True House Stories Podcast with special guests by Lenny Fontana
TRUE HOUSE STORIES® W/ SAM DIVINE # 104 Sam Divine is a DJ that knows exactly what to play and when to play it. The hours she spent rifling through vinyl in the warehouse of Chemical Records, where Sam once worked as a house buyer, gives her an insurmountable understanding of the genre. Having played nearly every club in Ibiza – including residencies at Ushuaia, Amnesia and Sankeys – and landed at top-end festivals, there are few who can offer a house music education like Sam Divine. Last year, she racked up over a hundred gigs and is well on track to exceed that in 2017, having already hit up the likes of Europe, North America and Asia. And her reputation for energising a dancefloor has been acknowledged by her inclusion in Pete Tong's Selector Series for Radio 1. A late starter, Sam took up DJing at 21 – learning to mix in her mum's garden shed. Her breakthrough came soon after with a DJ competition and landed her first residency at a club in Weston-super-Mare, where she was also the main booker, while also working in record stores. In 2005, after swapping Bristol for Ibiza, Sam became a vital component of San Antonio's west end (where this year she makes a triumphant return as a resident for Defected at Eden) and has spent every season on the White Isle ever since. During this time, Divine also began working with Defected, who in 2009 signed her to their artist roster. A weekly warm-up at Mambo ensued, opening for legendary names like Kenny Dope and Frankie Knuckles, as well as hosting the weekly Defected Radio show that currently holds the #2 spot on iTunes in the UK Music Podcasts chart. The real turning point, however, came when she played We Are FSTVL in 2013. “I dropped a mix the night before and everyone went mad for it; the tent went from nothing to one-in-one-out within half an hour,” she explains. “After that, the bookings just went nuts.” With her tireless work ethic, this summer, Sam will play Tomorrowland, Eastern Electrics, Defected Croatia, SW4, and Creamfields. This year also marks the 10-year anniversary of La Vita, the annual DJ charity night that she helped to launch and has so far raised £35,000 for Breast Cancer Research. Sam also launched her own label D-Vine Sounds back in 2015, which this year she will showcase with a stage at We Are FSTVL, dates in Ibiza and a boat party at Defected Croatia. Recently, Sam has also begun to flirt with production; her first major release, a remix of garage anthem ‘Flowers' with production partner Curtis Gabriel, hit #1 on both Traxsource and Beatport. Last year's ‘Confessions' was her first release on Defected, while her ‘Sam Divine In The House' compilation featured further productions and went #1 on iTunes' Dance chart. This summer she dropped ‘In Da Nation' EP with Cassimm on DFTD. Sam Divine's work ethic has seen her more than earn her stripes on the scene. A dedicated army of fans now spreads across the globe as her uplifting house sets captivate audiences everywhere she takes to the booth. With an unwavering love of music and tireless dedication to her craft, Sam is living proof you can achieve pretty much anything you set your mind to – and no one can hold her back.
This week on Drumcode Radio we have a mix from Adam Beyer recorded on the Circoloco stage at WE ARE FSTVL.

New episode mixed by Elliot Moriarty to feel the sunset experience and enjoy a taste of emotional and electronic vibes. This set is mixed by one of the most exciting artists to emerge into the realm of Electronic Dance Music. He started listening to and exploring music aged 11 years old, and it was clear from this early age that this was a real passion, which is why he remains more determined and focused than ever, as this passion has grown enormously over the years. Els, as he's also known as, started off DJing at local parties and events, until his late teens, when the mighty Ministry of Sound came calling. It was obvious at this point that he had a natural talent for the craft, and this was noticed immediately. Off the back of this first major gig, he successfully secured several bookings and went on to play at venues including Pacha, Eden, Cable, Lightbox, Egg, and also the now World famous We Are FSTVL. As Elliot's journey progressed, the addition of wanting to make his own music became ever more apparent. He began making edits of tracks he admired, until eventually starting to release his own productions. His debut release on the infamous Seamless Recordings, is a true statement of his sound. The track which is entitled “Elixir”, has been described as “nine minutes of blissful enthusiasm”, and reached number 3 in the labels top 10 most popular releases chart on Beatport; nestling itself nicely amongst the likes of Lee Burridge, Matthew Dekay, Ian Pooley, Joe T Vannelli and Hot Since 82. Fast forward 12 months, and with a string of releases under his belt, Els's success is continuing to grow. His recent 2 track EP being signed to Nick Warren's The Soundgarden label is a real demonstration that his sound and ability warrants him being part of the Electronic Dance Music scene. Having received support from the likes of Nick Warren himself, Hernan Cattaneo, Pete Tong, Anthony Pappa, Lane8 and even David Guetta, he shows no sign of slowing down and is certainly someone you should keep an eye out for! We hope that you'll enjoy it as we did and don't forget to share! https://soundcloud.com/ben-pearce-productions To many, Ben Pearce’s name is synonymous with ‘What I Might Do’, his oddly anthemic deep-house debut that dominated club floors across the world in 2012. Whilst this is an easy correlation to make (the track went platinum in Europe, reached #7 in the UK charts and was the most Shazamed tracked of 2013 in the UK), those who have followed him since the beginning can testify that he is so much more than that. Ben is very much an underground DJ first-and-foremost, aided in no small part by his vast musical knowledge and the ability to play across a wide range of musical genres. His skills behind the decks have not gone un-noticed, as shown by high-profile sets alongside the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Tensnake and Claptone. On the rise, Ben was named DJ Mag's Best Breakthrough Producer in 2013 and in the following year further proved that he's deserving of the coveted award. Becoming increasingly known for his remixing abilities as well as his own original productions, remixing for Le Youth, Kwabs and Tender Games all in 2014. He