When Tim Wessman started working at Tower, it was never previously on his radar. Tim was immediately impressed by the level of devotion his co-workers had for music. He felt an immediate fit when he started working for Tower. With no portfolio he interviewed for the Artist position at the Berkley Video store and he was hired by Sue Peterson on the strength of his interview. At the end of 1990, Tim took a weekend trip to NYC and loved it so much that two months later he transferred to the NYC Village store #125. Working with a slew of artists at the Tower Art Loft at 4th & Lafayette, Tim was pulled aside by the Art Director and told to slow down as he was making the other artists look bad. Tim tells us about eventually taking over the role of Art Director and the highs and lows of working art and displays at the number one store in the US. Dealing with foam core full of bullet holes, artists who showed up to work to nap, the infamous Green Day in store where the Village store was torn to shreds, in stores with Lenny Kravitz, The Ramones, The Go Go's and Kate Bush's rare in store signing and being let down by the Prince in store and a whole lot more. The day after a Eurythmics Madison Square Garden reunion show, Tim flew back to the West Coast and started working at the Tower store in the Castro District, which was a completely different experience than what he had become used to. Tim finished his career with Tower as the Singles buyer.

In this part 2 of 2 episodes, Deacon Eric and Dr. Brett are joined by Glenmary Home Missioners vice president Fr. Aaron Wessman, author of the book "The Church's Mission in a Polarized World." We'll discuss the modern struggle with polarization within the Church and wider society and look at how best to respond from a Catholic perspective. Show Snippet: "The son of God is sent and crosses over and he unites himself more intimately now with the world, right through the incarnation and it is that movement that is God's movement to come close to us, even in our weakness and our sin in the messiness of the world around us, to unite himself in order to bring about salvation. And it is that movement that is at the heart of any missionary discipleship. It is always a willingness to cross over to the other." You can find Fr. Establish Non-Negotiables*** (1)-Create a "what not to do" list for the Holidays: *1A. letting go of traditions that add stress or overwhelm to the holidays, or ones that simply don't bring the joy filled spirit of Christmas. *1B. Holidays need to look how YOU want them to look - what's on your calendar is your choice - choose wisely how much you fill it & what you fill it with. *1C. You, as the Mom, control what kind of holiday season you and your family have - for the good or the bad... again focus on what brings joy to your family. (2)-Create a Holiday Live List as a Family: *2A. Live List is similar to a bucket list - but is more intentional and helps your family truly LIVE and THRIVE during the holidays. *2B. Sit down as a couple or as a family and do a mind sweep of all the traditions that bring you and your family joy during the holidays - narrow the list down to your top favorites. Make sure you let go of the traditions that bring stress, overwhelm and will leave you feeling burnt out. (3)-Calendar your holiday plans right then & there: *3A. Committments - put in your calendar all live list events that have specific dates & times tied to them. (Example - a family party, a work party, a ticket to an event that was purchased for a specific date and time, etc.) *3B. Live List items - only plan to do one thing a day - don't over schedule yourself and your family. Schedule time for things as simple as having a hot cocoa bar and a Christmas movie at home, or something as extravagant as going on a sleigh ride in the snow, from going to see Santa to taking family portraits for Christmas cards...calendar it ALL. Again, remember to not over schedule - keep it simple and you will find it will be filled with more joy. 4-Create an Advent Calendar for the Holidays: 4A. Assign Live List items a specific day from Dec. 1st until Christmas Day. 4B. Add Live List items to advent calendar to hang on wall to use for the 25 days of Christmas. (You can do little bags, boxes, or whatever you'd like) 4C. For fun - you can add a treat and a scripture verse to each day of your advent calendar. Each day the children will get to open one box or bag of the advent calendar and eat the treat, read the scripture verse as a family and do one simple tradition to go along with it for the 25 days of Christmas. This gets the kiddos excited about Christmas in a simple way - even if its as simple as reading a Christmas bedtime story to them that night - it makes it fun and something for them to look forward to because its in your advent calendar. Samsetning: Adelina Antal
When we, as Christians, engage in evangelization that seeks to transform our culture, what metaphor tends to inform our thoughts and actions? Frequently, we land on the metaphor of “war”––we are engaged in a “culture war.” Have we thought, though, about the implications of that metaphor, about what it might do to us and what it might do to “the other” in our eyes? If we do think about that, perhaps we see that this metaphor, which has been widely adopted, might in fact be at odds with a truly Christian vision of ourselves, of others, and of engagement with culture more broadly. Fr. Aaron Wassmen has been developing ideas about the inaptness of the “culture war” metaphor for the evangelizing mission of the Church and for Christian's missionary activity. He spoke on this topic recently at a conference on Transforming Culture hosted by Benedictine College, in Atchison, Kansas. The title of his presentation made his conclusion pretty clear: “It's Time to Bury the Culture War Metaphor.” Fr. Aaron is vicar general and director of formation of the Glenmary Home Missioners. Before serving in leadership in his community, he was pastor of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Windsor, North Carolina.
In this episode Adam enjoys a great conversation with Luke Wessman. He has a fascinating life story; he's a well established tattoo artist that was born on a hippie commune in rural Tennessee. We talk about many various topics from meditation, wild conspiracy theories, Kanye, “have to's & get to's, relationships, how to improve our romantic relationships, what it was like to work and appear on the show Miami Ink, as well as his intriguing road to becoming a high degree Freemason. Lukes discusses his childhood experiences that are anything but normal— he came into the world the natural way (..in a tent) on a fully sustainable hippie commune with no running water or electricity, then moving and living a nomadic life up and down the coast of California. He discusses how he had a moment of embarrassment with his childhood background while eventually deciding to embrace his story which led him to learning the value of hard work. His values and life experiences eventually moved him to start the community and brand called The Lost Art of the Gentleman; “Treat them like you don't have them forever,” is how Luke would advise men on the treatment of, not just romantic partners, but people in our lives that matter most to us.. Finally, Luke talks about his career as a tattoo artist, doing it for the love of the craft, the secret to being able to work with high-profile clients, working with people without a hidden agenda and just being a genuine person. We believe we can all learn something positive from Luke and this podcast proves it.
