RJJ Software's Software Development Service This episode of The Modern .NET Show is supported, in part, by RJJ Software's Podcasting Services, whether your company is looking to elevate its UK operations or reshape its US strategy, we can provide tailored solutions that exceed expectations. Show Notes "So we're dealing with code bases that are getting bigger and bigger every day. You know, those million line code bases, two million line code bases is not unusual. We are being pushed to do more. I remember when I was working at Microsoft a couple of years ago, Satya Nadella, CEO, his favourite phrase was, "you have to do more with less." But yeah, so Satya was big on this idea of do more with less. And this has kind of resonated across the industry as a whole."— Jim Bennett Welcome friends to The Modern .NET Show; the premier .NET podcast, focusing entirely on the knowledge, tools, and frameworks that all .NET developers should have in their toolbox. We are the go-to podcast for .NET developers worldwide, and I am not your host: Jamie. I'm Delilah and I will be recording the intro for this episode because Jamie is suffering with a throat infection. In this episode, Jim Bennett returns to the show after a six-year absence. In his previous appearance, Jim introduced us to Xamarin, but in the time since that appearance, Xamarin has been sunsetted. So it felt natural to start our conversation about the wonderful outpouring of support over on X with the hashtag #XamarinGaveMe. The main topic of conversation is about Generative AI, Large Language Models, and how the new startup, Pieces, can help developers to keep the context of what they are working on at the front of their mind at all times; both when they are online and off. "If I said to you, "which character from the Pixar movie Up are you?" The answer is going to be, "Doug," we're all Doug. We're all like, "squirrel!" So if we have to go from our IDE to a browser to ask a question, we're reading email on the way. We are looking at chat tools on the way. Oh, we're in a browser. "Oh, I've got a notification on Blue Sky. I'm going to have a look at that." We are context switching. We are distracted. We are drinking coffee. We are losing our productivity"— Jim Bennett Anyway, without further ado, let's sit back, open up a terminal, type in `dotnet new podcast` and we'll dive into the core of Modern .NET. My voice was created using Generative AI. Coding is like spinning plates, and before you even start you've gotta be spinning seven of them. Today's guest is Jim Bennett, the Developer Advocate at Pieces For Developers, where they're trying to make that plate spinning act run just a little smoother. Pieces For Developers works as a long term memory for your workstream as a developer, feeding across everything you do, allowing you to maintain flow and easily pick up where you left off after being away from your desk. If as a developer, you've ever struggled with the autocomplete style of LLMs that doesn't seem to work in a dense context, then Jim's work may interest you. Jim's key piece of advice to DevRel's out there? Constantly evaluate and report. Don't get caught out by mismatched expectations. Know who you're reporting to and what they want. You may be doing a hundred things at once but your North star must be the thing that centers you. For Jim, it's daily active users, but for you it could be something completely different. My guest this week is Mr. Jim Bennett, Grassroots Director and Corporate Secretary for Americans for Fair Taxation. We discuss the concept of the Fair Tax as it is proposed by their organization in the USA and as it might be applied in Canada under CHP Canada's policy proposal. The Fair Tax is a consumption tax that would completely replace the federal income tax, allowing citizens to control the amount of taxes they pay by prudent purchasing decisions. The Fair Tax eliminates all federal income taxes and allows hard-working citizens to keep what they earn and would give them more money to save, spend and invest. Welcome to the weekly MormonNewsRoundup where Al & Dives ruminate on the great and spacious Beehive!
