeli diamond tycoon Lev Leviev. “HOLY SHIT THEY FOUND IT”: Kathleen is amazed to read that dozens of decapitated corpses have been found in a Roman-era cemetery an hour outside of London, and an ancient chalk drum was found in a child's grave in England, which is being billed as the “most important” piece of prehistoric art in 100 years. ALABAMA ATTACK SQUIRREL: Kathleen reads at the absurdity of a story from Alabama where a drug bust in Athens turned up meth, ammunition, body armor, and a crazy meth-addicted caged squirrel. The homeowner fed meth to the animal to keep it aggressive to train it to enact “protective” actions. ICE FISHING WHORES: Kathleen laughs out loud reading an article out of Hudson, OH where Mayor Craig Shubert has resigned after making international headlines when he voiced concerns that allowing ice fishing at a local park would bring prostitution to the city.A FOUR-STORY ROGUE WAVE: Kathleen loves any weather-related news and is excited to read a report about a giant four-story rogue wave that has broken records off the coast of Vancouver Island. No rogue waves have been observed directly in high sea states, and the probability of such an event occurring is one in 1,300 years. BORED SECURITY GUARD DESTROYS FAMOUS PAINTING: Kathleen laughs out loud reading an article describing the activities of a bored Russian museum guard who damaged a famous painting by drawing cartoon eyes onto two faces of Anna Leporskaya's 1934 “Three Figures.” DISAPPEARING RESTAURANT CHAINS: Kathleen shares an article announcing 8 US-based restaurant chains that are still struggling after the pandemic, and are shedding hundreds of locations in an effort to survive. THE GATES OF HELL ARE CLOSING FOREVER: Kathleen shares an advisory announcing that the Gates of Hell, which is a fiery crater that has been burning in the Karakum Desert since 1971, is closing as Turkmenistan's President has ordered the government to begin researching how to extinguish the eternal flame. KATHLEEN'S OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE: Kathleen reminds all Termites who want to receive the latest news, tour info, and engage other Termites to follow her official Facebook page, Instagram page, Twitter account, and YouTube channel since she has absolutely NO relationship with any other social media page and doesn't approve their activity. WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Kathleen absolutely recommends watching “Inventing Anna” and “The Tinder Swindler” both on Netflix. This week, we're bringing you a fusion episode where we talk about the two holidays of February- the Olympics and Valentine's Day. Nat gets fired up about America's opening ceremony outfits, snowboarding, and how cool it is that TikTok is allowing athletes to give a behind the scenes look into the Olympics. Then, Toni needs some advice for a Valentine's Day gift so naturally we head to Buzzfeed for some very unhelpful ideas. Finally, we discuss how blinding love can be, especially if you're dating the Tinder Swindler, Simon Leviev (aka Shimon Hayut). Whether you've met the love of your life or you're still out there swiping, we can all celebrate not being $250,000 in debt after a failed Tinder date.

In this episode, we'll break down the terrifying tale of conman Shimon Hayut aka the Tinder Swindler and the lessons we can learn on how to avoid getting conned by f*ck boys.
