These obstacles can be internal or external, but all of them can slow or even stagnate a believer's growth in Christ. 1. Lack of Biblical Knowledge and Study 2. Neglect of Prayer 3. Unconfessed Sin and Lack of Repentance 4. Worldly Distractions and Priorities 5. Lack of Discipleship and Church Community 6. Spiritual Laziness or Lack of Discipline 7. Unbelief or Doubt 8. Fear of Man or Persecution 9. Spiritual Warfare 10. Pride and Self-Sufficiency Overcoming These Hindrances To grow spiritually, Christians must be intentional about: Developing strong spiritual habits (Bible study, prayer, fasting, worship, service). Staying accountable in the local church through fellowship and discipleship. Relying on the Holy Spirit to overcome sin and distractions. Being diligent in faith despite trials and temptations. **(00:00) END PART 1** **(27:00 – 5:00) BEGIN PART 2** A church can easily drift from its biblical purpose if it is not intentional about staying focused on God's mission. Some of the common hindrances that prevent a church from remaining faithful to its biblical purpose: 1. Mission Drift (Losing Focus on the Great Commission) 2. Biblical Illiteracy Among Leaders and Members 3. Compromising with Culture 4. Overemphasis on Programs Instead of Discipleship 5. Leadership Failures and Power Struggles 6. Fear of Man and Avoidance of Hard Truths 7. Lack of Evangelism and Community Engagement 8. Division and Conflict 9. Prayerlessness 10. Materialism and Financial Mismanagement Overcoming These Hindrances For a church to stay faithful to its biblical purpose, it must: ✅ Stay rooted in sound doctrine and biblical teaching. ✅ Keep discipleship and evangelism as the central focus. ✅ Equip and release believers for ministry, not just entertain them. ✅ Commit to prayer and dependence on the Holy Spirit. ✅ Uphold godly leadership and unity in the church **(5:00 – 1:00)** Bibliology – Preservation of Scripture **(1:00)** The spiritual journey may seem long and slow sometimes, but don't give up. Keep on putting one foot in front of the other and get up when you fall down. You will face stumbling blocks but God is able to take you through them and even to strengthen you along the way. – “Thank you for listening today! Giving Thanks should be a daily part of the life of every disciple of Jesus. We have so much to be thankful for, we just so easily are distracted by the details of life. Last week we started a new afternoon Sermon Series called The Mountains of Bether. The Mountains of Bether are used in the Song of Solomon to refer to the barriers that stand between us and Jesus Christ our bridegroom. In Song 2:17, we ask Him to come to us as He has done in the past—like a gazelle (agility) or a young stag (passion) to get through whatever has come between us and Him. When He does, those mountains that separated us are transformed into mountains of spice—sweet monuments of His all-conquering love that unites us to Himself. This week, we are looking at the "mountain" of unconfessed sin.

A recent caller to the radio program asked if unconfessed sin hinders our prayers. Does it create an obstacle or blockage to our fellowship with God? What about the sins we forget to confess? In this video clip, I share how some religious teachers have used this approach to scare Christians into behaving. But what's intended as motivational has the opposite effect. It's a hijacking of forgiveness and a hedging on the blood of Christ. There's a much better solution.Celebrate the truth with me today! We hope you enjoyed this episode. Today, I am sharing something that has been on my heart for a few weeks and that is the notion that you can't out pray unconfessed sin. Now, I am not saying that you can't make a mistake and ask God to forgive you. What I am saying is you can't plant a seed with one hand and pull it up with the other hand. This week we are looking at the story of Achan, and the failed attempt to conquer the city of Ai. Israel has just come away with an amazing victory in Jericho where everything seemed to go according to plan. However, despite the great success of their initial conquest, there was "sin in the camp." Achan, presumably one of the fighting men, had taken treasures for himself despite strict instructions to leave all of the "devoted things," items meant for destruction. He is found out after a miserable failed attempt to take Ai where 36 Israelites are killed. When Joshua finally inquires of the Lord, the reason for the failure is revealed: "There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand until you remove them." Once Achan's actions come to light through a gradual process of revelation, he and all that belonged to him were destroyed. This is an intense story where we see the seriousness of the covenant regulations between God and Israel. Today we as the Church live under a new covenant through Christ where such harsh punishment and community responsibility aren't imposed. However we can gain insight into the troubles that can come to us when sin is left unconfessed. The issue is not whether we will sin, but the issue is whether we can learn to deal with it well and move forward. This is only possible through a proper understanding of the forgiveness and healing available to us through Christ. Because He took our punishment upon himself, we can be free from accusation and guilt; if we walk in the light, confessing our sin to God and each other. Questions for Discussion: 1. What feelings do you have in reading of Achan's punishment? 2. Do you see yourself in this story somewhere? Where? 3. What thoughts and feelings rise in you when you are encouraged to confess your sin to another person? To God? 4. Do you have a story to share where you found relief and victory once you had come clean regarding something wrong you had done? 5. Read Isaiah 53:4-6. What feelings or thoughts do you have when you read about Christ taking your punishment on himself? 6. Do you have a person or group of people whom you are committed to confessing to and/or receiving confession from? If not, what steps will you take towards this?