Welcome brothers and sisters to Mormon Movie Reviews: Where LDS movie lovers belong! My name is Dives EP 65 - The Home Teachers (2004) Running time: 80 minutes Genre: A religious comedy Rated: PG Synopsis "The Home Teachers" is a delightful 2004 Mormon comedy film directed by Kurt Hale. The story revolves around two mismatched home teachers, Greg and Nelson, who are assigned to visit and support a struggling family in their congregation. Greg, played by Michael Birkeland, is a well-meaning but somewhat clumsy and disorganized individual, while Nelson, portrayed by Jeff Birk, is a meticulous and by-the-book perfectionist. Despite their differences, the two are paired together as home teaching companions and tasked with the responsibility of uplifting and assisting the Callister family. The Callisters, consisting of the father Jared, played by Kirby Heyborne, and his two daughters, Sarah and Rachel, are facing a variety of challenges in their lives. Jared, a single father, is struggling to balance his job and parental responsibilities, while his daughters are dealing with typical teenage issues such as school, relationships, and self-esteem. As Greg and Nelson attempt to fulfill their home teaching duties, they find themselves in a series of hilarious and awkward situations, often due to Greg's clumsiness and Nelson's rigid adherence to protocol. Despite their best efforts, their visits to the Callister household seem to only exacerbate the family's problems rather than solve them. However, as they continue to interact with the Callisters, Greg and Nelson begin to realize that their presence and friendship are making a positive impact on the family. Through their genuine concern and willingness to listen, they are able to provide much-needed support and encouragement to Jared and his daughters. "The Home Teachers" is a heartwarming and humorous film that highlights the importance of community, friendship, and compassion. It emphasizes the idea that sometimes, the greatest help we can offer to others is simply being there for them and showing them that they are not alone in their struggles. With its endearing characters, witty humor, and heartfelt message, "The Home Teachers" is a charming cinematic experience that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds, regardless of their religious affiliation. It reminds us that even in the midst of life's challenges, laughter and friendship can be powerful sources of strength and comfort. Conclusion The RM is hilarious, and the singles ward is funny, but the apple fell far from the tree when it comes to the home teachers. I recently spoke with Jim Bennett who plays a small role in the movie, and even he acknowledges that it is a bad film. Can faithful members and post Mormons find common ground? On this fascinating episode of Mormonish, cohosts Rebecca and Landon sit down with former bishop and stake presidency member, Ian Wilks and faithful apologist, Jim Bennett, to discuss their unlikely collaboration and new podcast “Inside Out.” Ian grew up in a coal mining town in Wales and his story of living on the streets and finding the church is just incredible, as is his eventual journey out of the faith. You really have to hear the story to believe it! Jim was raised in the church and is a practicing member today, including singing in the Tabernacle Choir. Jim and Ian met on their mission to Scotland and formed a strong bond that continues today. Their new podcast looks at the church from the point of view of someone on the “inside” and someone on the “outside.” They both care deeply about the important issues facing members and post Mormons today, and are committed to finding common ground across difference divides.Inside Out Podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/673495We appreciate our Mormonish viewers and listeners so much! On November 17, 1990, Doug Estes and Jim Bennett, who were separately out hunting, were found together, shot and killed at the Fulton State Game Area in Kalamazoo, MI. 38-year-old Jeff Titus had a farm near the scene and found one of the hunter's missing weapons. Because of this, Jeff soon came under suspicion. However, Jeff had a solid alibi and was immediately cleared as a suspect – the case went cold for ten years. In 2000, Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office Cold Case Unit reopened the case and focused on Jeff. By trial, Jeff's alibi witnesses were unable to testify on his behalf, and the prosecution's circumstantial evidence was enough to persuade the jury. Despite significant evidence of another, more viable suspect, Jeff was convicted and sentenced to two concurrent life without parole sentences. Susan Simpson talks to Jeff Titus and Dave Moran, Jeff's attorney. Phrases like "Never let that technician talk to the customer" are more common than we think in the automotive industry. Still, there are simpler, more efficient, and profitable ways of dealing with the issue without locking a technician in a basement whenever a customer needs guidance or advice. In today's episode, I'm joined by Jim Bennett, Owner and Operator of CarMasters Automotive since 1998, President of the Hampton Roads NAPA Business Development Group, Board Member of the Virginia Automotive Association, and