India's ambitious Project Cheetah was projected as a historic wildlife comeback story. But an exclusive document accessed by ThePrint reveals a troubling side to the conservation effort. Between 2022 and 2024, cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park were reportedly tranquilised 110 times for management, medical interventions, and to prevent them from straying outside park boundaries. Wildlife experts warn that repeated chemical immobilisation can have long-term physiological and behavioural consequences for the big cats.----more----Link to the story:https://theprint.in/feature/kuno-cheetahs-tranquilised-project-inspection-report/2942453/

"Between a 'mild' chicken tikka and the cinematic lanes of Edinburgh, a blueprint for saving Jaipur's UNESCO World Heritage status can be found. I am not sure I will be taking home the recipe for the chicken tikka masala. It is something best enjoyed in Scotland and Scotland only. Recent evidence from Mohenjo Daro does not suggest that urbanisation at the site is dated to 3300 BCE. Rather, it indicates that the site is rooted in a much earlier, pre-urban phase. For decades, India's growth story has rested on the spectacular rise of its middle class. But a new book argues that this very group—roughly 40 million income-tax–paying households—is now under acute strain. Facing a convergence of job disruption, wage stagnation, and rising debt, the middle class may no longer be the engine of growth it once was. This is the argument made in a new book titled, Breakpoint: The Crisis of the Middle Class and the Future of Work. It is authored by Saurabh Mukherjea, along with Nandita Rajhansa and Sapana Bhavsar Saurabh is the founder of Marcellus Investment Managers and the author of six previous books. Prior to setting up Marcellus, Saurabh was the CEO of Ambit Capital. He is also a Founding Director of the Association of Portfolio Managers in India Nandita is an economist and a small and midcap analyst at Marcellus. She's the co-author of a national bestseller, Behold the Leviathan: The Unusual Rise of Modern India, which was published in 2024. Milan speaks with Saurabh and Nandita about the Indian middle class's most vulnerable moment since 1991, the hollowing out of middle-skill jobs, the structural challenges with India's education system, the worrying trend in declining placement rates and salaries, and the explosion in household debt. Plus, the trio discuss how AI and automation are remaking the Indian economy—both for good and for ill. Episode notes: Saurabh Mukherjea and Nandita Rajhansa, “Educated and employed but still struggling: India's middle class under strain,” BBC, March 30, 2026. “A Sixth of Humanity and the Dreams of a Nation (with Devesh Kapur and Arvind Subramanian),” Grand Tamasha, October 22, 2025. Saurabh Mukherjea, Nandita Rajhansa and Sapana Bhavsar, “Graduate and unemployed: India's middle-class rulebook for career & success no longer works,” ThePrint, March 23, 2026.

Former CEC TN Seshan was feared, formidable & famously outspoken. He was never partisan. In contrast, Gyanesh Kumar has a cavalier disdain, even disrespect, toward the Opposition. Gyanesh Kumar's actions represent a systematic erosion of constitutional guarantees. Gyanesh Kumar is not guilty of only administrative excess. He has been a constitutional failure. The Republic cannot function with a compromised umpire. Elections cannot be credible if the referee is in question, bent on demolishing the level playing field. And democracy cannot survive if the voter is treated as a suspect. Kumar's tenure has raised too many questions, triggered too many doubts, and crossed too many lines. The cost of inaction is simply too high. Therefore, constitutionally and unequivocally, CEC Gyanesh Kumar must go. 'Muslim' reservation isn't a religious issue. It must be rooted in measurable backwardness. The year 2025 closed with a series of consumer rights breaches in the services sector. In early December, IndiGo cancelled and rescheduled flights en masse due to operational mismanagement and pilot scheduling issues. In the securities markets, —Avadhut Sathe Trading Academy was alleged to have misled its students on various counts. And, in a lesser-known incident, a consumer approached the Supreme Court over an incorrect negative credit score that refused to rectify despite previous court orders. In all three cases, an arm of the State intervened, but consumers did not get compensation for the harms they suffered. This underscores a larger faultine: the law has weakened the average Indian consumer by taking away their agency to sue the service provider and obtain relief for themselves. If we're serious about consumer welfare, we must empower them to sue, invidually where possible and collectively, where necessary. Watch this week's column by Bhargavi Zaveri-Shah for #ThePrint
