Suppose we had to get round to this one at some point, eh? “Korn," released in 1994 to an unsuspecting audience, is the self-titled debut album by the American Nu-Metal band Korn (but don't tell them they're Nu-Metal, cause they are). This groundbreaking record is often credited with birthing the nu-metal genre, blending heavy metal with elements of hip-hop and alternative rock. The album features raw, emotionally charged lyrics that delve into themes of pain, alienation, and personal struggle, reflecting the tumultuous experiences of lead vocalist Jonathan Davis. Tracks like "Blind," "Shoots and Ladders," and "Clown" showcase the band's signature sound, characterised by heavy guitar riffs, weirdly aggressive drumming, and Davis's distinctive vocal style, which switches between haunting melodies and fierce, animalistic growls. The album's innovative approach and unfiltered honesty resonated with a generation of listeners yearning for the new thing, earning Korn a dedicated following. Labelled by more than one source as the most important change in metal music, it laid the groundwork for countless bands that followed in the nu-metal and alternative metal scenes. We cover all tracks on the album as well as picking a few tracks from later offerings. 1994 ay? What a time….. John Carpenter's The Thing from 1982 we treated incredibly harshly upon it's initial release. Labelled disgusting and mean on arrival audiences gradually turned around on it with it becomming one of the greatest horror movies of all time. The lack of student supports in the recent budget has been branded as 'disgraceful' by a student representative. It follows the publication of the Union of Students in Ireland's election manifesto which urges the government to develop a strategic plan to tackle the student accommodation crisis. Although the budget included fee reductions and increases to the SUSI grant, its claimed not enough was done to tackle the issue of homelessness amongst students. Students Union President at the University of Galway, Faye Ní Dhomhnaill, claims that with the lack of assists made available to students, they are having to come to terms with being lower class citizens.

Data labelling is a critical step in developing AI models, providing the foundation for accurate predictions and smart decision-making. Labelled data helps machine learning algorithms understand input data by assigning meaningful tags to raw data—such as images, text, or audio—ensuring that AI models can recognise patterns and make informed decisions. AI models struggle to learn and perform tasks effectively without high-quality labelled data. Proper data labelling enhances model accuracy, reduces errors, and accelerates the time it takes to train AI systems. Whether you're working with natural language processing, image recognition, or predictive analytics, the success of your AI project hinges on the quality of your labelled data.In this episode, Henry Chen, Co-founder and COO of Sapien, speaks to Paulina Rios Maya about the importance of data labelling in training AI models. Key Takeaways:Data labelling converts raw data into structured data that machine learning models can recognise.Reducing bias and ensuring data quality are critical challenges in data labelling.Expert human feedback plays a crucial role in improving the accuracy of AI training data and refining AI models.Chapters: 00:00 - Introduction and Background01:07 - Data Labeling: Converting Raw Data into Useful Data03:02 - Challenges in Data Labeling: Bias and Data Quality07:46 - The Role of Expert Human Feedback09:41 - Ethical Considerations and Compliance11:09 - The Evolving Nature of AI Models and Continuous Improvement14:50 - Strategies for Updating and Improving Training Data17:12 - Conclusion

An Ennis Green Party representative insists that despite Ireland's improvements in reducing carbon emissions, the country still remains one of the worst in Europe. It follows the publication of the Climate Change Advisory Council's latest review of the built environment sector, which highlights a 7.1% decrease in carbon emissions between 2022 and 2023. The Built Environment Review outlines detailed observations and recommendations for all residential, commercial and public buildings. From within this sector the majority of emissions arise from fossil fuels used for heating space and water. One of the key recommendations of the review was to phase out this use of fossil fuels through the use of heat pumps and district heating systems. According to the 2022 census, 71,000 households across the country used heat pumps, with 57,198 using air source heat pumps and 13,958 using ground source heat pumps, while a further 3,769 were installed in 2023. The review also found that only two district heating systems are likely to be in place by 2030. Futureproof Clare member, Sinead Sheehan says this falls drastically below the targets set out by government. The Built Environment Sector Review also reccomends the renovation of derelict and vacant properties, as this can support reductions in carbon emissions. There is currently grants available of €50,000 and €70,000 for upgrading vacant and derelict houses respectively, while an additional energy grant also serves as an incentive for those looking to renovate. Ennis Green Party Representative, Bridget Ginninty has called for Clare County Council to be proactive in this area, to keep Ireland trending in the right direction when it comes to reducing carbon emissions.