Director of Technical Training and Development at ATI. Jim's endless list of certifications is a testament to his passion for learning and developing creative solutions for the automotive industry. Throughout our conversation, we discuss the difficulties many auto repair shops face in hiring new talent, especially technicians. Jim highlights the importance of exposing managers, team leaders, and A techs to leadership training to make our lives easier as CEOs and improve our business workflow and growth. In addition, Jim explains how to elevate our leadership team by thinking of their leadership training in the long term, how to reverse the automotive industry's reluctance to leadership training, and more. In This Episode, You Will Learn:Why does the automotive industry struggle to find technicians (3:38)Jim talks about the importance of exposing our leadership team to leadership training (8:01)The massive opportunity for technology lovers to contribute to making cars safer and more reliable (13:23)How a 5 years plan can help you elevate your team (19:11)The differences between being OSHA-certified and OSHA-training (25:38)Connect with Jim:LinkedInEmail: jim@autotraining.netLet's connect:WebsiteLinkedInFacebookEmail: info@maximumoctane.com Hosted on Acast. Interview released 6-18-22On the final episode of the Under The Banner Of Heaven Aftershow co-hosts Rebecca Bibliotheca and Steven Pynakker are excited to have on Hanna Seariac! This is the second time we taped this episode and Hanna explains why she asked for the first one to be pulled. Hanna also discusses her recent article she wrote about Brenda Lafferty for the Deseret News and talks about why she felt it was important that her story be told. We then talk about the final episode of the FX/Hulu limited series titled "Blood Atonement". Hanna gives us her take on the episode as well as the series overall. We discuss the way that the Mountain Meadows Massacre was portrayed as well as Brigham Young and the martydom of Joseph Smith. Hanna also defends Lindsay Hansen Park and Dustin Lance Black against the accusation that they are Anti-Mormon. She also addreses the criticism that "she aligns with those who attack the (LDS) faith". I also want to thank Jim Bennett, Benjamin Shaffer, and Lindsay Hansen Park for coming on Mormon Book Reviews to discuss the series. Stay tuned for an Aftershow of the Netflix series "Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey". Coming soon! #underthebannerofheaven #andrewgarfield #bloodatonement #lindsayhansenpark #lds #mormon #polygamy #mormonfundamentalism #evangelical #brendalafferty

Logic and common sense tell you that if you are cooperative and try to do the right thing in your dealings with a government authority, that authority should work with you in the same spirit. Unfortunately, the IRS didn't get the memo. This week, the FAIRtax Guys look at a story first told by Jim Bennett in his weekly “Grassroots Corner” article. It's the story of Alexandru Bittner, an American citizen who ran afoul of the American tax code while living in Romania. The treatment he received at the hands of the IRS is nothing short of appalling. It's just one more reason why the FAIRtax should replace the income tax and relegate the IRS to permanent extinction.
On the latest Under the Banner of Heaven Aftershow we are excited to have on Lindsay Hansen Park! She worked as a consultant for the Under the Banner of Heaven series and she is the Executive Director of Sunstone. On a very special "behind the scenes" episode Lindsay details how she got involved in the project, the role she played in the temple scene, and interacting with Andrew Garfield along with the cast and crew! Lindsay then shares with Rebecca Bibliotheca and Steven Pynakker her overall thoughts about the series. She acknowledges and understands some of the criticisms directed toward the program, but she also shares some "off the record" information that shows how much UTBoH got right. We then discuss "Revelation", the 6th episode of the series. This is probably the best episode so far and it was a real delight to get Lindsay's take. To cap off our program Lindsay gives a sneak peek of this year's Sunstone Summer Symposium "Many Mansions". Steven is then officially appointed to be the umpire for the annual kick ball tournament between the Ex-Mo's and the Fundamentalists! This has been a really enjoyable time having these converstions about the show. Next week I'll be at the Mormon History Association Conference so there may be a slight delay in taping for the finale. I am thinking of having on all of my previous aftershow guests (Jim Bennett, Benjamin Shaffer, Linsay as well as Thomas Murphy) back on for a special panel discussion. On the latest Under the Banner of Heaven Aftershow, here on Mormon Book Reviews, we are excited to have on Jim Bennett! Jim doesn't pull any punches as he breaks down the series so far. After reading one of his reviews of an episode, I thought it would be great to have Jim on to give his perspective. Was this limited series a missed opportunity? Jim seems to think so. I also want to thank Rebecca Bibliotheca for coming back on at the last moment. She is officially the permanent co-host of the Aftershow!PayPalPatreonChannel Merch Store
