A 35ª edição da mais importante competição de futebol da África começa neste domingo (21) no Marrocos. A seleção anfitriã mede forças contra Comores e sonha com o bicampeonato, já que conquistou seu primeiro título em 1976. Adversário do Brasil na estreia na Copa do Mundo de 2026, Marrocos foi semifinalista do último Mundial, em 2022; o melhor resultado da história de um país africano no torneio. Marcio Arruda, da RFI em Paris A Copa Africana de Nações (CAN), realizada entre dezembro e janeiro, vai reunir 24 países, que têm apenas um objetivo: o título continental. Essa CAN promete ser a mais prestigiada da história da competição, já que sete das nove seleções que vão disputar a Copa do Mundo de 2026 estarão em campo. “Esta edição vai ter muito mais pessoas assistindo porque, no Mundial do próximo ano, nove seleções africanas vão participar. Entre as que estarão na Copa do Mundo, apenas Cabo Verde e Gana não vão jogar esta CAN. Mas a verdade é que as outras sete vão estar presentes e será uma oportunidade para os treinadores que vão enfrentá-las na próxima Copa observarem suas forças e suas fraquezas e já fazerem um trabalho de preparação", analisa Marco Martins, jornalista português especializado na Copa Africana de Nações. "Em jogos amistosos, estas seleções podem esconder um pouco as táticas, a maneira de jogar, quem são as estrelas e como são técnica e taticamente. Mas desta vez é uma competição oficial. É um torneio que as seleções africanas adoram; para elas, é uma honra conquistar esse troféu. É como a Eurocopa para os europeus. É um orgulho ser a principal seleção do continente. E agora as seleções não vão poder esconder o jogo”, argumenta Martins. "O Brasil, por exemplo, vai jogar contra o Marrocos na Copa. Então, será uma oportunidade para o técnico Ancelotti tomar algumas notas e ver o potencial da equipe marroquina. Esta será uma CAN muito assistida justamente pelo fato de que faltam aproximadamente seis meses para a Copa do Mundo. Esta edição vai despertar muito mais interesse e terá uma grande visibilidade", completou Marco Martins. Sotaque português na Copa Africana Se Cabo Verde, que estará na Copa do Mundo, não vai disputar a CAN, outras duas seleções lusófonas jogarão em estádios marroquinos. “Temos a presença de Angola e Moçambique. Penso que são duas seleções que caíram em grupos bastante difíceis, mas eu realmente acho que podem fazer uma boa figuração no torneio”, opinou o técnico português Nuno da Silva. O treinador, que recentemente integrou a comissão técnica do União Desportiva do Songo, de Moçambique, analisou as chances da seleção moçambicana, que já disputou seis Copas Africanas e vai estrear nesta edição contra a atual campeã Costa do Marfim. “O grupo de Moçambique está estruturado com o retorno do capitão Dominguês e de outros jogadores que há anos fazem parte do elenco. Os jovens que têm entrado ainda não têm lugares cativos entre os 11 titulares. O grupo se manteve uniforme e isso pode ser uma vantagem para a seleção moçambicana”, disse. “Em uma competição como esta não se trata de ter grupos fáceis ou não. O momento de cada seleção vai ditar muita coisa na competição”, resume Nuno da Silva. Nuno também tem passagem pelo Interclube, um dos principais times de Angola. O treinador de 40 anos analisou a seleção angolana, que fará sua décima participação na CAN e, nesta edição, disputará seu primeiro jogo contra a África do Sul. “No grupo de Angola tem um novo técnico que já teve passagem pela seleção como treinador adjunto. Regressa agora ao país que conhece, mas numa função distinta e de mais importância. O grupo teve alguns regressos que estavam fora com o treinador anterior, teve também algumas perdas, e penso que neste aspecto, comparado a Moçambique, a seleção de Angola tem algo a perder porque vai precisar de mais tempo para assimilar as ideias do treinador”, explicou. Salah turbinado para esta CAN? Um dos favoritos no grupo de Angola é o Egito, maior vencedor da Copa Africana de Nações com sete conquistas. Entretanto, a última foi há 15 anos, em 2010. Principal jogador da seleção egípcia, Mohamed Salah, que busca sua primeira conquista pelo país, atravessa um momento delicado em seu clube, o Liverpool, da Inglaterra. O treinador da equipe, Arne Slot, deixou Salah fora do time titular nas