collaborated with Black Orange Juice ‘Predictable’ for MTA, a soulfully smooth single that equally showcases lyrical flair and production talent, as well as release the underground club infused 'Lego' EP on his own label. The latter end of 2014 saw Ben launch of his new disco inspired project The Sextape Series. Which incorporates a number of free mix tapes, cheeky edits and a sequence of Sextape inspired parties. These specific nights see Ben playing extended funk-infused sets across a range of characterful, intimate venues in the UK. Through 2015, Ben has continued to tour around the globe, starting the year in Australia before embarking on a tour of North America in March. Starting in Miami where Ben played a special Sextape Series set, the tour also took in dates in Montreal, Texas and Mexico City. Having appeared for the brand last year, Ben was given a recurring residency for ANTS at Ushuaia and additionally appeared for We Love… and Magna Carta at Sankeys Ibiza. Not to mention the inaugural Creamfields Festival in Ibiza at Ushuaia. Away from the White Isle, Ben played at the first ever Lost Village Festival as well as Parklife, We Are FSTVL and the Ruis Festival in the Netherlands. Revered for his classic disco sets, the legendary Giorgio Moroder also enlisted Ben to play a special set at the launch party for his new album at Shoreditch House in May - an event that also served as a fundraiser for Bridges for Music. Alongside a hectic touring schedule, Ben has also provided remixes for the likes of IYES and Hayden James on ‘Something About You’ in 2015, as well as standout collaborative record ’Nothing Ever Hurts' with Shadowchild and featuring vocalist Laurel - a track that reinforced Ben’s penchant for blending astute melody with peak-time bass. Ben also successfully runs his own label imprint Purp & Soul which has celebrated its 12th release with regular artist showcases and releases. After a massive couple of years, Ben has shown that he’s not one to rest on his laurels and 2015 is sure to further Ben Pearce’s status as one of the top DJs and producers in the industry.
Here is part 2 of my WE ARE FSTVL podcasts
Sweden’s very own Christian Smith has been soaking up the sounds of house and techno since the late 80s when Sven Vath first took the scene by storm. Since that moment his life has been dedicated to a vision which he has shared with the global techno community. Jet-setting DJ and label boss, Christian has achieved a lot in a career spanning over 20 years, with his imprint Tronic holding a special place in techno circles. Christian set the label up back in 1994 when he was just 21, and ever since then it has been a bastion of quality music. Diverse in it’s output the label has released the likes of Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, Marco Bailey, Hobo and Jay Lumen and has been seen as a leading force in shaping a less purist techno style. It was also notably one of the first labels to embrace sounds from house and techno to create records that DJs from both scenes would play.As a producer we have seen Christian be as diverse as his own label, with releases on a vast array of labels including Drumcode, Ovum, Bedrock and Renaissance. Having recently celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Tronic and off the back or a world album tour, Christian certainly doesn’t seem to be slowing. We caught up with him after his performance for the We Are FSTVL after party here at Egg a couple weeks back. This mix was recorded at the massive We Are FSTVL After Party here at Egg London. How was it?I have the privilege of playing regularly at Egg as its the main venue I play for in London. However this was the first time of this year as my schedule has been crazy busy and I could not manage before. I am very comfortable there and know the crowd so for me it was a lot of fun. It always is . The crowd is very open minded and not pretentious, great energy, you can play longer sets, and the staff is a pleasure to work with. Your imprint Tronic reached an impressive 100 releases last year. What would you say the ethos of the label is and is there anything you look for in particular when signing a record / artist? The ethos of the label is to release open mind underground house and techno. I have never been a purist and I think this is one of the reasons why the label is still doing so well after 20 years. Its easy to always do the same, but its tougher when you play around with different styles. If i like the music I'll sign it.Techno recently has seen a huge surge in popularity. What do you think has contributed to this and do you think the techno crowd has changed? Techno has become 'cool' again in recent years. I think the fact that it has slowed down to the same speed of house has helped it popularity for sure. I'm not a fan of hypes or trends, but can tell you that techno has always had a strong global presence and this will not change for a long time to come. Honest house and techno will always be around! We’re now in festival season, what’s your personal favourite to play at, both past and present? Oh thats a tough one to answer. I personally really enjoy playing at festivals in Japan because the people there go strictly for the music rather than the drugs. So the vibe is immense and the fans are very loyal which is something you don't get in scenes like London that are very hype driven. I also love playing in Argentina. When it comes to festivals in Europe i really enjoyed Exit, in Serbia and of course Awakenings in Holland. Though I heard that We are FSTVL is also wicked. Hopefully next year! :) What’s coming up for both you and the label? New material from the following artists: Ambivalent, Dave Angel, DJ Anna, Wehbba, Harry Romero, and and album by myself. My wife is pregnant and we are getting our second child in October, so I'm diligently working on my next artist album and hope to have this finished before. And finally, who would you love to collaborate with if you got the chance? I would like to do something with Richie Hawtin. He is without a doubt a huge inspiration to me. We have been mates for around 20 years now and this guy is a mad workaholic and genius. Its just a little sad that he become too big and doing too many projects so that he does not devote much time to what got him here in the first place, the music productions. I think if we should work together in the studio we would come up with something cool musically but also peak time floor material. Like techno? Egg Presents Terminal M - Saturday 14th June
