My guest this week was Tara Anderson, or as you might know her online – Tara Makeup. Makeup artist, model, actor, influencer and entrepreneur are all roles Tara has had in her life, but her job as mam to Gene and Jools, her 6 and 3-year-old sons, is the one we chatted most about in this episode. Tara talks candidly about her two very different experiences of pregnancy and birth, about how she's a private person in spite of being well known online, and how even for her, comparison can be the thief of joy at times. We chat about how parenting now is totally different to the parenting our own parents would've done, and how full of doubt we can be at times as to whether we're doing the right things. Tara is one of those people who you look at online and think 'how does she do it', but from talking to her I can tell that she's just like the rest of us: Doing the best for her family through the good and the bad. Thank you so much for listening today, and throughout season 14, and I'll be talking to you again soon. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Everything starts with a vision, a plan, and the willingness to get out and do whatever it takes to make a dream a reality.  Is it easy?   No?  Is it worth it?  If you don't quit.  It's always worth it, one million percent.  Marlo and Tara Anderson have been running Marlo's Backyard Barbecue in Mississippi for 10 years. Marlowe originally worked full-time driving a delivery and milk truck, but quit when he got positive feedback from the community. They've been in their current location for 8 years and recently purchased a trailer to reach more customers. The menu has been expanded to include healthier options such as tacos, nachos, and grilled fish, as well as barbecue, fried food, bake food, and short orders. To stay motivated, Marlo recommends prayer and never getting too comfortable with selling. Key Lessons Marlo and Tara Anderson have been running Marlowe's Backyard Barbecue in Mississippi for 10 years. They recently purchased a trailer to reach more customers and have expanded their menu to include healthier options. Marlo recommends prayer and never getting too comfortable with selling to stay motivated.   Connect with Marlo: Facebook Phone: 601-667-3375   How to Get Involved: Patrick Bolanos is a serial entrepreneur, business owner, and CEO of Trailer King Builders in Houston, Texas. He was raised in Nicaragua, exposed to extreme poverty, and also had the fortune of being exposed to life in the United States traveling back and forth to both countries.  After college, Patrick's career took him into the corporate world of banking where he learned the important lessons of understanding what you're selling and why it's important to believe in it.  Back in December of 2017, Patrick was fired from his job as a CFO for a Restaurant Group.  With only $500 to his name, rent due, his wife, 3 children at home, and one on the way, he was forced to figure out how to pull his family out of this financial abyss that was strangling his life.  With no knowledge of how to build a trailer, Patrick simply figured all of it out and has now built it into the thriving empire of what's now become Trailer King Builders.

Positioning: school IT systems collect and manage sensitive data about students, about their parents, guardians, and families, about educators and other school staff, and about school district operations. In some cases, these IT systems are locally hosted on school district premises or in shared hosting arrangements with other local government entities; increasingly, they are hosted by an ecosystem of vendors ‘in the cloud' on systems accessible by any internet-connected device. While there are myriad benefits to the adoption and use of IT systems by school districts—and to the collection and sharing of education-related data with trusted partners—it is important we acknowledge that any adoption of technology also introduces cybersecurity risk. 145 data breach incidents involving public schools (representing 36 percent of all incidents disclosed during 2020). Why have cyber threats to schools escalated? What types of information/data are cyber criminals after? Why is this form of training delivery becoming so popular? As security awareness is an important part of a preventative plan. How would you incorporate the training to encourage the most adoption? The Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s summary propelled her to become engaged in her local community by exploring a deeper understanding of Indigenous history and culture. Tara speaks about embracing awkward questions. She highlights the important first steps to understanding reconciliation – educate ourselves, find mentors who can walk with us, and show up to places where we will meet new people. “If we aren't in the same space it is difficult to build relationships,” Tara states, encouraging her audience to take action. We invited Tara into our house and around our dining room table to have a conversation around these five questions: 1. How would you define reconciliation?2. Imua (pronounced ee-moo-ah) Services, founded by our guest Meghan Alonso, helps startup companies and individuals get their medical innovations up and running.  The hawaiian word “imua” means “to advance forward with passion despite rough waves”.   With nearly 75% of all startups in this field failing, Meghan’s company offers training, education and connections to key development partners, tailored to the client’s needs so they can bring their life-changing and even life-saving technology to the world.   Meghan’s passion stems from some rough waves due to medical issues for her and her family.   Meghan was born with a folded retina in her left eye that by the time she was in college was replaced with a custom made, hand painted prosthetic eye which looks almost imperceptibly real.  She also has an extra vertebrae in her spine which has resulted in numerous issues including scoliosis, disk herniations, and a tilted pelvis among others.  She had a love of dance and gymnastics, and despite pain which she learned how to manage through exercise, she excelled at both, and even did gymnastics right through college. Her family’s biggest challenge though came from an unidentified illness that plagued her brother, which was eventually identified as Hepatitis C.  Both Meghan and her mother also tested positive for it.  Meghan’s mother likely contracted through a blood transfusion in the mid ‘70s which she transferred to her son and Meghan in utero.  This led to 7 different treatments of low-dose chemotherapy. Through this challenging time they kept moving forward, and now happily report that all three of them are completely free of the disease. Meghan’s passion for surfing led her to Hawaii where she enrolled in a graduate program that ended up not being for her.  After one semester, she dropped out, and surfed all over the island.  She worked at the 4 Seasons Lanai which she loved but eventually realized she didn’t see herself doing it long term.  She obtained Exercise Science Master’s Program in Houston and eventually settled in San Diego.  There she helped athletes reach their full potential.  This led to her working in an orthopedic rehab clinic where she was exposed to medical devices, and a multitude of patients with different rehab protocols.  She was later invited to build a rehab center from the ground up which is now a three center organization. When she moved on from there, she Meghan had the opportunity to live out one of her childhood dreams of dancing on TV and with the Ooh La La salsa dancing troupe, toured all over Europe and the US.  She also was part of America’s Got Talent in Season 6.  All the dancing took a toll on her body, and the pain in her back became increasingly worse and she discovered she also had hip dysplasia and she had damaged the lining of both of her hip sockets.  This led to surgery in Colorado which involved a hip replacement.  Her experience at the clinic led her to finally dive into the field of medical devices.   She started Imua in 2015 after she had been working in medical product development.  The company she was working for was predominantly an engineering firm that innovators used to take care of the engineering component of the device idea.  She soon found herself being contacted by passionate people who had great ideas, but no idea how to get started.   Initially, she offered them resources to help them get started, and soon, it became a business. Meghan helps her clients navigate the complicated process of bringing their ideas to the marketplace.  Whether they move towards actually manufacturing and marketing their product, or selling the idea to a company who can do so, Imua’s mission remains to become the world leader in helping entrepreneurs, scientists, students and inventors bring their life changing ideas to fruition.
