Welcome to a very special Christmas edition of The Alternative Property Management Show, brought to you by The PMC and Renti. As we wrap up an eventful 2024, the boys are back to reflect on the year that was, sharing the highlights, surprises, and lessons from what has been a monumental 12 months in the world of property management. David Faulkner, Will Alexander, and Harrison Vaughan will take a look at the big events that shaped the year, celebrate the moments that made us laugh, and maybe even cringe, as they make their bold predictions for 2025. Will AI finally take over? Will David have another Oasis-related moment? And what's in store for property managers next year? Of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without a little downtime talk. The boys will share their holiday plans—whether it's sun-soaked beaches, BBQs with family, or just a much-needed break from the property management grind. So grab a glass of eggnog, settle in, and join us as we close out the year in style with plenty of laughs, insights, and festive cheer. It's the Christmas Special of The Alternative Property Management Show! Let's get into it!

To celebrate National Property Managers Day, Renti hosted the first-ever live-streamed Alternative Property Management Show, hosted by David Faulkner, Will Alexander and Harrison Vaughan with a special guest from Let's Rent, Shadi Salehpour as they talk about the industry they love and share some of the stranger stories from an industry that continues to deliver.
David Faulkner, Harrison Vaughan and Will Alexander chew the fat on the hot topic of the day. The slowdown of the rental market in New Zealand. For the first time in a long time, supply is outweighing demand and we are seeing properties sitting longer on the rental market. Does this mean that rents are going to drop? We catch up with the boys.
Spinoff staff writer Gabi Lardies recently had a big win at the Voyager Media Awards, for best junior feature writer. Gabi first worked at the Spinoff in 2022 so is categorically a junior writer, but as she confesses, she's secretly 33 years old and has had a colourful work history prior to becoming a journalist. Her recognised work focuses on observational feature writing, stepping into a very specific scene and painting a picture of it for the reader. And this week, Gabi painted a picture of a hunger strike, particularly Will Alexander's, who announced a strike for Palestine on May 18 and called it off after 19 days at the request of Palestinians. Gabi joins Madeleine Chapman on Behind the Story to talk switching careers, the importance of mentoring and what happens when your story is overtaken by events.Stories discussed: An interview with Will Alexander, who was willing to die for the people of Palestine A morning at the death cafe Where did the age of consent come from, and how does it work today?

From innovative property management strategies to the latest trends shaping the market, we'll cover it all. Stay tuned as we delve into the highlights and takeaways that can help elevate your property management game.

Chloe Swarbrick was on with Jack Tame this weekend and Jack didn't hold back when it came to questions around how the party is operating at the moment. As is usual Chloe had most every answer when it came to policy and science, but when it came to people and problems with personnel within the Greens she was a little more shaky. We'll look at it tonight. Housing Minister has called for 'significant savings' for Kainga Ora in a not so hidden messages of more cuts on the way to help pay for their tax cuts and to give money back to landlords. Former Shortland Street actor Will Alexander has begun a hunger strike which he says he may "soon be dead" if the NZ Government doesn't adhere to his demands. Te Papa Cafe, Zephyr and Wellington Mayor Tori Whanau supported the trans community in Wellington over the weekend as Destiny Church and others rolled through with their conference on checking people's genitals in bathrooms. ====================================== Come support the work we're doing by becoming a Patron of #BHN www.patreon.com/BigHairyNews Merch available at www.BHNShop.nz Like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/BigHairyNews Follow us on Twitter. @patbrittenden @Chewie_NZ
Will Alexander and Harrison Vaughan bring up the topic of 'Tech Stacking' whilst David Faulkner, who is starting to show his age, has no idea what 'Tech Stacking' is. Anyway, once the conversation flows, David actually does know a thing or two about it as the boys discuss the importance of 'PropTech', how it should be used to increase productivity and how much is too much.
There is only one topic to talk about this week. There was a sense of disappointment across the Property Management industry last week when Housing Minister Chris Bishop announced that the Residential Property Managers Bill would be scrapped. Join David Faulkner, Harrison Vaughan and Will Alexander as they discuss and debate why the bill was scrapped and what happens from here.
It is a new season and the boys are back ahead of The PMC 2024. In our first episode, Will Alexander steps into the future as he writes a letter to himself to open in 2034. He writes about AI and the impact it will have on Property Management and how we do business. We are also joined by Drake Farmer, the COO of Renti as they kindly get behind us again for another fun-filled year.