Lindsay is joined by author Nicole Von Germeten to discuss her book, Death in Old Mexico: The 1789 Dongo Murders and How They Shaped the History of a Nation. In a Mexico City mansion on October 23, 1789, Don Joaquín Dongo and ten of his employees were brutally murdered by three killers armed with machetes. Investigators worked tirelessly to find the perpetrators, who were publicly executed two weeks later. Labelled the 'crime of the century,' these events and their aftermath have intrigued writers of fiction and nonfiction for over two centuries. Using a vast range of sources, Nicole von Germeten recreates a paper trail of Enlightenment-era greed and savagery, and highlights how the violence of the Mexican judiciary echoed the acts of the murderers. The Spanish government conducted dozens of executions in Mexico City's central square in this era, revealing how European imperialism in the Americas influenced perceptions of violence and how it was tolerated, encouraged, or suppressed. An evocative history, Death in Old Mexico provides a compelling new perspective on late colonial Mexico City.Trained as a historian of Spain and its global empire at the University of California, Berkeley, Nicole von Germeten's research has taken her to dozens of archives and libraries on three continents. Her first two books investigated African populations and their social and religious organizations. More recently, she has written five books about the history of crime and policing in Colombia and Mexico. We discuss her book “Death in Old Mexico: The 1789 Dongo Murders and How They Shaped The History of a Nation.” Labeled the “crime of the century,” these events and their aftermath have intrigued writers of fiction and nonfiction for more than two centuries. Using a vast range of sources, Nicole von Germeten recreates a paper trail of Enlightenment-era greed and savagery, and highlights how the violence of the Mexican judiciary echoed the acts of the murderers. The past week ended with a controversial bang as the former President, Donald Trump, was declared guilty in a heavily disputed case. An array of legal analysts, ranging from conservatives to liberals, have questioned the legitimacy of the presented charges. Labelled as 34 'manufactured' felonies, these allegations were connected to a confidential payment made to an adult performer before Trump's triumph in the 2016 Presidential elections. Despite the controversy, the aftermath of the verdict was somewhat astonishing. Trump's campaign fundraising demonstrably peaked, experiencing a significant boost. Evidence indicates that the campaign has gathered well over $200 million in donations -- a considerable monetarily manifestation of support that emerged quickly post-verdict; a neat $53 million was raised in the aftermath of the court's decision. This spiral of financial aid was meticulously documented by multiple social media accounts and news platforms. Interestingly, a significant portion of the total funds accumulated by Trump's campaign originated from Republican high-roller, Miriam Adelson. Adelson, a known influencer in the party, demonstrated her intent to funnel tens of millions of dollars into a pro-Trump SuperPAC, after assessing various potential candidates during the primary. In the preceding year of 2020, the late Sheldon Adelson, a casino tycoon, and his spouse emerged as the leading contributors to the Preserve America PAC - offering their support to Trump's endeavor with a whopping $90 million. A recent report by Politico clarified that Miriam Adelson planned to back Trump's campaign with an astonishing $100 million donation.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A high-profile chief executive in the shipping sector, Angela Chao, tragically lost her life last month in Texas after her car plunged into a pond. The tragic episode transpired under the influence of excessive alcohol, as per a recent report from the Blanco County Sheriff's Office. Labelled as an unfortunate misfortune, the report noted Chao's blood alcohol concentration was nearly triple the legal limit as allowed by the state. The incident took place on the fateful night of February 10, a night that began with a warm gathering and dinner with an expansive group of friends. The rather rural setting of a ranch near Johnson City, located to the west of Austin, was where Chao spent her final hours. The tranquility of the locale was disrupted when Chao's Tesla found its way into a nearby pond. Her vehicle, a Tesla, miscued and moved back into the water close to a guest house on the ranch, painted a frantic scene that unfolded. Swift efforts by those present and deputies ensued to extract Chao form her sinking car. As the vehicle slipped further into the depths, Chao was still inside, leading to a desperate struggle for rescue. In her final moments, Angela Chao managed to contact her friend Amber Keinan at 11:42 p.m., trapped inside her vehicle as it began to submerge. The next 8 minutes were filled with fear and helplessness as Chao explained her dire predicament. The misfortune was magnified by her telling Keinan that the car was sinking, and she was facing an imminent and unavoidable fate. With love in her voice and acceptance in her heart, Chao conveyed her love to her friend, as shared in the report. