Hosts: Taylor Morgan and Erin Rider  Results of last night’s special elections – a good barometer of Pres. Trump’s performance?  Special election races in Wisconsin and Florida were supposed to be an early barometer of President Trump's second term -- an indicator as to how the American people are feeling about the direction of the country under Trump. In the end though... it was a mixed bag of results. Republicans won their two congressional races in Florida -- albeit by smaller margins than Trump won in those districts -- and the Democratic-backed candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court won. The Inside Sources hosts go into detail on the results and give their political analysis.    Pres. Trump tells Cabinet members that Elon Musk will soon step away  Is the curtain closing on Elon Musk's time as a close advisor to President Trump? Reports now say that the President has informed members of the Cabinet that Musk will be stepping away within the next few weeks. Politico Magazine reports that the President isn't angry with Musk by any means, but that top political advisors and high-up members of the Trump administration have grown worried about Musk's unpredictability and potential political liability.    Speaker Johnson cancels House votes for the rest of the week  The U.S. House of Representatives will not be voting on any more bills this week. No votes on the SAVE Act. No votes to address judges who rule against Trump. Why? Speaker Mike Johnson says his hands are tied because of a vote to take down a rule that passed with all Democratic and several Republicans support. The fight all comes over a push to allow proxy voting for new parents who are also members of Congress.    Two Utah political parties to join forces  Two of Utah's political parties are joining forces, hoping to make bigger waves against the traditional Democrat and Republican parties. Today, the United Utah Party and Utah Forward Party announced plans to merge operations. Will this make much of a difference in the state’s political scene? Listen to hear what Taylor Morgan and Erin Rider think.    President Trump announces new tariffs for ‘Liberation Day’  In a nearly hour-long speech at the White House, President Donald Trump announced new tariffs against many of the United States’ trading partners. Each country will see a 10% blanket tariff plus specific tariffs by country and industry. Inside Sources takes the speech in full and then spends a few moments discussing it.

Hosts: Adam Gardiner and Andy Cupp  Candidates take to the debate stage for Utah’s 1st Congressional District  Three candidates vying to represent Utah’s 1st Congressional District took to the debate stage, trying to win over voters. Incumbent candidate Rep. Blake Moore (R), Bill Campbell (D), and Daniel Cottam (L) discussed topics on budget, government spending, immigration, housing, and more. We begin KSL at Night recapping their one-hour debate.  Senator Mitt Romney gives 5 warnings for the future of the U.S.  Outgoing U.S. Senator Mitt Romney says he’s optimistic about the future of America. At the same time, he’s nervous about several situations that could spell utter disaster. We discuss a few of the warnings he gave in two speeches yesterday. We also share why Senator Romney says that despite all of the issues facing the United States, he’s still hopeful about the country’s future.    Immigration policy: Does it have to be an ‘us’ versus ‘them’ situation?  Recently, an Idaho state senator made the news for telling a Native American woman to “go back to where [she] came from” during a local ‘Meet the Candidate’ event. This kind of vitriol towards people we perceive as outsiders and foreigners isn’t a new thing; it’s been something that’s been with us as a country since the beginning. Why is this?    Bill to be introduced banning large companies from buying homes in Utah  Utah State Representative Tyler Clancy is working on a bill that would prohibit large multinational companies from buying and owning single-family homes here in the state. The hope is that it would free up inventory for younger adults looking to purchase their first house. We discuss the details of this proposal and the state of Utah’s housing market.  Meet the candidate: Michelle Quist for Attorney General  Elections tend to focus on the major two parties: Republican and Democrat. But there are several third parties also involved. Today, we speak with one of those third-party candidates, Michelle Quist, United Utah Party candidate for Attorney General. Quist explains the basis of her campaign and why she believes she’s the one who will restore trust and transparency to that office.  Meet the candidate: Glenn Wright for Congress (UT-3)  With experience as a former Summit County Councilman and member of the Utah Association of Counties board, Democratic candidate for Utah’s 3rd Congressional District Glenn Wright says he’s ready to take his ideas to Congress. He joins KSL at Night to outline some of his policy positions. He also explains why voters should choose him to fill Utah’s only open congressional seat.  Senator Mike Lee outlines proposal for future Senate leadership  As the United States Senate looks to elect new leadership, Utah Senator Mike Lee says it’s a pivotal time to make lasting reforms to existing processes. In a series of posts on social media, he outlined several proposals that he says would “make the Senate work for the people again.” We spend a few minutes going through each of his points and share our thoughts.  *Re-rack: How to keep strong political feelings from dividing your family

Swallow left office in the midst of criminal proceedings that ultimately wound up being dismissed in court. Jim Bennett, one of this week's guest hosts, says he thinks the state made the right call to settle. Both the Utah Republican and Democratic parties will elect new leaders in the coming weeks, which many voters and elected officials hope will usher in new chapters for the state’s primary political organizations after years of infighting, debts and dysfunction. But the growing participation of unaffiliated voters, pressure from smaller parties, and changes to state law democratizing the candidate nomination process have raised questions about the shifting relevancy and roles of political parties in modern elections. On this episode of the Voices of Reason podcast, Amy Donaldson and Jasen Lee speak with Eric Eliason, who is running for Congress in Utah's 1st District in the United Utah Party. He said never thought he would ever run for political office, because he didn’t feel like he fell into any of the traditional political party categories. But that changed when he felt an allegiance to the principles of the upstart United Utah Party's message of ending extreme partisanship and focusing on practical solutions based on common sense and common ground. Eliason said his number one policy priority is government reform.