últimas rodadas da Premier League. Tudo porque o atacante o criticou publicamente. E será que o técnico Nuno da Silva acha que essa desavença pode prejudicar o rendimento do jogador na seleção do Egito? “Sinceramente, por se tratar de uma relação clube-seleção, eu acho que pode dar uma força enorme ao atleta. Penso que isso, a relação dele com o treinador Arne Slot, é um problema interno do Liverpool. Voltar a ser o rosto e o símbolo da nação egípcia pode motivar bastante o Salah para a CAN. Acho que o Egito pode ficar muito mais forte com o Salah presente”, opinou Nuno. Equilíbrio entre os favoritos Além do Egito, há outras seleções favoritas ao título desta edição. Algumas por terem um jogador que pode decidir uma partida, outras pela força coletiva. “Não sei se poderá haver surpresas porque, no fundo, há muitas equipes que são favoritas, como o Marrocos, que é anfitriã, o Egito, que tem o Mohamed Salah, e a Nigéria, que conta com o Victor Osimhen. Há também a Tunísia, que é muito forte coletivamente, o Senegal, que vai a campo com Sadio Mané, a Argélia, que se destaca pelo coletivo, e finalmente a Costa do Marfim. Todas essas podem alcançar o título e estamos falando de um leque de quase dez seleções. A surpresa aconteceria se uma das duas seleções lusófonas, que até hoje nunca foram campeãs, chegasse ao título", afirmou Marco Martins.  "É importante falar que há um tipo de hierarquia, como acontece na América do Sul e na Europa. Na África, temos oito ou dez seleções que podem conquistar a CAN", explica o jornalista Marco Martins. "Então, eu não espero surpresa nesta edição. Daquelas que citei, se uma delas for campeã, para mim não será surpreendente”, cravou. O treinador Nuno disse que “os candidatos ao título acabam por ser os habituais, como Marrocos, por jogar em casa, Costa do Marfim, por ser a atual campeã, e outras seleções que podem ter boas atuações. Eu acho que Moçambique pode fazer uma 'gracinha' no grupo e ir longe na competição. Angola, claramente pela qualidade da seleção, pode pensar em algo além da simples passagem pela fase de grupos”. O jornalista Marco Martins não acredita que as duas seleções de língua portuguesa chegarão longe nesta CAN. “Se Angola ou Moçambique vencerem, será uma surpresa. Penso o mesmo sobre a Guiné Equatorial, Sudão, Botsuana e Benin”, opinou. Campeã aos trancos e barrancos Marco também lembrou o título da Costa do Marfim na última edição da Copa Africana. “Foi uma surpresa a Costa do Marfim alcançar o título. Apesar de jogar em casa, a campanha foi turbulenta. Lembro que algo não funcionava naquela seleção nos primeiros jogos e houve a troca de técnico. Era o clique que precisavam. Conseguiram avançar da fase de grupos graças a uma combinação de resultados. A classificação para as oitavas de final parece ter sido a motivação extra que a equipe precisava. Situação rara, mas não inédita. Na Eurocopa de 2016, Portugal terminou em terceiro no seu grupo e avançou às oitavas por ter sido um dos melhores terceiros colocados na competição”, contou o jornalista português. O regulamento daquela Euro permitia a classificação às oitavas das duas melhores seleções de cada grupo, além de quatro equipes com melhor desempenho entre as que ficaram em terceiro lugar nas suas respectivas chaves. “Depois de passar pela fase de grupos, Portugal conseguiu chegar à final e foi campeão ao vencer a França, que jogava em casa no Stade de France. Isso mostra que, de vez em quando, seleções e clubes conseguem dar a volta por cima. Na temporada passada, por exemplo, o PSG teve muitas dificuldades na Champions League. Na penúltima partida da primeira fase contra o Manchester City, em determinado momento, o PSG estava sendo eliminado, mas conseguiram reverter a situação, ganharam o jogo, se classificaram para os playoffs somente na última rodada, avançaram na competição e venceram a Liga dos Campeões. E algo parecido aconteceu com a Costa do Marfim”, completou. Apesar de ter conquistado o título da última edição da CAN, a equipe marfinense teve uma campanha irregular, que ficou marcada pela troca de treinador durante a competição. Depois da fase de grupos, o francês Jean-Louis Gasset foi demitido e o auxiliar marfinense Emerse Faé assumiu o comando da seleção até a vitória na final por 2 a 1 diante da Nigéria.