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, she made her final adieus to Keinan. Her fearless confession of impending doom prompted immediate rescue attempts by those present. In desperation to bring her to safety, friends plunged into the water while another made a rushed journey toward the vehicle in a kayak. The severity of the situation prompted a 911 call at 11:55 p.m., with the caller managing to stay on the line dispensing critical information for an extended 11-minute call. Upon their arrival, emergency services including sheriff deputies and firefighters, sprang into action. Determined attempts were made to access the submerged Tesla, perpetuating the aerial feeling of urgency. They managed to penetrate the car by breaking the window on the driver's side, initiating the extraction process. In the swirling darkness and confusion, a deputy found and secured Chao's hand. With the help of multiple attending emergency crews, Chao was pulled from her car. Unfortunately, despite such valiant efforts, she was pronounced deceased upon reaching the shore. The time of death was confirmed as 1:40 a.m. on February 11. Subsequent toxicological investigations produced decisive, albeit unfortunate, results. The official report revealed a high blood alcohol concentration of 0.233 grams per 100 milliliters, placing it significantly above Texas's legal limit of 0.08. The array of events leading to the incident paints a solemn picture of Chao's final hours. Angela Chao was a profound executive figure in her family's business venture, the Foremost Group, helming the operations as the chair and CEO. Astonishingly, her responsibilities didn't end here. She was also the president of her father's charitable establishment, the Foremost Foundation, making notable contributions to her community. Residing in Austin, about 50 miles east of Blanco County, she was a cherished member of her community. As the youngest of six sisters in an immigrant family from China who moved to the U.S. in the late 1950s, Chao's absence resonates deeply. She was a beacon of success, a representative of the Asian-American community. In the aftermath of Angela Chao's departure, the loss felt by her family has been profound. Her father, James S.C. Chao, conveyed that her Chinese name echoed the terms peace and prosperity. With her passing, a void has been created, not just in the hearts of her family but the entire Asian-American community. In acknowledging the invaluable contribution of Angela, her father assumed the position of chairman of the Foremost Group following her demise. In addition, Michael Lee, another accomplished executive and former president, assumed the role of the president. These changes reflect the legacy that Chao left behind. Angela Chao is survived by her husband, her father, and her four sisters. Her untimely and tragic death has left them along with countless others mourning the unexpected loss. Despite the unfavorable circumstances that led to her death, Angela's memory and her contributions will continue to bear weight in hearts and memories of those who knew her. While the tragedy has resulted in the loss of an influential figure in the business and philanthropic sectors, it also conveys a cautionary reminder about the devastating consequences of driving under the influence. It's a poignant tale of a night that started with celebrations but ended in an unfortunate tragedy, permanently marking February 10 with profound sorrow. Ever been labelled as… An anxious person? A negative person? A depressed person? That you've imposter syndrome? Yes? Then this podcast episode is for you! I've felt all those feelings too. That I am winging it, out my comfort zone, stressed and sad. But just because you feel a certain way, it does not define you. When I started this podcast, I really felt imposter syndrome, but I did not let this define me, I just recognised that I felt it in certain moments. The problem is that when we give ourselves a label, we start to believe in them. We all have feelings, and they are either positive or negative. Its about using that sadness to find happiness. For example, what do you need to do to change your future which will make your past better? Your self-talk will define who you are and how you show up. Don't magnify the negativity! This podcast is about recognising that “sometimes” in a moment you will have those feelings – its normal, it's part of life – but does not need to define you. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode? All the best, Henri #Failure #NeverGiveUp #Entrepreneur
